Hot take - license fee, and the BBC as we know it,will be gone by this time next year. We’ll miss it when it’s gone. The ad free CBeebies anyway. Your working out please? successive governments have worked to bring it down. A high payed star, who effectively got a £40k pay rise while never working a day - plus criticism of how its biggest show has been managed … they’re going to get a hate dump of people who both support and hate “woke” refusing to pay the fees. Might be wrong - hence the hot take. Let’s see what happens.

So, the Queen's funeral coverage was hosted by a paedophile? Seems fitting somehow. What's the issue? She's too old for him to be interested.

This isn't really remotely comparable to the saville thing though, or at least shouldn't be.
There's a large section of the written press, plus alt-right people online, who will use anything like this as a stick to attack the BBC with. Hopefully the change in government should insulate them a bit from the attacks though.

Jesus fucking Christ: www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cv2gj77pvwwoChoice quote: It wasn’t the only option, was it you fucking dick head. Maybe you could have straight up fired him. Or maybe you could have encouraged those he abused to come forward and, oh I don’t know, informed the actual police.

They did go to the police didn't they? But no charges were brought about. It's literally in that article you just posted.

I suppose I was more outraged that this was supposedly “the only option” when it clearly wasn’t.

Just checked and the Doctor Who episode featuring Huw Edwards that has been pulled from iplayer is "Fear Her", that shitty olympic episode. Never liked that one, so it's no great loss.

Yeah, neither is she, that's kind of the point. I assume there aren't many opportunities for beach volleyball players but I would have absolutely refused to play with him. He just seems appalling in every conceivable way.

Well he won't be getting visa to go to LA, so he can fuck right off. Complete disregard for the trauma the victim will have to live with and feeling sorry for himself.

Forgive the copy and paste but the wiki details quite interesting. He initially had four years till the dutch adjusted it.
Sentencing and release
In March 2016, Van de Velde pleaded guilty at Aylesbury Crown Court to three counts of child rape, specifically the charge of rape of a child under the age of 13. The judge sentenced Van de Velde to four years' imprisonment and placed him on the UK sex offender registry, where his name remains.[9] During his sentencing remarks, the judge said, "Your hopes of representing your country [as an Olympic athlete] now lie as a shattered dream" and "he has lost a stellar sports career being branded a rapist. Plainly it is a career end for him".[10]
Under a treaty between the Netherlands and UK, Van de Velde was transferred to the Netherlands to serve his sentence. The sentence was adjusted in line with Dutch law, and the charge of rape was substituted for one referring to ontucht ("sexual acts that violate social-ethical norms").[11][12] After serving 13 months of his original four year sentence, he was released from prison.[8] Until 1 July 2024, Dutch law only recognised rape if force was involved.[13]
After his release in 2017, Van de Velde complained about "all the nonsense" reporting on his crime in the media, claiming that the term pedophile did not apply to him.[1] He also said he had not read the reporting he was criticizing.
[14] The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) in Britain condemned his comments at the time, stating that his "lack of remorse and self-pity is breathtaking".[8] He later claimed that he "made that choice in my life when I wasn't ready, I was a teenager still figuring things out. I was sort of lost".[15] He has described it as "the biggest mistake of my life".[16

Their take on this is radically different to us and the way their laws and rehabilitation work are radically different as well. When we were all kids/teenagers the age of consent in Holland was notoriously 12.

They also say that a lot of Europe have consent at the lower end of the scale. Italy kicks things off at 14 apparently. I knew there was a good reason I never leave the house, it's all nazis and pedos out there.

When we were all kids/teenagers the age of consent in Holland was notoriously 12. I believe that in Holland his conviction was not classed as rape, but a lesser form. I read that it was only until recently that Holland used to class rape as an act involving force. So essentially drugging a child and then violating them is A-ok.

For more specific information he is alleged to have sent naked photos of himself to a male staffer without consent, groped other male staff members as well as being verbally abusive to staff. He's now accusing Disney of homophonic discrimination.

Sorry I need to make an amendment.
He allegedly sent many nude photos of himself to SEVERAL young male staff members using superhero poses and claiming that they should use them as inspiration for the show.
