I feel like with hindsight Brand probably wasn't fully aware of why his own jokes worked at the time. To the audience, there was an assumption that he's playing up to and exaggerating the narcissism and ego and vanity for laughs. But it turns out he wasn't. So he ends up getting adulation and encouragement for being utterly delusional but authentically himself, with no actual self awareness or insight. It wouldn't surprise me if part of him is loving what's unfolding at the moment, as he takes on the role of a kind of cult leader rallying against the establishment, centre of attention, surrounded by fawning idiots who believe every word.

It's weird how similar it is to Savile in the 20/20 vision 'of COURSE he was a sex pest, how did we not know this' thing.

I think some people are just calling out why the BBC etc allowed, encouraged, and enabled the behaviour when he was 'in his prime'. They can't use the nobody knew it was the worst kept industry insider secret schtick they normally do, when he literally wrote a book about it at the time, and was very open about his sex addiction, to a point of it becoming part of his (then) popular persona.

It's possible to look at the bigger picture without "supporting a rapist".

In slightly linked news, I listened to Kate Moss on Desert Island Discs a while ago, not really knowing anything about her except what I'd gleaned from the media over the years she was one of those people I expected to be a bit of a twat but actually came across as quite nice.
