I like the 404 cause in my mind deeper looks cooler and looking cooler makes you go faster!
But in reality my bike is already way ahead of where I am as a cyclist so whatever wheels I get will be both an improvement and utterly pointless because my ability, or lack of, is the thing that's not making me a good cyclist. No amount of fancy wheels will change that...
But I'd assume on a gaming/tech/gadget forum we all understand the power of 'shiny and new'.

You don’t need to be pushing out 5W/kg to “deserve” nice gear, I don’t but into the all the gear no idea nonsense. If you want to experience high end stuff then go for it, good for you, as long as you do it with a bit of class it doesn’t matter how fast you can go. Someone in full ineos kit on a dogma will look like a twat even if they’re the fastest in the group (the won’t be)

Looking at the 404s later in the year as well, only downside is hookless rims, so tubeless only (and not all tyres) .. still not 100% sold on that on the road.

Hookless worries me. Sure, plenty of other vehicles use them but at under half the pressure. They might be my disc brake like hill to die on.

cheeky question but if you don't ask, you don't get.
is anyone looking to buy any bits from Le Col? I have an offer where if I refer someone and they spend £100 we both get a pair of winter gloves worth £75. Are there any takers?

Speaking of which, Bowman went bust the other week though, so it is an ever shrinking supermarket shelf. Sad news, love my Bowman Palace:R frame. I ride this frame with the Zipps 303 FC with the textured rimbraking surface. Incredible wheels, so fast and punchy yet stable. (In dry weather they brake great, though in heavy rain conditions stopping power is basically non-existent.)

It is, yeah, I really really love the Palace R and one was on the cards if I could swing it this year.

It’s the frame that Ballan won the worlds on back in 2008, when Lampre were at their best

Just wanted to say thanks again for the advice here and provide an update.
The Boardman 8.9 ADV came back into stock in limited numbers this morning and I've managed to hurredly nab a couple from Halfords. My partner isn't far off the minimum height for the smallest frame size (3cm) so I figured let's give it a go and we can get a refund in store if it doesn't fit her.
I had intended to use Tredz, but they were pretty unhelpful. Refused to hold stock for 48hrs whilst I wait for the Cycle Scheme voucher to come through, even if I offered to pay effectively a 100% deposit. Halfords by contrast let me buy on credit card and will refund to my card and transfer to scheme payment in store when I present the voucher. I do now have to cancel my Tredz voucher in progress and change it to Halfords but that should be fine.
Anyway, very pleased to have something sorted. I'm aware that people say Halfords are bad at building bikes. Is there anything specific to watch out for when we go and collect? Collecting in about 10 days from now.

That’s fab. 3cm should be do-able. If you needed to you could swap for a stem 1 or 2 cm shorter to help. Not sure about Halfords building stuff, but I suppose they’re a generalist, at best, so might miss some stuff. Post here, sure we can advise if anything leaps out.

First time I've been out today since November, haven't done anything but upper body weights in that time. Was definitely an error in judgement going straight for a 60k, I don't think my legs have ever been so fucked. I nearly did a little cry at one point.

I did the same, straight in with a 60k. Luckily I had someone to drag me round, wasn’t pretty though

Have you got almost identical groupsets on those two frames? I can spy the wheelset is different.

Have you got almost identical groupsets on those two frames? I can spy the wheelset is different. Record 11 on the wilier, super record 11 on the colnago. Same Bora 50 wheels essentially, the only difference with ultra is the carbon hubs, different model revisions with better brake track and profile on the colnago. Other bikes have got chorus 11, Potenza 11 and super record 12, got to try them all

Took out No.1* for the first time in months, but muckier than expected so I’ll have to get the cotton buds and baby shampoo out

Exceptionally well, he got everything right on this one. All the contact points are the same as my colnagos but the handling is much more modern and direct, everything just feels fast

^^ This guy humble-braggin'
How long should I expect a saddle to last? Before the jokes start, I am of below average weight! I've got one of these stubby, gooch-relieving numbers, and I'm sure it's starting to sag in the middle after just two years.

Are you sure it's the saddle, and not your gooch?

A saddle should last as long as it takes for the covering material to rub off
