I've been legitimately meaning to watch Fight Club in the next few days for about 15 years now.

I keep meaning to watch Bladerunner 2. I think the Cyberpunk thread made me realise why I'm hesitant - I'm worried they might have fleshed out the world more and it'll lean heavier on the cyberpunk stuff with hacking and jacking in and street gangs and other sillier cyberpunk stuff. I know practically nothing about it

There's not really any hacking or jacking off in 2049. It's more Ryan Gosling wandering around in the most gorgeously decrepit cyberpunk dystopia. Someone just needs to deepfake Jared Leto out of it.
I would happily watch a six-hour video collage set in that world.

Never seen Apocalypse Now but just found a dvd of it in some boxes that have been sealed for about the last 8 years. I'm going to watch Apocalypse Now, now. I've actually only seen Redux. Turns out, all the scenes I found incredibly pointless and a bit dull to the point that I didn't like the film much were the ones added into that version. I should probably watch the original and see if I actually like it.

Yeah, Redux is bloated. There's a recent Final Cut as well, as Coppola has been going back and re-editing a few of his movies.
Aside from the re-edit of The Cotton Club being interesting seeing all the scenes that were cut and only existed as promotional stills for years, all the others are worse. The only version of Apocalypse Now you need to see is the original theatrical cut.
There's an hours and hours long workprint version of AN as well.

I've never watched The Thing from start to finish.
Only bits and pieces.

I kind of like the French plantation sequence, even though I know it doesn't really belong. That and the bit where Kurtz is talking to Willard in the cage about the media.

Admittedly there are incel tones to it now, but I'd argue that those are down to times overtaking it, rather than any intent of David Fincher or the screenwriter (Uhls?) at the time Also Meatloaf

I think this will become much worse going forward. I can't get my kids to watch anything "old" eg more than a few years old. They have so much new content on tap, they don't have to spend time watching reruns of films on portable TV in their rooms.
At their age I was loving old films on BBC2/Ch4, they used to have classic sci-fi seasons, foreign language. all the old classic films. There's no way any of my kids would sit down and watch these. I wouldn't either now to be honest, so many other distractions.

I’ve seen most classics and culturally significant films. I’ve worked my way through a lot of must see list type things. The only film I’ve never seen that shocks (a certain type of) people is Love Actually.

ET
I have no idea why my school thought it was a good idea, and it would certainly not happen in this day and age, but when ET came out at the cinema the school showed a pirate version of it in the gym that was so bad it was completely unwatchable - but it meant I didn't go to the cinema to watch it and I have never seen it since.
I only watched all the Star War films a few years back as well as at the time it came out and I went to the cinema my mum conned me into watching Bedknobs and Broomsticks instead and after a while, not having seen it became such a big thing that I ran with it.

Well the first time I caught the final 30 -40 minutes (when the alien gets on the bike with the boy). Since then circumstances dictated that I caught only snippets. As I've seen how it all pans out I've never been inclined to finish it. Carpenters films (aside from BTILC) always left me feeling a bit Meh.

All the Godfather films. They’re long, and look a bit grim. But mostly long

But yeah, I saw so many good things just flicking through the 4 meagre channels and just watching things because there was nothing else on.

Ah, the good old days of jumpers for goalposts, flicking through the Radio Times finding old movies I'd never seen and the only real way to see them was if BBC2 showed them at Christmas.
Maaarvelous.

So, a little while ago, a friend of mine inserted a Predator quote into one of our conversations. And when I returned a complete blank, we realised, to our horror, that I'd never actually seen Predator. Or at least it had been so long that I'd completely forgotten it.
I don't know how it happened! I think it was one of those things that I'd just absorbed through cultural osmosis, and I never stopped to ask myself "hang on, have I actually seen this or not". I'd seen all the other 80s classics though - your Commandos and whatnot - so I don't know how I managed to have this blind spot for so long.
Anyway, I watched it, and it was great. Now I just need to catch up and watch it a hundred more times.

Well done for correcting the error. I realised similar about 4 or 5 years ago. I felt very silly that I had deprived myself all those years.
