Wonka
A whimsical delight, almost up there with the Wilder classic, Chalamet could almost be a younger version of him. My only nitpicks are that it was a bit too saccharine and cartoonish at times and Wonka's antics seemed a little overly magical. Even a cinema full of annoying kids shouting out and shining their phones around constantly couldn't spoil it for me.

Fast and Furious 9
Yes they are a guilty pleasure and because X is on Sky Cinema I’m rushing to catch up.
I thought this was miles better than 8 although the daftness is turned up to ridiculousness now, or whatever the stage past that is - incredulity?
They’ve basically turned Dom into Captain America now in terms of abilities and it just consistently defied the laws of physics.
However, a true ‘are you not entertained’ piece. It was just dead exciting and stupid and fun all the way through.
I don’t know who was supposed to playing Dom’s brother though, he seemed to be talking to/fighting a blank space a lot of the time.
Honestly a decent 8.2

Shin Godzilla 8/10
Not as good as Godzilla Minus One and a lot less action and tension but still good and in a different way. Would have been a 9 if there was even a hint of subtlety to the satire.

Wonka A whimsical delight, almost up there with the Wilder classic, Chalamet could almost be a younger version of him. It was the opposite for me, and one of my issues with the movie. This Wonka is a wide-eyed visionary, an all-too-nice guy with none of the sadistic streak of the original. Hard to believe it should be the same character. Maybe age made him grumpier? It's still a fun time, with some good music too. It had a bit too much "overly generic kid movie" written all over it, but I had fun.

Killers of the Flower Moon.
Cold and to the point, just like how the murders take place. Watched in 2 parts to break it up which suited it.
All the cast is as good as you'd expect.

Oh I agree their characters were quite different and there certainly wasn't the edge there. But I thought some of his expressions and mannerisms were very reminiscent. Perhaps the events of this film helped to remove his innocence and develop his sadistic streak. He didn't seem too concerned about whether the bad guys would come down or not at the end

Relic
Enjoyed this. Very much a creeping dread film rather than all out scares. It does really interesting things with lighting and, thank the Lord, is a tight 90 minutes. Reckon it’s best to go in to it fresh so will leave it there.

Chungking Express - 5/5
Strange, ethereal and charming romantic comedy. The surreal visual motifs and repeated musical cues along with the fact it's two similar but different stories playing back to back make it very dreamlike. I don't really know why it's good but I loved it. Faye Wong and Tony Leung are amazing.
Flight - 3/5
An odd film about an alcoholic airline pilot who miraculously lands a crashing plane whilst faded. Denzel Washington is completely convincing, it's a phenomenal performance. The crash scene is probably the most intense ever filmed, I would have loved to see that in the cinema, but the rest is quite by the numbers. It feels strange to have a balls to the wall crash scene be the catalyst for a fairly standard, made for tv type story, but it's compelling because of Washington. Terrible music.
Monte Carlo - 2/5
Selena Gomez goes to Paris and gets mistaken for a cunty socialite. Hilarity and moral dilemmas ensure. Good clean fun.

Ferrari Cars go vroom. Vroom Vroom! ...yeah, this was a good watch. Adam Driver was weird in it. Not really because of anything he did, but because I was never able to get over the "oh, that's just Adam Driver in old person makeup" thing. I have a similar issue with DiCaprio. Penelope Cruz stole the show though, she should get award nominations for it. It's an absolute tour de force of emotion. And the big race at the end was sensational. It was remarkably tense, even though I already knew the what the result would be. That one crash sequence was significantly more brutal that I imagined it would be. Not the best Mann I've seen, but a great return to form all the same. 8.5/10

I just watched Saltburn and really enjoyed it.
No idea what some of you were on about a few weeks ago, I thought the leading guy in it was excellent and the 4:3 ratio thing was OK, though I can't decide if it added to anything or not.

I think everyone got bored of talking about Aliens or Jaws and needed something else to fill five consecutive pages.

Predator, but the Predator is Barry Keoghan in 4:3 whilst everyone else is 16:9.

I didn’t like the movie and I don’t like Barry but I do like that the discourse has been about it and not the DCEU or whatever for the last week or so.
It’s one of those films that isn’t for me but I appreciate the world is a bit better for it being in it and it’s been a reprieve before The Fucking Beekeeper comes out

It is nice to actually have a watercooler conversation about a fucked-up movie that many people have seen. Feels like streaming makes it rarer these days.

Agreed. I’ve been in a lot of irl chats where someone randomly asks if we’ve seen Saltburn.
I say a lot, it’s happened twice.
