I don't care enough to watch the trial so I'm only getting info 2nd hand - not because I'm searching it out, but because it keeps fucking appearing in my news feed.
Maybe the media has a Heard bias, but the social media content that keeps appearing has a Depp bias and usually consists of sensantionalist clickbaity headlines, and often peddles misinformation - for example, there was a widely shared report that Heard used lines from The Talented My Ripley in her opening statement, despite never actually giving an opening statement. Or the number of posts and comments I've seen, even recently, that seem to think Heard will go to jail if she loses. So you'll forgive me if I'm inclined to believe the evil mainstream media slightly more than fucking social media commentators.
Frankly I'd gladly never hear from either of these folks again.

Glol, "justice". The trial is about a portion of a single sentence written in a newspaper op-ed. Nobody is going to jail. The rich will remain rich, most of the people that domestic violence happens to will remain ignored, the people using this shit to push an agenda will remain unashamed, and the clapping, angry masses will remain distracted by tabloid sideshows. This trial hasn't helped anything, it's just ugly and sad. It's more of an overarching point, trials behind closed doors=not good. I hate this shit as much as anyone |

You keep bringing up social media like that's rebutting what I'm saying, but I've never once mentioned social media being more reliable than mainstream media.
You can watch the trial for yourself to see the evidence, or lack thereof. If you don't care to watch it, fine. I'm just saying that the media reporting of it has had a gaslighting quality. And it's really made me question how they represent other things that we take their word for.

There's also an argument that there's been irrevocable damage done to domestic violence cases for years to come because of the public nature of all this.
It certainly brings out a nasty (but entirely unsurprising) misogyny in the comments sections.

It does seem like this has been a redemption tour for mysoginists, incels and sex offenders, giving legitimacy to some awful peoples awful views.
I dunno, I find parasocial stuff a bit weird at the best of times but I have found the general vibe around this trial absolutely repulsive.

I think that's the bigger issue.
Even if Heard is lying etc, I do think the reaction could easily put off others coming forward because they will fear being labelled as the abuser themselves.

It was a pretty awful relationship but Heard has lied, contradicted herself and it looks like she's also edited photos. It's likely that she could face criminal charges for lying under oath.

Yet again there's fuck all nuance in any of it. If you criticise Heard you're labelled a misogynist or an incel, if you criticise Depp you're probably still an incel and a pig fucker.
It's become yet another thing to take a side on and make an enemy out of people for.

If you were falsely accused of assaulting a woman, would your compulsion be to stay quiet about it in case future cases were affected by the outcome? |

If she'd is making false allegations than sure, it lies at her feet ultimately, but that doesn't mean I'm going to approve of the circus surrounding it.
I'd hope there would have been better ways to criticise and call out Heard without hyperbolic social media commentary, some of which fits well beyond what I'd consider legitimate criticism and falls into blind tribalism, created falsehoods, and even occasional misogyny.
I've not seen anything hyperbolic here, but it's easy enough to find elsewhere on the internet.

Caveat: I have only followed this via the thread so don't have all the information.
What seems unfortunate is that even if she did embellish or twist the truth if only some of her testimony is accurate he sounds like an abusive shitbag.
Any trial hinges on credibility but there's a really cruel and mocking approach used to try and make her look stupid.
If the worst accusations are true it's horrific to have it dissected, dismissed or ridiculed by a global audience.

It's not really embellishments or twisting the truth, it's lots and lots of showing the jury pictures of Depp asleep and saying he's an abuser.
"He tortured me for hours, beat my face black and blue, broke my nose several times, and here's a picture of a mirror with some writing on to prove it."

Yeah he doesn't deny getting wasted on drugs and alcohol, sending pretty disgusting texts to friends and the like. He denied some texts that came in right at the end, which was unusual because he's owned up to pretty much every other text he's sent, but there's some question mark around whether someone sent those texts to him as they were labelled as "incoming" on the evidence.
As for any texts that Heard sent? Well she didn't hand over any of those.
