The 2.0 free update has arrived a day early with a ton of new content, characters and items. The perfect time to jump back in if you've been ignoring your island!

Will it help me delete my letters from the postbox? Apparently I've reached capacity and can you delete them in bulk? Like fuck you can!

There's so much new stuff. Its almost overwhelming. I've got a few new recipes. I've noticed lots if new furniture on the nook miles app. I haven't visited Harv yet, or gone for the boat ride with Cappn. Might just slowly explore it all over the next few weeks.
My Switch tells me I've clocked 530 hours playtime! Jeeeeez. I'm still loving it, though.

Liking this new cooking stuff. I can finally get my island restaurant idea to work!

Must boot this back up and get back to my island. I did have an idea for a restaurant set up so having recipes in now sounds perfect.
Now if only I can convince Louie to finally leave...

You don't need to build that oven to cook,by the way. You can use any existing oven items in the game to cook with.
Might have been obvious to some, but there you go!
Also, also pre-existing food items are now edible. I accidentally ate a seasonal food item last night.

My little girl is well on the way with her island, she's got the three new neigbours in their houses, the proper buildings for Residents Service, Nooks Cranny and the Museum, we've just chosen the plot site for Mabel's shop, and also has had her 1 room house enlarged (saving up now for the next expansion), and Isabelle arrived last week. Also had a bridge built. We haven't seen any of this new 2.0 stuff yet though.... I'm guessing there is a certain amount of "core" stuff we need to do still?

Really putting a lot more time in AC since the update and the DLC has been keeping me busy too, it's nice to have a more structured part of the game. The requirements holidaymakers have for their homes can be pretty fun too, Harry's shithole being exactly what he wanted was great to do.

That's some bold facial hair

Once you have a 3-star island, those things should start to unlock.

Got access to the Happy Home via Switch Online. I'm liking it! It's actually quite therapeutic just organising a home for someone so far. Not had any difficult requirements yet as early days but it's all very wholesome.
Louie still won't bugger off my island though. It's been 18 months!! I never speak to you.

Louie was my jock starter. I really liked him with his high pitched voice. Ugly house though.
If you want him to leave, you have three options:
1) don't let anyone else leave when they request, Louie will get his turn. 2) invite someone from the campsite. If they don't pick Louie to move out, close your game and restart until they do. 3) buy an amiibo card of a villager you like.

I restarted my island about 6 months ago, just because I wanted to experience the early game stuff again, and I've really taken my time with island development this time around. I'm not rushing to fix up my island, rather I'm just working on small chunks here and there, whenever the inspiration hits me. I've still got over half my island to develop and refine, so I am open to new ideas.
Do any folks want to share their dream addresses so I can see what other folk are doing? I'm not looking to outright steal anything. My design style is hardly complex, but its also little more than a combination of small details I've chained together.
I tend to give residents their own gardens, with simple themes and then figure out how I'm going to link them together with pathways. I avoid going crazy with furniture (as I value a stable frame rate!) and I like to try and keep the feeling of the older games somewhat. I'm just trying to avoid building something too similar to my original island.
I'll be happy to chuck up my dream address shortly. I need to update my dream and remind myself of the code again.

My island is covered with snow now. Looks lovely with the Christmas decorations out!
Also, what are people doing with their gyroids? I started to collect but have way too many now to put out on show nicely.

Best thing to do is take your favourites and stick them next to a music player somewhere. They sink up to the music nicely.

Oooh. I'll have a look this evening. I do spend way more time visiting dream addresses than I probably should. My island is still only half developed.

I love that little excavation site you've got. Very clever use of landscaping there. I've not seen anything like that. I also really liked the fish market area with the tables and stools. So cool. My island is so spaced out I have nothing even remotely like it. Its all pathways, gardens and rivers. No little markets, stools or specialist areas. I think I have a good 200 trees on my island so far. Haha

Hadn’t played this in a year, having fallen off hard but now it’s pulled me back in again. It’s the projects you dream up that keep me coming back for more rather than the grind of fossils/fishing/bug catching, etc. Have yet to try the slightly pricy DLC but it’s just an inevitability that I will.

Its alright. The extra furniture, emotes and rewards make it worth playing, but the general decorating isn't quite as fun as decorating your own island. It has a charm, but I certainly felt less attached to it that even I expected.

I’m keeping an open mind but I probably would have preferred an expansion that focussed on making additions available on your main island.

Sounds good! I wonder if we can expect more expansions down the line. I think AC is the second best selling game on the system…

What kind of projects do you mean? Like themed areas of the island? My little girl and I have put over 100hrs into our first island since early October, we've absolutely loved it, but she's starting to lose interest now we have achieved the 3* island main game, expanded our home, got lots of residents, Brewster and Kappn arrived. New fish / sea creatures / fossils are very rare now so that excitement has also gone. The snow and Christmas stuff got her back in for a bit, but she's drifted off again! I'm not sure the DLC will interest her as she never really cared much for decorating our home. I'm wondering if there's anything else we're missing that might get her interested again!

Oh I just mean when you come up with your own ideas and goals of stuff to do, like building a park or a farm or whatever, creative landscaping and so on. I play with my daughter and when we have a joint project is when we have gotten really into it. We’ve put about 150+ plus hours into it and have yet to try the DLC. Personally I’ve found home decorating the bit that least interests me.
I can totally understand falling off. I took a year off and wasn’t sure if I’d get back into it again but now it’s got me hooked again and I mean 100 hours is quite a lot so not like you’ve been short changed, eh. Why not just take a break. Maybe you’ll feel like returning, maybe you won’t.
