Not sure I’d agree with this. He’s come across as quite funny and charming on the stand. Great rapport with his legal team and he seems very genuine. Always made time for his fans, no one really had a bad word to say for him before Amber Heard (and today Ellen Barkin). His security was with him for 20y which is very rare and I doubt would happen if principal was a whopper. If your boss is pissing through $2 million a month and not really paying attention to how it's being spent because he's either fucked up or kind of mental, I'm fairly sure I'd stick around for the perks. Before the worst of this kicked off, Rolling Stone did an infamous profile which was intended as a puff piece to improve Depp's damaged rep. I won't pretend that I won't be disappointed if Elon Musk turns out to have done sekshewal misconduct. Also if it turns out he's a horrible boss, beyond what you might expect from a driven and ambitious guy who himself said he has a form of autism, I would think less of him I guess, but still support what he's doing with Spacex and Tesla.
Will wait and see what happens.

I dunno, I can only speak from experience. But I know quite my fair share of tech men, and they are still weirdly committed to defending him at every turn. They think it's all a huge joke. Even a tech friend who is nominally left-wing just waves it off when I point out how anti-union he is.
Which is completely anecdotal, but there you go. To me he feels almost like a Trump figure, when people support him even when it makes zero sense to.

This sounds like you're acknowledging that he is a horrible boss but have an extra level of horribleness he has to display before you'll be disappointed by him Exactly. If he has near impossible high standards and cracks the whip often that's not nice, but in the context of a high tech engineering company where he needs to get the best out of his engineers and production line, I can get over that, much like Sensei Kreese beating his students, it's all love. To my knowledge, he's never offered his autism as a defence against anything, he mentioned it during an interview about himself. But if he's blaming failures on the wrong people, if his standards are actually impossible to achieve, and if he's paying a pittance to people who are producing good work and deserve better (and making him millions), I'd find that harder to swallow. And if he's putting his dick in people against their wishes, that's a line in the sand. But we'll see. |
