So I decided to pick up Black Mesa, which I hadn't played for a while and it seemed like all my saved games had disappeared. I went looking around and found this:

This Next Patch Will Break Saves

We had to edit the levels for some of the fixes, which means we had to invalidate old saves to make sure it didn’t break people's games. You can restart the chapter or load the map via the games console. Sorry for any inconvenience, hopefully you were not in the middle of a hat run!

My bolding. Yep, they just nuked every single fucking save every player of the game had with no warning. What really gets me is 'To make sure we didn't break people's games.' When they've just made absolutely sure they've broken every person's game.

Or not... Sounds like it's not the first time they've done this too. In fairness I'd probably start from the beginning if I played again at this point, but this kind of thing puts me off even considering it.

Whilst it's not a good thing, as long as the chapter you got up to is still unlocked, I can't say I'm too bothered. The chapters aren't that long and it's half life, not an RPG where you'll have a very customised load out and skills.

I’d be in the same place as you. I’ve had the final furlong in Xen (which now goes on like a Stuart Lee joke) to complete for like a year. But it’s not the worst. All the chapters are unlocked from the start so you’d just gain/lose a bit of ammo, I suppose.

I get what you're all saying, but it doesn't feel like playing through the game any more for me. Sure, I can start a chapter and use the console to spawn whatever I lost (if I could remember what it was) but it's just not the same. Like running half a marathon one year and joining at the halfway point the next having run 13 miles to get there. You haven't actually run the whole marathon.
