Suppose you don't understand until you lived over there. Dark, cold and short days in the winter. Everything closes at the weekend. Too expensive to eat out. No real takeaways other than pizza and kebabs. No pubs in the UK sense. Basically everything is bloody expensive.

That makes more sense! Missed the bit about short dark cold days! And France isn't expensive. I maintain that everything is closed when you need it and there are no pubs or takeaways though.

I find that interesting as someone who's lived abroad in for many years, I have the same feelings about England and many people who I've met who have also lived abroad are definitely not fans of their home country. I wonder what that's about? Suppose it is some of the mundane things you don't think about. Like you fancy a last minute Tesco shop on a Sunday, but when I lived over there, it was pretty much all shut apart from petrol station food. Also if you can't be bothered to cook, then a pub lunch does not exist. There are fancy restaurants and that is it. And from a social perspective, they are very insular. You really have to have been brought up in Denmark to have a close circle of friends. My brother lives over there still, and a lot of socialising involves going round each others houses and getting pissed. |

Do you know what, I attended a lecture from a man based in Copenhagen (relocated from Lonbdon) last night as part of a course I'm doing and it got me thinking that it must be nice there. I looked on a map and embarrassingly I don't think I've ever bothered to look that closely before. I genuinely didn't know Denmark was that shape, with the wee island thing, and how Copenhagen was literally on the otherside of a huge bridge from Malmo in Sweden.
Not in the least bit interesting to post but I've typed it now.

I looked on a map and embarrassingly I don't think I've ever bothered to look that closely before. I genuinely didn't know Denmark was that shape, with the wee island thing, and how Copenhagen was literally on the otherside of a huge bridge from Malmo in Sweden. Not in the least bit interesting to post but I've typed it now. Huh. It's only an hour's flight from aberdeen wunty, so you could probably row there in no time!! It is a really nice place to visit. We went and I thought it'd be nice to viisit once and I'd never go back, but may well do some day. Higher taxes mean working infrastructure, who knew?  We also got lucky and got a lovely week in summer when we visited about 10 years ago, not sure I could now when it's probably even more cold & driech than here! |

Talking of rowing, there was a bit of talk about attending a rowing event in Amsterdam next year. It would be great to have an excuse to visit).
As it is a few of us are aiming for Spain next Autumn. Spain doesn't really appeal but it's a start.

£28 including postage from FNAC. What’s the cut scene? The mouse in fluid? Yeah the rat scene is edited to make sure you never see it fully immersed. 5 rats were used, all survived, including the one that had a cardiac arrest that apparently Cameron CPRed and then kept as a pet.
It's weird, the film hasn't been re-examined by the BBFC in decades, they're a lot more flexible these days so it's quite possible they'd just give it an okay, it would just need Fox to bother to resubmit it.

If Movie Pitches doesn't summarise this as 12 Angry Men meets No Way Out then I don't know what.
It's not as good as either of those two though, the jury members are cliched, the lead prosecutor is a lazy politician with a heart of gold.
Yeah, it's more of a 5.

This is such a rambly thread. I watched the substance last night which I enjoyed but thought the ending let it down. Now I’d like to go and see what everyone else thought of it but you cannot easily find the reviews amongst everything else in here.
Now I’m out of work I should really write a parser to extract and sort all the reviews out, but my python skills aren’t that great really.
