Is the NES kid as grateful as that N64 kid was? Did you ever see A Christmas Story? It’s an intentional homage. Just replace a BB Gun with a NES. I did see it, and it’s good wholesome Christmas fun. But can’t for the life of me remember if he actually gets the NES at the end. he did but the one he got from the store on the school trip was run over as he run out of the mall. He had to work for it doing odd jobs during the summer and its the same NES he plays at the start with his daughter

The Whale
I didn't see the first twenty minutes so I can't give it a rating.
I suppose Fraser is good but what a rote tale. Aronofsky is the king of blunt force trauma. Arch-contrived ending. Crap.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was on the other channel. Should've watched that instead.

Funnily enough, I gave up on The Whale at 20 minutes. So between us, we can give it a rating.

He’s definitely not subtle but not everything has to be Tarkovsky. There are other qualities to his films that are artful and sophisticated and his use of ‘blunt force’ is intended and part of his style. I get that it may not be to people’s taste, but that doesn’t make it crap.

Jesus I really must have a problem if that’s considered condescending. I honestly thought I was just chatting. Sorry.

The Creator 6/10 Plenty of style over very little substance. World building is great but let down by the writing I thought.

Home Alone
It's a solid 9/10 until Daniel Stern ad libs the "maybe he committed suicide" line.
10/10 more dark ad libs please

It's Christmas. Everything gets 10.
So far we've watched Scrooged, Christmas Chronicles 1&2, Arthur Christmas, Violent Night, Krampus and The Santa Clause.

That is always on my rotation for Christmas, along with Jim Carrey's Grinch

Pretty soon it'll be possible to just watch various Grinch adaptations for the entire season

Surprisingly little love for Muppets Christmas carol. Which seems to be in 4k on Disney+!!!

Planes, Trains, Automobiles next (yeah, don't care it's thanksgiving) That is always on my rotation for Christmas, along with Jim Carrey's Grinch As Thanksgiving isn't really a thing in the UK, growing up I just conflated Thanksgiving and Christmas films together. Films of both holidays often see people facing adversity travelling back home, in wintery conditions, and have people eating turkey. It probably took me a few years to understand they were different holidays. And whilst I know the difference now, it does mean I still see Thanksgiving films as Christmas films.

Hellraiser III
Another 4K resoration and another cracking job on it. Looked lovely.
As for the film itself... Erm. I actually enjoyed this more than the first two! No, it's not as good - and it's cliched and cheesy and quite awful in parts - but I had a great time watching it. You could argue that it's a massive departure from the first two by making the cenobites more outright antagonists but it does actually make sense within the story. If the overt evil part of Pinhead is now without his humanity due to what took place in the second film, then it's quite fitting that he instead now just revels in destruction.
That's looking too deep though. It's just a silly fun ride, but it held up far better than I thought it would.

Is 3 the one with the cenobite with a CD player mouth?

And the massive camera lens for a face
The idea that Pinhead becomes the bad guy, rather than a tool, makes sense. It's just the execution is shite

Don't forget the cocktail shaker cenobite as well. It's very silly.
But fun.
All three films are so different from each other. The first one is on such another level it's unreal. Yet, and I hesitate to say this, all three actually have something going for them.
The fourth one is up next. I can't remember a bloody thing about it. This is the last 4K restoration and, I believe, the last to get a cinematic release.

Surprisingly little love for Muppets Christmas carol. Which seems to be in 4k on Disney+!!! One of the worst things about Disney+ is that they stopped MCC being on free TV, which was always the highlight of the Christmas season. Bloody Grinches.
Still, we got a free subscription this year so all is not lost.

Troll Hunter Norwegian found footage. I thought I would have liked this more. It was fine, though I was expecting more of a Cloverfield in Scandinavian wilderness vibe. But they very quickly show the ridiculous looking trolls, which I did not expect. A bit boring at times. 5.8/10

This is the last 4K restoration and, I believe, the last to get a cinematic release. It's the one set in the past and is a proper "let's find out about the jockey from Alien". I've not seen it all the way through and I admit to only watching 3 for the first time a few years ago. Starts in the 1700s or so and then ends somewhere around the 22nd century. It's batshit.

Knock at the Cabin 6/10
It’s alright, there’s so little depth that they could have covered it all just as well in 20 minutes.

Unspoken - 3/10
Crap horror film with that guy from that thing, about a woman who starts a babysitting job at a house where people disappeared around 20 years ago and everyone is still inexplicably freaked out about it.
Terrible acting, terrible script, but still strangely watchable. The end is so stupid, particularly when combined with said acting and script.

The Hard 2; The Harder
The best sequel and a good example of a sequel that does a similar thing but not quite the same. About 75% as good as the first.
Better than Ghostbusters 2, not as interesting as Back to the Future 2 but still enjoyable.
7/10

But they very quickly show the ridiculous looking trolls, which I did not expect. A bit boring at times. 5.8/10 I watched this again quite recently (its on ITVX) and I was surprised by how funny it is, a lot more than I remembered. Its a bit long but it is/was one of the better found footage movies that came out during that period.

I really enjoyed Troll Hunter too, I enjoyed the sense of humour.
Mind I also thought Cloverfield was a bit shit, so I guess I just have different preferences.

Yeah I thought the cast were good, and was well acted with some comedy. I think it was just some of the horror part was a bit disappointing. I see the director also did Autopsy of Jane Doe, which I loved.

Violent Night
This was ok I guess. It doesn’t do much wrong (although it’s far too long for something like this) but it also doesn’t do anything unexpected at all, and it didn’t seem to quite know how seriously to take itself.
But yeah. Does the job but it’s not replacing Die Hard.
6/10
