Ain't much you can do about that other than suck it up. They had the good grace to tell you...and if it's hindering recovery, you could have a word I guess. It's more that they mentioned it was going to be in the mornings but today it suddenly went on until like 8 in the evening, and while my body can adapt to weird nap times (for now...) my mother's can't and she legitimately needs the sleep after the past few days... Anyway, they did tell us and I doubt it'll go on for too long (or that it'll go up to that late again), I was mostly venting because I needed a nap. If it actually keeps happening all the way until Dad comes back and needs his rest we'll have a talk about it then.

According to you and your locale, is that likely to be accurate? For example, here in East London I would expect that to be 3-4 days, 5 with an overrun, and then 6 is taking the piss based on "a few days". And it doesn't sound like they're doing anything major if it's one guy with a drill. And a hammer. Is it kitchen time? A few new bathroom tiles?

On either question If they've got people working on it (which I assume they do, I'm not sure if they're keen on DIY) the quality and speed of the work can vary wildly depending on the crew. As for what exactly they're doing I don't really know, it's my mother they talked with and I don't know if she asked. Again, I doubt it'll last past, say, the end of the week, so it'll probably not become a problem. It was mostly me venting a bit rather than any actual frustration... For now, at least

An entire day without any music from my neighbours, or their bass speaker vibrating my house to pieces! They're up to something.

We get some stupid long delays and import tax on packages sometimes but it's a pretty good life so far I miss it, especially this time of year with all the pictures of friends with Fredo's, Gyros, Sea and ferry trips and the likes. In Athens I was based in Kantza which is the arse end of nowhere so the post could take many months, Christmas cards arriving at Easter, that sort of thing. I think it was just when the postman could be arsed to make the trip.

The cunts next door to us have just gotten a second dog despite the fact that they don't take care of the one they already have (I haven't seen them walk it even once, the poor fat thing just waddles around their yard surrounded by piles of its own shit). Anyway, the new one just barks and howls constantly. I really hope it's gonna calm down at some point. No point trying to talk to the owners about it as they already detest us since we asked their ugly little brats to stop playing basketball right below our bedroom window at 1am.
Fuck. Next place we buy I want a nice big plot with plenty of distance to the nearest house, even if it means living out in the bush.

Nanocrystal That's heartbreaking, those poor dogs. Is that grounds to report them to the RSPCA? Allowing kids to play basketball at 1am is shockingly inconsiderate though. How do these people exist?! Don't they have work in the morning? I always wonder how people manage to live in the end terrace of a row of those basic Victorian terraces, where the terrace just ends directly on a road ie. the side of the end terrace becomes a 'football wall' if kids live nearby. How do people live with a ball being kicked against their house all day?! I'm with you on moving to the middle of nowhere. As long as there's internet I can work. I live in a terrace (end terrace thankfully) but I still feel under siege by noise a lot of the time in my house, mainly from nextdoor. I've learned to filter it out somewhat, but it definitely affects your general wellbeing and mental state, and therefore your health.

All going well we should be moving this month. I’ve had mostly good luck with neighbours so far (one did put a boot to my car way back in the 2000s… although I may or may not have scraped his car while parallel parking, so swings and roundabouts).
There’s always the worry that everyone will be lovely and we’ll be the nightmare neighbours. Baby Shark is coming in Feb 2023 and if it’s anything like it’s old man he’s going to be a moody lil bastard with chronic insomnia.

We're at the end of a road and have this, nice big wall and driveway that was constantly being used as a turning area (this had since stopped seeing as I now park slightly over our driveway to make it much harder to turn around) and neighbour kids playing football there. Essentially had to tell offending kids parents to kindly knock it off. My office overlooks that wall and during holidays it was doing my head in. One of the mums was all "it's such a convenient and good place for them to play!". Essentially our road is on a private development with a large wall running alongside parking spaces opposite our houses. So the kids are now constantly kicking their ball in whichever house has left an empty parking space. Lots of moaning from various neighbours has ensued. I get it, kids wanna play, but their fun is fucking annoyingly loud 😆

Not me, but my GF's brother's neighbours have a kid who wants to be a referee. Little shit starts blowing his ref's whistle at 5am in the back garden. Differentiating between short blasts and just blowing it constantly.
I'd probably be in prison right now if that was my neighbour...

Speaking of footballing kids we used to have a problem with that in our old street but the kids were like 16, 17 years old and still meeting up in the road to play football (they seemed a bit deficient) and occasionally boot the ball into my fucking car windows. I used to keep telling them to move away which they did but they would always be back. When I finally asked them why they didn't take the hint and play in front of their own houses (literally just a few away from mine), it was because their dad didn't like them playing too close to his car.

I get it, kids wanna play, but their fun is fucking annoyingly loud 😆 Yeah it's a tough one! It's very important for kids to play outside, especially these days with so many gadgets threatening to zombify them indoors, but I specifically remember it being wrong to kick a football against my own parent's house when I was 8, never mind on other people's property, so I'd expect kids/parents to find somewhere suitable to play. When I was younger me, my brother, and my best mate always used to ride our bikes down this ginnel between houses which had this fantastic natural dip in the middle, so you could get some great speed up. Then, one day, a neighbour who'd had enough of our noise littered the ginnel with drawing pins! I remember our parents going absolutely ape shit at this guy, as any parent would, although now I can understand his annoyance, and although I don't agree with his "solution", I can understand how people can be pushed to do these things.

I mean yeah I get being pushed to do such things, but there are interim steps to resolving before choosing violence.
If our neighbours kids continue to annoy me using the outisde of our house as their rec centre then I would continue to speak to their parents before considering next steps (it luckily won't come to that, the parents get it), I'm not going to go out there and start laying landmines FFS.

When I say I’ve had mostly good luck with my neighbours…
So in my block, the family on the floor below and across one have a special needs lad. To put a label on it, he is touched with a capital T. Every summer it’s the same thing. They open up their balcony and the lad spends days on end wandering in and out groaning loudly (he’s not able to form words). I wouldn’t mind this at all, but he does it until 4am now.
I get it. It’s hot. It’s not his fault. He’s going to want to do what he wants and they might not have the care he needs to set up a routine or get him to sleep when everyone else is sleeping. But all I know is when it’s 4am and I have an early start the next day and all I can hear is him braying his lungs out… I’m starting to feel much less tolerant as each day passes.
I wish it was just a regular twat getting pissed out there and singing Sweet Caroline, because at least then by law I could kill him.
I’m moving soon and I’m literally begging that we get the contracts exchanged before I lose it.

Yeah that would really get to me. At least you have a move coming up.
My flat faces a small business estate. Every morning about 6.30am a truck/van pulls in and they unload trash into an empty skip. Glass, metal framing and all sorts of shit.
The guy lobs it out the back so it gathers extra velocity. It's incredibly loud.
It seems to be a new phenomenon so I'll put a shitty letter into the council and hopefully that will fix it.
