It appears my Paramount+ app refuses to play anything, so not a problem with Lower Decks. Anyway, TIL that Kate Mulgrew and Rene Auberjonois acted together in Mrs Columbo. I'd never even heard of the series before. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyKTL1piecU

Today's episode of Lower Decks is quite something and certainly sets up what should be a cracking end to the season next week.
There's some stuff from Star Trek's past that I'm sure no one could have expected.

Looking forward to it.
I noticed in the last episode, in the intro part where they tell you it's star trek...I noticed a Koala in the space around the delta 🤣

Watched a few. Even at 720 is better than what we have. It's a shame really.

Have finally caved in and subbed to Paramount+ (with the current £34.95 for the year deal, it would be rude not to!) and started on the fourth season of Lower Decks.
Really, really enjoyed the first two episodes. Not sure if they were particularly better than what has gone before or I've finally accepted what it is, but I've gone from thinking the show is just fine to really looking forward to watching the rest of the season.
Also looking forward to finally getting into Strange New Worlds. Watched the first episode on a flight earlier this year and thought it was great. A nice return to the feel of classic Star Trek (albeit more late 90s Trek than The Original Series it is closer to on the Trek timeline). I'm sure I'll watch season 4 of Discovery at some point, think it is finally improving into a competent show before it turns into a complete disaster in the second half, like every other season.

Without spoilers I think the back half of Discovery S4 is the best the series has delivered so far With big doing a V’ger/Arrival hybrid is a much more interesting direction that the usual tone of the show. Star Trek rarely does mystery and majesty and while far from perfect it was good to see the Discovery writers stretching their legs with a more ambitious sci-fi arc. I’d argue that arc is better than the first two seasons of Picard too but then S2 of Picard is probably the worst season of any Star Trek.

Yeah, I think DIS S4 certainly has its issues, but for once it doesn't fall off the cliff towards the end. If you're ok with the first half, I believe you won't mind the second either.

Ah, I can see the direction of travel now...
Script gets greenlight and is in production when Stewart dies
After 2 minutes' soul searching, they realise they can finish it with a mix of AI, CGI and lots of reused shots of Fall Out Boy
Despite being critically panned and ethically questionable, fucking nerds flock to it

Yep, it took them 3 seasons to work it out, but they finally delivered what people would actually want from a return to the Picard character. We don't need anything more from him now. Picard S3 also setup a perfect continuation for a Trek show set post-Voyager that everyone has been asking for since the beginning of the TV revival of the franchise, but that seems to be getting ignored.

For instance, I'm walking along, and I see this beautiful Klingon, and I think I'd like to see her naked, and so all her clothes beam off. She's scrabbling around to get them back on again, but even before she can get her knickers on, I've seen everything. Yeah. I've seen it all.

Stewart looked fraile and very old during the start of s1 of Picard. Also s3 as a good end to the character after the shite that was s1 and s2

She's scrabbling around to get them back on again, but even before she can get her knickers on, I've seen everything. Yeah. I've seen it all. Then Riker shags them.

If you spaff in a holodeck character does it dematerialise when they do as part of some kind of sanitation sweep (like a reverse Replicator) or does it just fall to the floor when the holostructure holding it up vanishes?

Lower Decks had shown that holodeck clean up is one of the most hated tasks for them.

An early episode of TNG (The Big Goodbye) actually states that the holodeck would wipe every solid fleshy person inside if it is abruptly turned off. Presumably that would also work for anybody's... err... waste.
Probably unsurprisingly, they ditched the idea that the turning off the holodeck mid-session would murder everyone in it. Those things are already lethal enough without that "feature".

Not sure if I'm more put off by the idea of the prequel film or the idea of the Picard film.

They've got an entire galaxy to do stuff in and Paramount continues to show a distinct lack of imagination.

A prequel to the 2009 film? This is basically a prequel to a prequel!
Sigh. It would be nice to see some more of the 24th century, with new characters in a new area of the galaxy, instead of constantly going back to events circling the original Enterprise (obviously, we had Picard to continue the 24th century, but that was a reunion show that forgot to be a reunion show for about 20 hours).
