Timecop - 7/10
This was Van Dammes biggest hit in the cinema, it's very entertaining but not at Die Hard 2/Cliffhanger level. It feels a bit direct to dvd at points then big budget at other points, which is strange. The supporting cast is serviceable but lacking any star power. Van Damme is actually great in it and seems to be the only person who is really giving his all. Switch your brain off and don't try and think too much about the time travel stuff and you'll have a good time.

I didn’t like the movie and I don’t like Barry but I do like that the discourse has been about it and not the DCEU or whatever for the last week or so. It’s one of those films that isn’t for me but I appreciate the world is a bit better for it being in it and it’s been a reprieve before The Fucking Beekeeper comes out I'd pay to see a film called The Fucking Beekeeper, set in the same universe as The Singing Detective.

I’ve not seen it in years but it does look surprisingly TV movie-ish for something I remember being quite a big deal at the time it came out. Certainly compared to some of its contemporaries (Demolition Man etc)

I watched it over Christmas and it had not aged well, graphic wise. It's a fun plot and good idea. JCVD isn't the worst choice and does a decent job but the graphics reeeeally look iffy.

Poor Things - 9/10
Spectacularly weird coming of age fable. Didn't realise it had steampunk vibes prior to going in! The world is wonderful. Loved it, Willem Defoe's ropey Scottish (?) accent aside.

Fast X. The implausibility was possibly slightly less than the previous instalment, but very little in it. Although Ludacris and Tyrese did go to space in 9 (I do like Tyrese, I think he’s low key the franchise MVP).
Jason Mamoa absolutely masticating on scenery. Very entertaining. His character was quite flamboyant and there is some debate and criticism on ‘queer coding’ which I’ve never really considered before (privilege innit) which has made me question how I felt about it a bit after the event. Never realised for instance that Ursula from the Little Mermaid was a send up of an IRL drag queen and that there was an actual law preventing positive representation of gay people in film, giving rise to the phenomenon of the wink wink camp, but ultimately undefined villain characters.
Never thought Fast and Furious would stimulate such debate.

Role Models (DVD)
I watch it at least once a year. Absolutely perfect comedy, so well written with brilliantly funny characters throughout
And it’s got Elizabeth Banks in it as a bonus
10 out of 10

Resident Evil: Welcome To Racoon City
Some baffling choices in this. Even as a rewatch knowing whats coming its a weird one. Tons of references, characters, settings and scenes faithfully recreated from RE1 and 2, but also basically every role is miscast and most of the deviations they do make are dumb and/or don’t work. The most glaring one in both regards from the off is whatever happened to Leon.
Also, whenever they try and dress anyone in game accurate clothing it looks like cosplay. It feels like that combined with the production values in general gives the whole thing a vibe somewhere between high end fan film and a C tier television series.
It is nice being able DiCaprio meme your way through pointing out the references though. And its ambition is to be the film Resi fans had been waiting for since 96/98 so as one of those people I’m on board with it despite myself.

About time
10/10
It is such a pleasant slow film but with time travelling twist i fully enjoy.
It's funny but not really hilarious. Very well acted as well. Which makes watching it very relaxing and easy to absorb the plot and themes.
Out of all rom coms this one is my second favourite. (50 first dates is number one)

Not sure I have a favorite rom com. Maybe The Wedding Singer, but I think that's mainly for the music.
Does Out of Sight count?
Will add About Time to the list. I've seen it around, but the cover image is so generic that I've never investigated further.

Role Models is great. Playing Jane Lynch as cock obsessed was a genius move.

Yeah Palm Springs is great 👍
Funnily enough I watched role models with my 13 year old daughter over the festive break. It’s still brilliant, but I forgot how crude those comedies were around them. Some of the stuff they came out with (particularly Sean William scott) was a bit awkward. Daughter still loved it though.

Nothing beats the period blood scene in Superbad for 0-60 on the awkward scale. Defo watch it the kids.

Ha, I'm at that stage where I enjoy watching the boy get uncomfortable. We're watching C4 Misfits and there's a scene where an attractive young lady fellates a water bottle. I thought he was going to explode (perhaps literally), was hilarious.

Both films leave Prime today:
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
A first time watch and I'm stunned at how cheap it is given the original film made a $200 million profit. You don't have Christopher Lambert returning as Raiden, the costumes look like they've been cut out of polystyrene, the CGI is laughably bad but worst of all are the fights which are just so slow and you can actually see the actors trying to remember the choreography. Its awful.
Babality/10
Mortal Kombat (1995)
It's been years since I watched this so had to remind myself it wasn't as bad as Annihilation and it's actually better than I remembered it being. You have Paul WS Anderson as director which explains that but also Christopher Lambert just loving it as Raiden. The rest of the cast fill out the big names of the games nicely. The big worry was Goro but the puppet they used for him still looks fantastic - the remaining CGI is a bit ropey but so brief that it doesn't matter. The fights are amazing and manage to get the blood pumping with the matchups as well as having actual fatalities. The announcer mixed with the techno music is also *chefs kiss*.
I think it stands alone as a fighting film but they manage to capture the game so well that it astounds me they didn't try to build on it with the sequel.
Flawless Victory/10

Orca: The Killer Whale 5/10 now this is a kinda dodgy Jaws but with a killer shark instead, Captain Nolan (Richard Harris) goes hunting for great white sharks but inadvertently kills a pregnant killer whale, and in a somewhat gross scene he washes the foetus into the sea, whilst (presumably) the dad killer whale bobs about and looks on horrified and has a bit of a cry. The killer whale proceeds to terrify the local fishing port until Captain Nolan is forced to face his demons and hunt down the wretched black and white beast. Ultimately it ends in what I thought was going to be a near identical ending to Jaws with Nolan sliding down an up-ended iceberg into the jaws of his nemesis but instead the whale bobs up and down around him intimidatingly before finally flipping him with his tail 50ft through the air onto a nearby iceberg where it's clear he's suffered catastrophic injuries before slowly sliding into the drink. It's doing the rounds on Legend Xtra.

Triangle is clearly a movie about what would happen in video games that didn't clear the bodies when you respawn. Spoiler protection in place, should have done that first time.

Annihilation does make it very easy to forget that the first was actually kind of a hit.
