I bought Hell Let Loose in the sale. Only played about 5 hours so far but it's pretty great, what I've always wanted Battlefield to be.

Do games end up being the meat grinders that modern BF games often turn into? And what are the shooting mechanics like? The videos I've seen suggest it's a bit more "realistic"

Do games end up being the meat grinders that modern BF games often turn into? And what are the shooting mechanics like? The videos I've seen suggest it's a bit more "realistic" Not that I've experienced so far, possibly because there are no player controlled aircraft. Teamwork is also much more heavily emphasised and required e.g. squad leaders can chat directly with the commander to request support/report enemy movements etc.. Having said that, I've only played 4 or 5 rounds. Shooting and movement mechanics are heavier and slower than BF but still satisfying. There are no hit markers (there is an audible ding when you get a headshot), no kill notifications, no ammo counter or health bar. Still, it's quite accessible if you play with friends and in one game I had a random politely explain to me how to build fortifications as an engineer. It is more authentic than BF, no reflex sights or whacky uniforms, tanks are genuinely powerful, one hit usually kills, snipers are limited to 2 per team out of 50 players (I think). I (gunner) played a game with RedSparrows (driver) & IDG4F (tank commander) last night where we rolled round the map in a Panther causing havoc. It required constant communication but was great fun and very tense.

It's a third person squad based shooter set in the 50's.

It's not actually awful but admittedly I haven't played a great deal of it. It's one of those "waist high walls everywhere" type jobbies but aesthetically it was pretty cool. I think it's biggest crime is that it plays out in quite a generic fashion.

Been wanting to playing the Phoenix Wright games for ages, had no idea they were even on Xbox. Very pleased to discover 1) they are on Xbox and 2) are currently 50% off.

Too bad they didn't port over The Great Ace Attorney as well though. I guess not many people knowing the Phoenix Wright Trilogy was even on Xbox made them assume there was no audience for it on the platform.
I wonder how many GamePass subscribers are checking out Spike Chunsoft's VNs as they're added to the service. I imagine it's much the same audience as the Ace Attorney series.

Combing through that list, there isn't a lot for me this week, but I think I will finally pick up Redout, which I've been meaning to for ages. Having played a bit of Star Wars: Episode I Racer these past few days have given me an appetite for more anti-grav racing games.
Also, if anyone hasn't played Hotshot Racing yet, it is a steal at its current pricing. Just a fun little Sega-like arcade racer by the team that did the last few Sonic racers and the old Xbox Outrun ports.

Toying with The Darkness 2 just for the sake of having it. That's not really a good enough reason though.

I’m easily swayed, but in a recent Reddit AMA, John Romero said he’s put a lot of hours into Breakpoint… so I’m tempted

Toying with The Darkness 2 just for the sake of having it. That's not really a good enough reason though. How is that? I loved the first one, but I skipped the second due to 2K switching developers and game design. Years later, I'm loving that it's closer to the comic book's visual design.

I much preferred the darkness 2 from a gameplay perspective, it's much better to play than the first. The tone and story were better in the first.

Just started a download of Knights of the Old Republic. £4-ish. I never played these back in the day, or any time since.

Is it just me, or is it that on the Optimized for Next Gen sale, nothing's actually on sale?

Yeah it's a disappointing list with only a small handle full of games on offer. Maybe it's a mistake?

You can get an Xbox Series S for £99.99 at Game with Selected Trade In Selected Consoles.
So if you have an older One S it's a decent upgrade.
