The gaming industry, where so many games and consoles have been and gone, a lot without incident.
But then there are the ones that launch with so many problems, that it can often turn frustration into hilarity. Or more frustration.
So what are you tales of woe regarding gaming launches?

2012's SimCity. I was so looking forward to a new, massive city building game that could also look amazing. And what we got was a small, bugging mess that would make you que in a lobby in order to play.

I'd totally forgotten about Sim City. Was quite hyped for it prior to launch, then they just completely shat the bed with it. Might have to check if it's on Origin access and take a look.
Diablo III with connection woes, utterly shit drop rates and a real money auction house was a pretty terrible experience.

I miss the real money auction house. But then I made a profit, so I would. :-D

Gears 5 had lots of issues at launch including problems with campaign, multiplayer, lack of content. We still have some issues but it is hugely improved...good job as it is not being "supported" anymore save for a few odds and sods.

Diablo 2 Resurrected still has major server issues over a month since since it launched.
The original FFXIV had to be shut down for more than a year and rebuilt virtually from scratch, it was so poor.

No Man's Sky More of a shit storm really, I like the game for what it actually is (or became after a few updates).
They let the dream of what No Man's Sky could be become a colossus that overshadowed anything they could release, the PS4 is in it's Twilight years and they're still updating, in terms of features it's finally about where people expected but I've still never seen a planet like the one in the trailers with the giant dinosaur like wild life.

Cyberpunk was the big one, but since that was mentioned AssCreed Unity and Skyrim were big offenders. Particularly if you played them on a PlayStation console.

Mass Effect Andromeda. It didn't live up to the features that had been hyped before launch, it failed to live up to the world building of the previous games and it was clear that it was a far cry from the ambition of the game. So we got a rushed release with a fairly pared back story, fetch missions galore to pad it out and to top it all, it launched in a buggy mess.
Shame as there is a good game in there, but in terms of disappointing a fan base and killing a franchise dead in the water, I can't think of much worse.

Which was the assassins creed game that shipped early? I seem to remember random bugs like skin disappearing from face etc.

@ryands - Unity was pretty broken at launch.
I'm playing Immortals Fenyx Rising at the moment and legit had to pause the game just now to remind myself what it's called. While the game itself is solid, the name change and lack of marketing pretty much meant it disappeared from the public's consciousness as soon as it came out. Shame, as it seems like a solid game and pretty toned down compared to the usual Ubi collectathon.
Not a disaster, but it definitely deserved more...

I believe Rome 2 Total War was a complete wreck at launch, triremes sailing through land and that sort of thing.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to realise it was a variation on "phoenix".

GTA Online at launch had all sorts of issues- newly created characters could become corrupted, losing hours of progress; you were frequently booted from missions after waiting ages for a matchup, and more: www.theguardian.com/technology/2013/oct/01/gta-online-grand-theft-auto-v-liveAnd on top of that, there wasn't actually that much to do. You really had to enjoy grinding the same missions again and again to get even the lower-end vehicles and properties. If you took someone who joined in the past year and showed them the version from 5 years ago, let alone from 2013, they'd probably hate it and get bored immediately.

Not sure it counts as a launch disaster but I've bought some unplayable crap at launch over the years. Shadowman and The World is Not Enough on PS1 spring to mind, before patches were available to cover for the release day shitness. That formative buyers regret has made me the picky game purchaser I am today.

Brink.
I had such high hopes for it as a team based game. Terrible net code didn't help.
Also, pretty much every Battlefield game I can remember for the launch week(s) server disasters.

Anthem? I never played beyond the demo they released but it seemed like ever time they showed it prior to release the reaction was “this looks shit, we don’t want it” to which the devs said no, no trust us you’re going to love it. Turns out it was shit and no-one wanted it.

Skyrim
Playing it at launch was equal parts hilarious and frustrating.
It still has launch day bugs that need unofficial patches to address.

I believe Rome 2 Total War was a complete wreck at launch, triremes sailing through land and that sort of thing. Oh yeah, it was a train wreck. I still haven't tried it since they did a big update a couple of years back.

Despite having posted in this thread I just misread it as Gaming Lunch Disasters, and was reminded of the time my friend managed to kill my PSX by dropping a lit tulip into it trying to change the disc, then knackering the laser trying to dig out the burning dope whilst I was making sandwiches.

The early editions of the Codemasters F1 games were a bit of a bugfest IIRC.
