I think it was a Luke saber they gave to Ben Kenobi as a replacement. I don't think I'll be retiring off it if I ever sell it

At this rate Disney are going to let fans write future projects.

I'm at SWCE 23 in London right now. Just saw Mads Mikkelsen and Phoebe Waller-Bridge live on stage, and a whole bunch of stuff has been announced today.
Three new movies, one at the dawn of the Jedi, one in the New Republic, and another set after Rise of Skywalker with Rey in it.
Also, Ahsoka trailer:

So Rey is going to start...sigh...her own Jedi Academy...just like Luke and no doubt one of those students will turn. They've run out of ideas haven't they?

I don't think anyone is going to make you watch them.

As it's the only animated series I've seen and enjoyed, it's good to see Rebels characters return, and the big dark side dude looks imposing. A far cry from the pantomime Inquisitors in the Obi Wan series.

Just an observation but the character is probably a lot more popular than most middle aged men think. When we went to Star Wars Land she was by *far* the most cosplayed character. She was shifting a ton of merch (with BB8 following behind). I’m not saying that it’s a particularly creative thing to have her back but it does seem like it would be crazy to just throw her away.

I don't actually have an issue with the character it's just the repeating of what came before as you say comes across as very uncreative.

Just wait until the space year 2056 when we get a movie about how she got her arm bandages and hair knots

Glol. Tickets booked. At this point I'm surprised there hasn't been a movie or TV show about Greedo yet at this point.

The characters were never the issue with the new films. What was done with them was the problem. More Rey is perfectly fine.
If the focus of the film will be actually set at this Jedi academy then that will be somewhat different, as Luke's academy was just a fairly brief flashback. How interested I will personally be in a teen Jedi High School film though is another matter

By end of Force Awakens she was an intriguing character who promised a bunch of development and revelations
Buy end of RoS she was just another good character stubbed out. Not even in an ashtray but dropped in a quarter-full warm tin of lager.
Hopefully the new film won’t be like taking a swig out of the Ronnie the next morning

Yeah Rey (and Daisy Ridley) is perfectly fine, just so long as JJ Abrams isn't involved making another film it might be ok. In more important news. That Sith is fucking Titus Pullo, saviour of Rome!!!! Also cool to see the Rebels characters back. But mostly Titus fucking Pullo

It's much more interesting if students have already done stuff, made mistakes etc. You want a grizzled freighter captain that discovers they have force powers, or a Naboo princess, not some five year old that just gets indoctrinated to the cause.

Dunno, there’s quite a lot that could be done around child indoctrination. There’s no way all the parents would want their kids to effectively disown them to get trained in a distant planet by a bunch of old men in robes.

I liked Rey as a character and Daisy Ridley’s performance in general. All the force-link stuff with Adam Driver was a particularly cool strand. It was the plot that let them down.

Those plucky rebels must win at the end of every trilogy, but somehow still be plucky rebels at the start of the next.

Yeah the new trilogy it's the plot that let them down and it became particularly evident after the third one. Force Awakens at the time was a fine romp, good chemistry, fun dialogue, fine it re-heated old Star Wars a bit much but it did actually have some of that sparkle of original Star wars with good characters quipping and such. Within that Rey was good. Last Jedi was actually interesting as they did something new. The weird space ship chase being a bit of a damp squib but the bits with Rey and Luke, or Rey and Kylo, in were actually interesting and new. Then RoS was such a car crash. Just random shit happening, undoing any of the plot of Last Jedi, turning Rey into someone's grandkid etc. It forces your brain to go back and think about the plot of Force Awakens, and it all becomes shit. Like how the fuck did they build a planet sized gun and what planet did they even blow up? How on earth was the New Republic that shit? Doing yet another big undo does seem dumb, but Rey is one of the few good bits (ancestry excepted) and having her start a new Jedi Academy seems interesting at least.

It's pretty easy to undo, especially given the thread in the prequels that the Jedi were out-of-touch relics whose mistakes allowed the emperor to rise. Could just say that the Jedi were wrong for anything after ROTJ, and even in the prequel era, what happens to those who find they have Force powers but the Jedi won't train them?

Put simply, the sequel trilogy made it out that nothing that happens matters because everything reverts to the default state. That's fine for sitcoms and bleak arty dramas about existentialism but not a pew pew pew fantasy about space wizards.

It’s also easy to undo because they constantly show you can actually pick the force up in like a couple of weeks if the plot demands it.

Wait, that has like 3 or 4 main characters who are girls! This will not go down well.
Plus they got in a lady to direct one of the 3 movies, which I've already seen described as woke in a bunch of places. Sigh.
I haven't watched any of Rebels, but at least the characters look interesting and Asokha seemed cool in her Mandalorian Cameo. Oh ok, I just think twin white sabers is cool.
They should do the Jedi Academy plot, but have everyone be good students and stay on the light side and no-one fall to the dark side at all.*

SWCE23:
This was the sweatiest room I have ever been in:
I don't know which of these is the most outrageous things I saw a vendor trying to hawk:
I notice the Star Wars channel hasn't put up the recaps of the Billy Dee Williams interviews from the Con. I'm not surprised though really, it would have been quite uncomfortable viewing and they probably won't upload them out of respect for him.
The man is clearly not well. He has become very, very frail, speaks very slowly, couldn't really hear the questions that were being asked of him, and was wearing a thick overcoat and a scarf in one of the warmest places I've ever known. The general consensus was "This man should be at home resting because he doesn't seem to have much time left."
When he was on stage for the RotJ 40th panel with other cast members, he answered most of Ming Na Wens' questions with a curt "No" and left it at that, until he was asked about his upcoming autobiography, and his answer took ages to come out and he just trailed off toward the end, and there was a long bit of dead silence until Warwick Davis piped up to get further conversation going.
Then in the middle of Davis and Anthony Daniels talking about three minutes later, Billy Dee spoke again, talking over them and carried on with his answer about the book, as if it had taken him those few minutes to marshall his thoughts.
It was no better when he came out on to the Celebration stage later on for his one on one interview with Krystina Arielle. I don't know whether he was trying to be in character as Lando when he spoke to her, or if he was actually trying to flirt with a woman young enough to be his granddaughter, only to have to ask her to repeat herself when she responded because he couldn't hear.
On the other hand, Anthony Daniels and Warwick Davis should have their own show where they do nothing but take the piss out of each other, because it is just pure gold.

Friday was busy, Saturday was absolutely fucking heaving.
I was about 30 feet away from the stage in that crowd at the Celebration stage (never made it into the other two stages, the queues were insane) and it was one of the most claustrophobic experiences of my life.
