I'm old enough to remember Bill Wyman and Mandy Smith (13) being a thing. Even as kid I knew it was wrong but the media just went along with it and my parents just called him a dirty old man. It's only when I got older and read a biography on Brian Jones (Golden Stone, great book) I found out he had form for young girls dating back to the 60's.... He's another proper wrong un who now lives a life of luxury in the South of France This is it. The sheer hypocrisy is staggering. The "entertainment industry" is littered with very similar, if not worse examples like this one. That doesn't mean Schofield's not a wrong un of course, just that others should face the same scrutiny. |

if you're banging someone old enough to be your child then you're a dirty old man. Whether the relationship is also an abuse of power, or coercive is a question for those closer to it or for those with a duty of care. But that doesn't change the older party being a dirty old man I wan't nothing to do with, I want nowhere near anyone I care about.
I'm quite sure Al Pacino (83)'s other half (29) knows exactly what she wants and is an adult quite capable of making her own decisions, but Al Pacino remains a dirty old man. The thirty plus years between grandad Schofield and his victim/partner is similarly indicative. And have to say I get real fucking twinges with the twenty something years between Boris Johnson & his other half.
Minus their wealth, power, or status, all these people would be rubbing the thighs of their wank stained corduroys outside the school gates.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but... sometimes women are attracted to older men (and vice versa). So if they're both consenting adults, I don't really see the problem.

I find the kid thing bothersome but more because there's absolutely no way he can be a proper father figure to it.
If Helen Mirren suddenly started shagging a 25 year old, would we judge? Same way GILF of the Year Carol Vorderman has a variety of blokes, some of whom are younger.
Don't conflate two actual consenting adults with a case of grooming.

To be honest, on reflection I don't really think "you disgusting old man", with Pacino it's more "that's just weird and odd". And I'd feel similar should the genders be flipped.

Yeah, it'd be different if there was an abuse of power going on. Or if it was a Woody Allen type situation, where there's a lot more wrongness there than just the age thing.
But generally if two people are in a relationship and are happy, I don't have a problem with that.

Tbh I'm surprised he can get it up and not have any hip issues or have the energy to get him through a night with a 29y/o. I'm only mid-40s and I would struggle. Good on him I suppose. I don't really have any opinion on the age gap beyond that.
On the baby front, I see loads of my friends having babies in their 40s and just wonder how they can do it. I just don't have the energy. Mines 16 and I'm winding down. I couldn't imagine doing it again now, let alone 82.
