www.wired.co.uk/article/sky-glass-tv-reviewI had my reservations of this when I first saw it due to its dimensions. All manufacturers that I know of are trying to develope the thinnest, sleekest panel to melt into your wall etc and then Sky rock up with Sky Bertha. I suppose there are benefits for people who want sky but can't get a dish but surely they could've offered a different STB or Chromestick thing? As it stands this merges 2 devices into one whole yet comes out the other side worse off. I guess since everything is downloaded/streamed then you obviously don't need to record live TV anymore? Is everything available at all times?

I thought this looked quite interesting when it was first launched. I do quite like sky, the TV looks decent and I could be down with just renting a TV for a few years and upgrading and I wouldnt be sad to see the back of the dish.
But, buried in the small print, the first year comes with a 'free' subscription to skip the ads and then £5 a month thereafter. I dont know how many people have used sky go but that small thing wiped out every bit of interest I had in it. Im not having adverts smashed into an on demand service I am paying for. U R tripping.

Yeah, the adverts on sky on demand are ridiculous. Although I have a sky subscription I also get the entertainment pack from Now TV which I share with my parents and I've found that I've started watching box sets on there rather than download them from sky because of the adverts.

Although I do think it's taking the piss that Now TV show adverts on a service you've paid for already, albeit only one at the start. Glass is apparently not that great a telly anyway. www.wired.co.uk/article/sky-glass-tv-review

Doesn't NowTV also insert adverts in the programs now as well unless you pay an extra £5 a month?

I think it's intended to appeal most to the young who barely watch any live TV channels, One of the angles in the promo I saw was likening the price of it to a mobile phone subscription...for £39 a month for the cheapest one you get a TV with Sky Ultimate. I guess that might appeal to some?
Students can't go to Radio Rentals to get a tele for the shared house like I did back in rhe day.

For Sky Go to be one of the priciest streaming services and then to force feed you SO MANY FUCKING ADS is just incredibly Sky of them. Not to mention an absolutely godawful UI and the worst picture quality of all streaming services (don't think anything is in HD?). Feels like they haven't invested in it (beyond content) for at least 5 years.

That still grinds my gears. Still cheap as fuck though, generally manage to cancel and then be offered entertainment or movies for a fiver etc. Even with the boost rip off, it's still cheap. Surely the next step is Nowtv+ for 4k but more expensive.

I hate this thing of deliberately gimping the initial product to create a route for charging for a premium version, the cost of which was already baked into the basic price anyway.
