George Lucas said he destroyed the masters beyond recovery when he was making the special editions. That’s some horrific cultural vandalism if true. Surely there must be enough cans of film out there to run through the digitron? Posted it a few pages back, but there are 4K scans of original prints available for EP4 and 6 and they are working on Empire. They aren't perfect, but they are very well done and the best way to watch OG SW right now. www.thestarwarstrilogy.com/project-4k77/Obviously 4K scans and restoration from the negatives would be the proper route forward, but George had said they don't exist as they were used for the SE releases - which I agree, is not good. They are ( were) his to do what he wants with, but not to retain versions of the originals, especially to show how good the effects work was for the time, is at best disresepectful.

I’ve never properly watched any of the animated series - apart from Droids and Ewoks - what’s actually worth doing?

I loved The Clone Wars series. The very last four episodes are some of the best Star Wars I've seen imo.

That whole final season of Clone Wars is a masterpiece, you can pretty much do away with the prequels and just watch Clone Wars. It's everything they should of been and more, plus it fills in a lot of gaps tells way more of Anakin's story, not just an angsty teen with girl issues who then murders children and is now Darth Vader because 'reasons'.
Rebels is great too, probably a must watch before the Ashoka series comes out with reason to suspect there may be an Andor tie in to Rebels as well. Plus the various Easter eggs in Rogue one that relate to it.
Bad Batch is good, little surprised they went with it but also surprised how enjoyable it is. Must watch Clone Wars first though.

I see the complaint about the slow space chase a lot. I feel I need to rewatch, as I'm sure there is a reason for it. It certainly isn't something that has bothered me either time (or maybe 3 times) I've watched it. That whole section works well for me and builds into the exploration of heroes and our idolisation of them perfectly. Weird to see you say the Laura Dern Admiral is a moron, when she is proved right by the film and that it is Poe that is in the wrong (which is very much the point). The Luke and Rey is stuff is all excellent and I love the very physical life that Luke now leads (udder drinking and all), rejecting the mystical and faith reliant force. I really like the relationship between Kylo and Rey here too, which ultimately becomes a silly romance when Abrams comes back. Wish I could defend the casino planet section pieces, but they are prequel level crappy (more Episode 1 levels than 2, at least). They do feed into a nice (albeit cheesy) final moment about looking towards the future rather than wollowing in the past, but it serves little narrative purpose. The idea of the First Order and the Resistance getting their weapons from the same place is interesting one that could have gone somewhere, but it is just thrown in and not given the attention it deserves, making it fairly pointless. I basically agree with all of this.

It's not more Andor but at least it's not more Boba Fett.

It's not more Andor but at least it's not more Boba Fett. As long as people don't go in to this third season expecting it to be Andor with Mando + Grogu (Mandgu?) Star Wars can be more than one thing. Hopefully I'll enjoy it for what it is as the other 2 series.

Was fairly sure their story concluded, no?
At what point will he say his first word?

Din Djarin wields the Darksaber so effectively by Mandalorian tradition he's the top dog and Mandalore is rather fucked, plenty of stuff for him to do.

Honestly I'd be more than happy to just have a bounty / adventure of the week with those two.
I really enjoyed how episodic Mandalorian felt, even though it had an ongoing story line, most episodes worked as standalones and that's something I genuinely miss in today's age where everything needs to be super serial.

I dunno, it felt a bit videogamey. Perhaps it just came as a surprise but series 2 was a definite dip after the first.

This might sound heretical but I'm not a huge fan of the little guy. He only really exists to sell merch and do something cutesy every episode.
Edit: Don't get me wrong it's a good series and I did coo over him like everyone else, but I do wonder how they're going to develop him. I doubt they'll cover an awkward teenage phase. Maybe they'll go down the heroic sacrifice route.

The first season was better, to be fair
I do appreciate the episodic nature though. Need more like that.

The second season felt a lot less episodic to me. It also seemed a lot more concerned with trying to appeal to the fanbase by throwing in references/characters from other SWU stuff. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't half as appealing to me as season 1.

Next Star Wars omnibus ordered. I wasn't sure I'd go for this one as I've heard mixed impressions but I have been enjoying these new canon stories so figured I'd give it a chance.

The Bad Batch returned today, obviously not Andor levels of showing how bad the Empire is but something happens that was telegraphed but still a bit unexpected happens.
The group realising they've got to start doing more than just hiding from the Empire and be more active could make things interesting.

Mando season 3 has upped the numbers of on screen Mandalorians just a tad.

The shelves at Star Wars HQ must be groaning under the weight of abandoned projects.

I can never see “shelved” without immediately thinking of “being inserted into the rectum” anymore.

Jenkins’ movie would have made Book of Boba Fett look like The Wire, in terms of quality

Jenkins’ movie would have made Book of Boba Fett look like The Wire, in terms of quality I think you mean Porkins. There is no character called Jenkins. *rolls eyes*
