Some of the best EU stuff was when it went away from the films. Don’t get me wrong, there was bad stuff still, and the Heir to Empire trilogy was cinematic in its writing. But the stuff that went with the incidental characters, or explored the origins of things was were the gold was to be mined.
Disney got rid of all that, and I was glad. Their reason was to bring Chewbacca from the dead, and that moment had devastated me when I read it. I cried liked a baby when that happened. But I can see why people now get tired of the same old shite.

I loved Mandalorian at first, but they lost me when you had to watch a poor, separate series for it to make any sense. I've not bothered with series 3 so I doubt the film will get a look in either.

Me too.
To be fair, a lot of the original EU stuff was a bit rubbish, or repeating existing plotlines. But there was some good stuff in there (or maybe I was just more at the age where I was into that stuff).
Rogue One was a good example of what they should be doing, although even then it was a bit too closely tied in to ANH. But the idea of taking a bunch of new characters and having them go off and do something a bit different is what worked.
Even Mandalorian S1, despite basically being Boba Fett, worked as it was largely detached from the main skywalker stuff.
Imho they should go for the whole KotOR approach and set things hundreds of years prior. That way they could still throw in the references they love so much, and even have occasional cameos from people like REAL baby yoda, but it'd be largely a blank canvas.
The basics of KotOR would work pretty well as a movie, but they'll never do that because they'll want their own twists and everyone would already know that one.

I think it's the Rogue Squadron film that Pattie Jenkins was directing that got canned, wasn't it?

Feige’s film was also cancelled, Waititi’s is AWOL as is Brian Johnson’s trilogy. They are at the point that there’s no point even thinking about an announced film until they start filming.

So as I understand it, Skeleton Crew will be basically "The Goonies, The Series, In Space" or something to that effect.

Is it the High Republic era movie that's been cancelled? There's a series called The Acolyte coming this year, that's set in the High Republic I think, about 100 years or so before Phantom Menace.

One thing they could use from how the EU worked when we were young. Not give a fuck about canon. Just throw a load of stories out there, people will want sequels to the good ones, the shite ones can be quietly ignored.
Like how Trek used to work as well.

The Ryan Johnson trilogy was the only one I was excited about. I don't think it's ever going to happen though, and he's busy with loads of other stuff. I assumed it was cancelled years ago.
At least it had the potential to be something different and interesting.

Lucasfilm are pretty good with what people can and cannot use with Star Wars fan projects and Wingman is probably ok in that respect.
As a fan film it's fine, it's far too long, the script is not exactly great and obviously the cast aren't professional actors but it's watchable and the CGI and effects are very well done. The hardiness of some of the ships involved is pretty over the top though, especially one particular fighter.

At least it had the potential to be something different and interesting. Around the time Glass Onion came out both Johnson and Kennedy said, separately, that the intention was still for him to make them, but he was very busy at the moment with his Benoir Blanc-iverse. So who knows? I'm 50/50 on us ever seeing them, but I don't think they've been definitely cancelled the way others have been.

Ah, those glorious days of the late 90s, when Star Wars legitimately felt like the greatest thing ever. All excitement over everything: the Special Editions, the imminent Prequels, and the games were just banger after banger. And it was talked about everywhere; it seemed as if the whole world was into Star Wars and it was cool.
Let the past die, etc.

It wasn’t perfect, but it was entertaining enough. Plus who doesn’t like Whitney men beasts getting their knickers in a twist when Star Wars is too ‘woke’?

I really enjoyed Obi Wan. Certainly not perfect and isn't going to trouble Andor for top spot of TV Star Wars, but I found it very watchable and it was good to see McGregor back in the role.

It was the most 'this should have been a movie' of all the shows. There is a solid phantom edit in there somewhere but he just spends far too much time fucking around with random idiots to pad out the episode count.
But, yes, I'm not sure the world needs to see him beat up Darth Vader *again*

I wouldn't mind seeing him beat up robot-legs Maul though.

I wouldn’t mind something with Maul as long as it’s the right length for the story and covers some of whatever happened in the cartoon. A someone who’s never watched more than a few episodes, there seems to be a lot that needs explaining. An even more casual viewer has no chance.
Obi Wan as a film, or even a mini series that was half the length, would have actually been good.

Obi-Wan had it's moments, but there was a lot of people doing very stupid things (just bloody walk around it, every episode) and it had a lot of padding. I would probably watch it if they made more, but really not something I think is needed
