Coming into Autum again, it's the time of year Jazz and Blues makes their way to the top of my listening pile. Usually my tastes are the more brass instrumental side so today I'm listening to Soul Trombone by Curtis Fuller youtu.be/IvdHu6Lt1jYAs well as trombone, thre are very impressive keys in this track too, as an unaccomplished pianist Jazz keys have always felt like literal magic to me. The skill involved is incredible.

Jazz music has always pissed me off. It's more than just not liking it. I'm not sure what it is, I just constantly feel like I'm waiting for something to happen when I listen to it and it stresses me out
Does Tom Waits count as Jazz/blues? I do like him quite a lot. Invitation to the Blues is one of my favourite songs

Add in some Mingus and Monk and you are indeed set for the nights drawing in.
I regularly listen to loads of jazz. Early 70s live Miles stuff is currently on heavy rotation.

Me too. None of it especially unusual, tbh.
Miles, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Cannonball Adderley, that'd sort of thing.

I started today with Sun Ra's Liquidity, so so good and a complete contrast to last night's closing album of The Shape of Punk to Come, which isn't Jazz at all besides the obvious nod to Ornette Coleman.

Nice.
Not sure if it's "proper" Jazz but I am loving BADBADNOTGOOD's new album Talk Memory
And just generally, the Spotify playlist Jazz UK
I know fuck all about jazz but it makes a nice change from metal for me.

It’s an oldie, but this is still a big favourite of mine:
Soweto Kinch is very much worth checking out.

I have Ghostface Killah's 2015 collaboration with BadBadNotGood, Sour Soul.
That and El-P's High Water Jazz album are both worth checking out.

Was lucky enough to see these guys live many years ago. Seven Days of Falling is the only jazz album I've ever really gotten fully into. It's almost a hybrid of jazz and post-rock, with Radiohead and Sigur Ros influences. If anyone can recommend similar stuff that would be awesome.

I really like that Moon Hooch track but judging by the comments the singer is a bit of a one off.

Yeah, I usually link that track as it's their most approachable but their usual production has the same awesome energy. Another band I was reminded of my buddy likes but I don't, Snarky Puppy: www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_XJ_s5IsQcI like Coltrane and he prefers Miles Davis. There's like this divide between the cool jazz and the sweaty jazz.

Does anyone play? I have an alto sax tucked away, but sadly haven't played it for 10+ years. Mind you, I only got as far as squeaking my way through Strangers In The Night. It's an ambition of mine to get some lessons and learn it properly one day. I used to be a decent cornet player too, but that was all brass band.

I used to play double bass. Did some free jazz and Brazilian samba / bossa nova. I miss it heaps.
