I was one of the few people who also liked Miami vice. I just like Michael mann’s style.
Also pulp fiction is now 30 years old. Ouch.

I'm currently rewatching Miami Vice, because why not.
So far it's absolutely fucking incomprehensible. Looks nice, though.

I watched it on Binge. Do you guys have Binge? No Binge here, from the website it looks pretty good value for less than £10 a month.

Civil War.
My review is likely tempered by the fact I wanted to see Dune 2. But due to a technical issue had to opt for this.
I can't fault the production and it has moments of real tension which benefit from the cinema sound system giving certain moments real oomph.
I just didn't didn't find it a particularly enjoyable or satisfying experience and it's not one I'd bother to watch again.

Rebel Moon Part 2 - The Scargiver (the first 48 minutes at home on a TV)
It's more of the same shite, if you thought the first film was set up to something big happening in this film well there's even more set up and it's so boring I was struggling not to fall asleep and it's quite possible I did drift off while the "heroes" drone on about how they got into this situation with the Empire. When it got to the bloke who was doing shite with a griffin in the first movie and he's walking with his mum with a big griffin behind him I thought I'd stop for the evening. For a movie that's "only" two hours long it feels so much longer.
edit: oh and the best bit so far is the utter gibberish Knight of the Realm Sir Anthony Hopkins spouts at the start to catch everyone up, Star Wars uses the text crawl, the hack that wrote and directed this garbage got one of the most respected actors in the business to sound like he's reading random entries from the phone book, badly.
And I went back to it, fortunately the scene of people explaining their backstories didn't go on for too much longer but it still dragged, including a pretty weird suicide of one of the character's mothers for reasons that I don't understand in any way. Which I can add to the list of things about Zack Snyder that I don't understand like : how does he get funding? Who told him he could write? Who let him DP movies, at least this one isn't as badly fucked up by lens choice as Army of the Dead was but I'd trust Roger Deakins' fingernail clippings to shoot a film better. Who told him he could direct? Wwwwhhhhoooooo ttttooooooollllddd hhhhiiiiiiimmmmm hhhheeeee ccccooooullllldddd wwwrrriiiiittteee??? Thought I better do that repeat question in slowmo in case he saw the post.
The last hour is very okay action sequences with some very bad writing, directing, slowmo, exposition yadda yadda, it's not as soporific as the first three years of this film but it's in no way good and reminds me of merely okay video games that would have got 6/10, at best, on Xbox 360, made in Unreal 3 with shitty lens flare and bloom added for no good reason.
Oh and in case you thought, "well at least that ends this shitty saga once and for all", no it sets up another movie at the end. Unless Netflix decide to cut funding which they should.
Well done to the fighter pilot at the very end that crashed into all those tanks heading for the village and knocking them all over like they were pins in a bowling alley. Fuck me that was appalling shite in a film full of appalling shite but it was so fucking lazy.
Two thumbs down, one of mine has a scar on it which is a point that is about as interesting as this film.
Oh and one last thing, fuck me the big FTL capable dreadnought runs on coal, JFC who wrote this shit?
Final, final thing : towards the end all I could think about was Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II not for the laser sword action but for one of its levels, you'll know what it is if you watch this film and have played the game.

Killers of the Flower Moon - 7.5/10
Was pretty enraptured and then it limped towards an ending, and then all of a sudden whipped out a very jarring epilogue. Mainly just left feeling a bit annoyed? Would've rather had another 2 hours than what felt like a directorial version of a shrug.

I don't know why this tickled me so much, but I'd love to see a show dedicated to rating the ceilings of public figures. "So in summary, the ceilings in Brendan Gleeson's home are varied in colour and ornamentation, but distinctly lacking in character. Overall score:7 out of 11".

You keep watching his movies, guys. At this point I’m sure it’s just because they are now just 3DMark for AV equipment. ‘It looked amazing…and the sound!’ ’how was the story’ ’there was a last supper scene that went on for 40 minutes and I think someone was upset about grain….?’

Once upon a time in Hollywood - 6.5/10
I didn't really take to this one when it first came out, but saw mention of someone else not enjoying it on their first watch, but a rewatch elevated it to top tier Tarantino for them. That was my experience with Inglorious Bastards, so looked forward to being proven wrong here too.
Nope... The last 20 minutes is still pretty great, but the rest of the film is a meandering, pointless load of self indulgent twaddle from Tarantino. Still bottom tier for me, sadly.

Origins is my least favourite film in the whole franchise but luckily you’re not far from First Class now I was never as hot on First Class as everyone else so I'm interested to see what I think about it now. But I'm gonna watch The Wolverine next (which I've never seen!) and then - as I'm doing all the Fox films - flit over to Daredevil and Elektra before First Class. You need to watch daredevil directors cut, as it’s actually half decent

I’ve seen it several times before but gangs of New York. I’ve very partial to a Martin Scorsese flick and for me gangs is up there as one if not my favourite. Daniel day Lewis is phenomenal in his role and I think this was the movie that made me a believer in Leo’s abilities back in the day. 10 Just seen above review of once upon a time in Hollywood. Couldn’t disagree more . Brilliant from start to finish for me.

It got panned on release, but I enjoyed Babylon much more than Once Upon.... Both, weirdly, have Pitt and Robbie, both released around the same time, and both in different ways a bit of a self indulgent exploration of Hollywood's strange history. Babylon is completely batshit tho, while Once really is just Tarrantino being him. That's fine and all, but it's just that: fine. I doubt I will ever watch it again.

I liked Once Upon a Time... Very much self-indulgent (what Tarantino film - besides Jackie Brown - isn't?), but it worked well for me, when many of his other films don't.
Watched Amsterdam the other day (Blu-ray rental from Cinema Paradiso). Disappointingly a bit pants. The central story is an interesting one, about conspiracies and plots to overthrow the US government in the 1930s, but the execution is rather underwhelming. Bale is doing some distractingly weird thing with his character, as does Rami Malak. Everyone else in the incredibly star-studded cast is mostly fine, but the film itself meanders around quite a bit. The central relationship between the three leads is a likeable one, but it gets lost amongst everything else going on.
Looking up about the story itself afterwards, which is stated as being partially true, it turns out to be basically entirely fictional. Only the Robert De Niro character is based on a real person (by a different name) and his real life story actually sounds a more interesting one than portrayed here (he was a military general that became exceptionally anti-war in his later life, writing about how war was a capitalist racket). It is true that this general did make a statement saying there was a conspiracy to replace the President with a fascist dictator, but everything else is so muddled together that it doesn't resemble fact at all.

I wasn’t going to watch Rebel Moon 2 but a Dark Forces 2 reference has perked up my curiosity. I’m assuming spending two and half hours of my life just an “oh yeah, I get where Whizzo’s coming from” moment won’t be worth it.

I can understand the criticisms but it made me feel something which is more than a lot of films manage.
