Stars with a diva complex showing up on-set whenever they feel like it is not uncommon in Hollywood. If they carry enough clout, and their name is above the title, what are you going to do about it?
Normally the only thing that limits such behaviour is if there's a bigger A-lister on the show who reins them in, or the director is a proper old-school Billy Big Bollocks that everyone respects, like Clint, for example.
Clint don't take no shit.
I thought Hardy and Theron had kissed and made up about this now anyway.

I didn't really like Fury Road. Originals were much better, plus Hardy is a sex offender To be honest, I don't like any of them but the first one. That's the only that had an actual coherent story rather than two hours of random action scenes. |

I imagine if he was fucked off with George Miller and Charlize Theron then he was deliberately late to set to prove a point about how unhappy he was.
Bill Murray does similar things. On some films they literally didn't know if he was going to keep turning up on a day-to-day basis, he's very capricious.

Eddie Murphy was also infamous at the height of his egomania regarding turning up whenever the fuck he felt like it and keeping everyone waiting, or fucking off when he'd had enough. It happens to a lot of people when they start inhaling their own farts for too long.

The Vin Diesel/Dwayne Johnson beef stems from Vin showing up whenever he wanted as well. Not to say that excuses Hardy or anything. I just think they both seem wrong in this situation.

I think both Hardy and Theron felt underdirected by Miller, who obviously had had the film already made and cut inside his own head for like 20 years, and knew exactly what he was going to do in post. Coupled with them both being diva-ish and Theron coming from a pretty tough and torrid early life, I don't think she has much time for arsehole-ish behaviour. And Hardy has behaved like an arsehole before, with his banty retinue of L A D Z that he always used to have with him.

Basically, when George Miller went to Hardy to encourage him to come to work on time, Hardy slapped him in the face with his penis. At the time Miller thought it was odd, but it later turned out that Hardy thought this was just an Australian custom for resolving disputes.
Still not a good look though.
