That's correct - I'd read that and double checked it after watching. The studio really didn't want that ending and in fact there was some unbelievably dumb thing about Paltrow being in the shower when the killer breaks in, but Pitt arrives in time to rescue her. Or something awful like that. Still, the way he delivers his line(s) in the real final scene is pretty awful. That would've been way better. Just as Spacey is about to pull back the shower curtain, Pitt unloads 6 rounds into Spacey's body, walks up to him and as Spacey looks up with bloody, powerless expression, he simply says "Here's your Wrath", and fires the final SE7ENTH bullet into his forehead. Screen goes black. Roll credits with NIN blasting out.

Playing "Wake Up" by Rage Against the Machine to finish The Matrix is probably one of the greatest choices of licensed music in film.

[edit] spoiler for the end of the mummy returns, but it's in the name of a bad joke so it's ok.

Rock is Dead is straight after Wake Up during the end credits, so you’re not far off.

When will AI be good enough to give us the Will Smith version of the Matrix?

When will AI be good enough to give us the Will Smith version of the Matrix? Don't bother asking ChatGPT, it's a bit useless.

(Verse 1) Welcome to the Matrix, where the code runs wild, A digital frontier where minds get styled. I'm Neo, the one, bending rules, going hard, Dodging bullets in this virtual yard.
In the land of machines, I'm the chosen son, Fighting Agent Smith, yeah, we're on the run. Red pill, blue pill, choose your fate, But in this game of life, there's no debate.
(Chorus) We're living in the Matrix, where reality bends, Break free from the system, where the story never ends. With willpower and courage, we'll conquer the fight, In the world of the Matrix, we own the night.
(Verse 2) The Oracle speaks truths, guiding our quest, In this cybernetic world, we'll ace the test. Morpheus leading rebels, breaking free from chains, In this digital battleground, we'll leave our stains.
Smith and his agents, they can't hold us down, We're breaking through barriers, wearing our crown. From Zion to the Matrix, we'll never cease, Defying all odds, bringing peace.
(Chorus) We're living in the Matrix, where reality bends, Break free from the system, where the story never ends. With willpower and courage, we'll conquer the fight, In the world of the Matrix, we own the night.
(Bridge) Enter the Matrix, where dreams collide, With every step forward, we're taking back our pride. In this virtual symphony, we'll rewrite the score, With the power of freedom, we'll settle the score.
(Outro) So let's raise our voices, let the world hear, In the heart of the Matrix, we have no fear. With Will Smith's style, we'll break through the mesh, Living in the Matrix, we're the ultimate fresh!

Goes a bit wonky at the outro where there's a gap for no apparent reason (you can't snip bits out at the moment), gave me something to tinker with while watching the football. You can't use a known artist or band in the prompt, although people have found ways around that apparently. www.udio.com/songs/uDnTiVr35LqVge1samVVas

Monkey Man 7/10 Geez 2 hours 45 min long. Indian John Wick checks out. A few too many flashbacks but nice action and story. Could have done with losing at least 45 mins of its running time though.

Spy Family: Code White (Cinema)
Feature length special of the decent anime series but not as good. As with most anime films it doesn't really add anything to the overall continuity and is fairly inessential. The overall story is alright but it feels stretched pretty thin at times and some characters are clearly there just so they can say everyone was in it.

Gruf - I'm guessing that one totally whooshed me. It's 2 hours long and didn't feel like it needed any trimming to me.

Ah, so it is, felt longer, It lost the 45 mins then Still enjoyed though. It was getting near my bed time so I was clock watching, might explain the (more than usual) grumpiness.

Josie and the Pussycats (DVD) - 3.5/5
Enjoyed this a lot. Similar vibe to Wayne's World and Austin Powers. Extremely 90s/00s MTV Gen X juvenile jaded fun satire. Dreamcast product placement. Parker Posey and Alan Cumming have a blast and the Pussycats are brilliant. Not to be all creepy but young Rosario Dawson is mind bogglingly fine.

Reality
A once and dunnit but engaging film about the FBI questioning Reality Winner whom is suspected of taking a classified document from her place of work. It’s quite interesting in that the whole film is transcribed from a real 90 minute interview in her house and you get a real sense of how the FBI work, not just from a procedural view but how they work over people with their questioning, even when presenting themselves as affable. Only 80 odd minutes long too which makes it a curious but decent watch.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning (Paramount+). Took a bit too long to get going, and the plot was simultaneously overly complicated and simple.
Carried through by some fun action scenes and the usual quality of performances I've come to expect from these films, but the formula is becoming a little worn out at this point.

Late night with the devil - 7/10
It’s 10/10 until the last act, then just shits the bed. Just didn’t work for me and was neither open ended enough or tied up properly. Shame as it was brilliant up until that point.
