See podcasts are actually the only thing I use Spotify for these days. Seems to be okay (on my phone anyway).

Something like Opus or Audius will take over eventually. Maybe not those ones but the potential to heavily disrupt the music industry is on our doorstep.

I liked CDs. I never got into vinyl. I can see the appeal from a collector point of view, and actually have been tempted to get a couple for the large artwork on gatefold sleeves, but I honestly think the claims of superior sound are bullshit. Yeah, vinyl is superior to a 128kb MP3, but pretty sure blind listen tests have shown vinyl and lossless FLAC indistinguishable for most listeners, especially on most home speaker set ups. Youve got the argument from the wrong angle. Its not a literal sound quality pissing competition its preferring the actual sound itself. Records do sound a bit different, the gear makes them sound different and vinyl is often mastered differently as CDs are quite often mixed for a baseline 'listen on a shit car stereo on the way to work' whereas vinyl is expected to be listened to a bit more critically, so often has a wider sound stage, less clipped and so on. Plus if nothing else, a lot of stuff comes out on vinyl and not on CD now. Thanks for attending my justification for an expensive, pain in the arse hobby TED talk.

Tbh the point about how sound is mastered more dynamically on vinyl is a fair one, but that's not down to the format itself, it's that it's literally mastered differently.

I just pay for my digital music and download it, I'm weird like that. That's what I do, but I'm not good at finding music I like - I just have to get lucky with recommendations from people I know. Also I'm terrible at keeping track at what I have, but that's a whole other problem.

I've never trusted streaming music and I never will. I can never forgive them for the death of CDs. I still listen to CDs. Man, I was so bummed when my current Nissan didn't come with a CD player. What will I do with the collection I've amassed over the decades?

Rip to FLAC and chuck them on a USB stick and hope it works?
Although having said that USB on my GF's car absolutely does my head in. Track display is on the dash instead of the stereo, and you can only skip tracks from the steering wheel controls.

Luckily the car does have CarPlay, so it's not as if I have no choice for music. It's just the sad realization that they're all tea coasters now.

I've been listening to a ton of new music recently and found spotify really convenient. I've never really cared all that much about interfaces, to be honest, I can find what I want easy enough and ignore most of the home page/tailored stuff. I always know what I'm looking for so just search for it
I'd have spent a fortune in the last couple of months if I was buying music. Are you able to preview music first on Band Camp? Obviously it's due to having easy access to streaming, but I'd hate buying something I ended up not liking these days, especially if you can't sell it on after so would be less likely to try stuff I wasn't sure I'd like

See podcasts are actually the only thing I use Spotify for these days. Seems to be okay (on my phone anyway). Things missing are: Skip start/end of podcasts, user deciding how long it skips Proper playlists Granular speed adjustments, although that one has improved Smart speed - skips silence intelligently. I can see why some people might not be too bothered by them so it doesn’t make much difference to them.

In my experience, anyway

What will I do with the collection I've amassed over the decades? I gave away about 400 CD's at the weekend, since kid's came along and my hifi amps packed up about a decade ago I stopped listening to music except for in the car and there's it's only digital.

Spotify is really annoying on so many fronts that aggravate me almost daily (the desktop app and android app are almost completely different, there is no communication between them whatsoever) but they have the biggest catalogue, if you want to listen to an artist the chances of not finding them on there are incredibly slim now. Hence I use it.

I was gonna say Apple's catalog is pretty vast, but you mentioned Android...
I don't really use or like Spotify, but I am surprised to read that the Windows and Android apps don't talk to each other. The few times I've used it on PS4 (mainly when I want to listen to music in Gran Turismo Sport), the one thing I did like was that I could start the app on PS4, then skip and find songs on the iPhone app.

Check out the old BBC Sessions stuff. The Jimi Hendrix Experience recordings are sensational. Recorded for various tv shows but pulled together. It's amazing. And even features Stevie Wonder on drums on 2 tracks.
Ditto for Led Zeppelin - the version of 'Thank You' on their BBC Sessions album is sublime.
I really like Thunder Down Under by Hot Snakes, which was also recorded live in a studio.
Never listened to them live, despite being a tattooed fan of theirs. I'll give it a spin

Playlist with over 1000 songs?... Fuck you, we'll just take the button for managing songs away!
Although having said that they seem to have fixed if since I last checked.

I mostly buy new vinyl now, then download the FLAC codes that come with it. Though I've only really paid for my amp, the record player is my parents one from the 70s I grew up with, with the odd replacement stylus or bit of soldering and some hand me down speakers, which are plenty of loud enough for a 1 bed flat. Not sure I know the difference in sound really. I just like vinyl as an object, its pretty, feels good, the album art looks better and you have a whole ceremony of sitting down and properly putting an album on. I do also listen to CDs still but it's not quite the same sense of occasion.

That's not bad at all. Not heard Hot Snakes before either.
I did actually think that was the tattoo Danno was referring to before you asked him to clarify though.

But I am a fully paid up Speedo Reis fanboy, so I am likely rather biased. I have seen the pirate and cat, but only once. I imagine there aren't loads of Hot Snakes tatts in circulation, tbh.

I'm not a huge punk fan, but when I do enjoy the genre, it's usually post-hardcore groups like Black Flag or Fugazi. I'll make sure to check out more of their stuff.
