I've never been able to get into Pallbearer. I tried really hard as they double headlined a gig with Elder that I went to and I just... couldn't. That vein of doom just bores me to tears.

The more I listen to this album the more I love it.
Suffer's "Grand Canvas of the Aesthete" landed on my radar as this is released through Wiseblood Records who have dropped a lot of extremely good shit in the last couple of years. But this is something very special.
Carcass-meets-Suffocation-meets-Morbid-Angel. it's just an amazing 90's death metal vibe.

Quite nice heavy metal / doom / slow thrash from members of Aura Noire & Inferno, with Darkthrone's Fenriz on vocals. I can imagine the vocals putting some people off to be honest. I kind of like them, there's an unpolished charm to them, but they won't be to everyones taste. But the riffs are just amazing throughout.

I really loved some of their earlier stuff but the 2 more recent albums have kind of bored me. I want to love them, and I know a lot of people do but they never clicked for me. Edit: just listened to the new track and I actually fucking love it so yeah looks like I'm possibly talking shite. Edit again: No, it's just that the new track is a lot better than the last couple of albums. |

Horndal's Head Hammer Man album is pretty neat. Roots in death / sludge but not that heavy at all, and it pulls in different directions, quite like this album track with it's loose breaky drumming.

Getting into some old school Incantation (Onward to Golgotha) and Suffocation (Effigy of the Forgotten).
Both sounded pretty much like boring noise at first despite being pretty partial to a bit of the heavy stuff, but after a bit they've got their hooks in. Those early 90s eh?
Looking forward to the new Necrot album which I think is out tomorrow. Both singles so far have been blinders.

Stumbled across this band and rather like it. Good progressive, melodic black metal but it's the little blast of d-beat punk early on that elevates it imo.

Love this band, you might have stumbled across it via my post on the last page  It's pretty accessible, I've had it on in the car with various non-metalheads and they loved it. That's quite an achievement for a (sort-of) black metal band |

Quite liking what I'm hearing from Horndal, so Thanks for pointing it out.
I'm generally not the biggest fan of Twilight, but apparently Aaron Turner's contribution on "Monument to time end" made the difference. One of my all-time favourites.

Recent discovery: this High on Fire album is fucking great, really hits the spot, I'd not come across these guys before.

SpiralScratch I came here to say pretty much the exact same thing - the new High on Fire album is stellar. Very much 'another HoF album', but when you're this damn good, what does it matter?

Saw an ad on Facebook saying Devil Master had Dodsrit supporting but on closer inspection sadly not the UK dates...

New Judas Priest album is far better than it has any right to be. The singles were great and the album lives up to them comfortably. It's easy to be both too forgiving and too critical of legacy acts, but honestly this is just great. Maybe too long, but unsure where I'd trim things down, there are no tracks I'd call filler. It's easily a top ten JP album for me, and quite possibly top 5, just after Screaming for Vengeance, Painkiller, Defenders of the Faith, and British Steel. Need to see where it settles but right now it just edges out the previous album Firepower. Between Firepower and this I do think they're putting a lot of other legacy acts to shame. I finally got around to listening to it this morning, and fuck me does the opening of the first track sound like Tom Sawyer by Rush. |

Shout out to the podcast "2 promoters 1 pod" by the guys that run Arctangent and Damnation festivals. Super interesting and fun to listen to, about the many facets of booking a medium sized festival like these. Not a huge fan of metal core generally but kind of enjoyed this, I do like Poppy and that kinda reggaeton beat in the breakdown was fun.
It's actually making me want to check out their other stuff.
I'll never see them live though as hardcore kids scare me. |

My fave metal album of all time has a remaster out today and it sounds great. Audible bass! Mostly though it's just a less loud mix and makes for more pleasant listening of an already stellar record.

New Rivers of Nihil. Possibly my fav of the ones they've released recently but...I dunno. Think I need to wait for full album to come out, it's ust not grabbing me in a way I can't explain. Props for a drum solo tho, Jared's prob my fav in the business right now

Gel and Sunami are the best two hardcore/metal crossover bands of recent years imo. In a similar vein I'm also really digging Mindforce at the moment. Check their track "Excalibur" for example.

This is quite nice, initially reminded me of Panopticon with it's americana-meets-black-metal kind of sound, though it's quite different not being quite appalachian. Or maybe shades of Borknagar. Certainly want to keep an eye on this band.
They've been around for at least 10 years looking at their discog so I'm characteristically late as usual

Also been listening to the new Darkthrone album. It's very much in the same doomy vein as their last few albums, but this time the Celtic Frost influence is even more pronounced.
Unsure how I feel about it. The two pre-released tracks are legitimately great, and there are (obviously) some wonderful riffs, and I'm very happy to hear Fenriz's clean vocals on a few sections (though the Coffin Storm side project gave us an album full of those recently). There's also a bit more experimentation, more hooky guitar leads than usual, even some soloing on The Bird People Of Nordland, and some proggy sections on the close The Lone Pines Of The Lost Planet... but it just feels a bit plodding at times, and the underproduced nature of their work means it sounds a bit thin at times.
That said the more I've listened the more I've appreciated it, so it feels like a grower. I'd give it 7 to 8 out of 10

Checking out 200 Stab Wounds as I'm seeing them later this year. Gig is Enforced, these guys, and Gatecreeper headlining. Should be a devestating gig. Might have to stand well to the side though.
