Hubie Halloween (netflix)
A monstrously dumb film. Its like someone tried to make an Elf-style movie but for Halloween, and that someone is Adam Sandler.
Everything about it screams that it should be (and is) rubbish but the gag rate is so high it defies taste, sense and becomes a weirdly fun watch. And because its part of Sandler’s RLM Netflix Scam its got a far bigger cast than it deserves.
Enys Men (film4)
Second time watching this. I still think its brilliant. Mainly because of the production values and texture it has, its like some rediscovered weird lost masterpiece from the early 70s. There is a plot but I think you’re here for the vibe more than anything, 11pm-1am feels like the ideal spot for it to be stumbled upon on TV. Very much the opposite of Hubie Halloween in almost every way.

When did Poltergeist become a baby's-first-horror-movie? Doesn't it have a guy ripping his own face off or something?
It is a long time since I watched it..

It was rated PG on release in the US, so is considered to be one of those 'scary-but-not-too-scary' films that the whole family can enjoy, like Jaws.

We couldn't decided what to watch so went for Ivan Reitman's Evolution.
It was incredibly shit. I must have seen it before and erased it from my memory. Today though, I want to buy some Head and Shoulders.
*3/10
*3 points because I still love watching Dan Ackroyd.

Audition A Japanese drama/romantic comedy about a widower looking for new love. It's my first time watching it in years. I guess I'll spoiler this on the slim chance that someone here hasn't heard of Audition. (if that's you, don't look up anything about it, just watch it, go in as blind as possible) I'd forgotten how long it takes for the movie to really show its hand. More than a third of it is over before you get the sense that anything is seriously wrong, and even after that it doesn't get truly wild until the last 20 minutes or so.
It's just so, so effective. I don't think it would be possible to have a complete genre shift like this in a movie these days, there's too much hype and social media and trailers that give everything away.
Anyway, the tension of the thing remains great. And when it does finally bring out the wire saw, the practical gore effects do not disappoint. KIRI KIRI KIRI 9/10, would happily Audition again

And speaking of things that you should watch going in blind.
The Coffee Table (on Shudder)
A Spanish horror-comedy (very very very dark comedy) about a middle-aged couple with a newborn, who buy a coffee table. Something happens with the table, and the movie is about the repercussions of that.
It is fucking crazy, and that is all I will say. Just go watch it.
9/10

Feels gross rather than scary these days; I think the climax of Raiders is scarier.

The movie is not good but the climax where they have to go up the big alien asshole was cool.

I think I clearly enjoyed the movie more than most even though it is a pretty big rip off of Ghostbusters from one of the creators of Ghostbusters in the first place, it certainly wins on the least subtle product placement in cinema history.

I remember really enjoying it and finding it quite amusing in the cinema. Have never had an urge to watch it again mind you.

So I didn't see Heretic today... But I did see...
Anora - 9/10
It's really good. A worthy Palme d'Or winner. Goes in unexpected directions. Frequently laugh out loud funny. And quite poignant. Maybe loses a mark for being a touch too repetitive, but I think it's deliberate. Also the best use of Greatest Day by Take That ever.

I am terrible person I think laughing is a reasonable response. The situation is so absurdly fucked that you either laugh at it, or spend the whole thing in anxious misery. Laughing is preferable! (I am also a terrible person tbf)
