I don't think it's a weird reaction at all. My stepfather recently died, and I can tell people think I'm being insensitive when they ask about it and my response is basically "I'm glad he's gone."
Some people are just pure arseholes who make everyone else miserable. He basically made my mum and me sneak about to see each other for 10 years after we had a big falling out. If he caught wind that we had met up he would be an absolute dick to her for days after. He had kids from various different relationships, some of whom didn't even know he was their father, who he would randomly turn up to see and demand to be respected as their long lost dad. He died friendless and I don't give a shit.
Life is what you make it, and if you make it into a constant battle you're going to make enemies and leave casualties. My mum is so much happier already.
That was good to get off my chest!

Her downstairs has the boyfriend over every weekend. Which means I get to enjoy him shouting down the mic to his mates. If the mic is close to your face mate you can talk normally, yeah? I'm sure at some point she'll get fed up with him visiting just to spend the time online with other people. Rocket on the way; he just doesn't know it yet. When I lived in a semi a few years ago, I got a new neighbour, single guy who didn't do much in his spare time except listen to music. We got on well enough, he didn't have much money so was struggling to do things like keep his front garden tidy, so to save him having to buy a mower, I mowed it for him. He was grateful and said he obviously liked his music, and if he ever played it too loud to let him know.
Months went by, and the music started getting louder and louder, and lasted all day on Saturdays and Sundays, so I mentioned to him that, oh hai Denny (he was actually called Denny), you know when you said to mention when your music was getting a bit too loud? It was a little bit loud last weekend.
That was that, never talked to me again, took complete exception and became a huge twat afterwards.
It was very confusing. I wasn't aggressive or even passive-aggressive when I mentioned it, I was doing exactly what he said to do! And I left it a couple of months beyond when we had actually got fed up of it to give him a chance.

The correct thing to do is record yourself mowing your own lawn, chop it up into samples, make an obnoxious lawnmower trap beat and then play it exceedingly loudly for him. On loop.

On the flipside, we live in a semi, and I'm pretty sure we're now the noisy neighbours.
We've lived through deaf 90 year old with his telly up full blast, to a 50 year old woman with constant drunk garden parties, to a non-stop yapping dog, to now a young family who absolutely do not make a peep. I suppose I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth but there's not a fucking sound. It's actually very disconcerting.
