Gotta say my that'll do 2 minute job resulting in a burly fella speaking with a female voice probably means I'll be remaking my character in Feb.

The one advantage of doing it in the beta is you can redo it time and again with no need for character edit vouchers.

I've been using a lance since Freedom Unite, I'm not going to change anytime soon!

Lance is always my back-up option. I fancy skilling up with hammer this time around, and the support role of HH appeals to me as well. In lategame Rise I always have the two sisters with their HH as my hunting buddies.

HH this time has a version on World's bubble that you drop three times and the monster is damaged by the bubbles if you hit it when it's in the zone.
I can't wait to see what happens if a team of 4 HH drop 12 of them.

Will need a tweak methinks

I'm really keen to get some FG squad action going in Feb. There was a squad/clan thing in World. Wonder if that will work with crossplay, or we can only do it on our own platform...

You wash your mouth out, sir. Nothing quite like the bigbaddaboom stick, although you need the anti-flinch skills and armour to tank hits. So, first hour, fighting the controls and camera more than I should, and if MHW had options, oh mamma. Arachnaphobia filters, really ? 15mins of tweaks after the first two toad/chupacabra fights, and I think I've got it handling like it should. Lance has some new auto-counter quick hits I see, but GS is as GS should be. Like the saddled 2nd weapon, new wound/precision mechanics seem fun for piling on damage, and the learning new monsters is always fun. Not keen on some of the areas, trying to judge distance/camera position on some sloped dunes is an absolute nightmare, but going back in I'll see if the tweaks have worked, specifically having not been able to lock-on camera for love nor money.

Yeah it'll work, you just need each other's Capcom ID to invite each other. I'm pretty sure there'll be a clan/group to keep all the ID's together. We have an Streetfighter FG group that does the same thing.

I'm Oss, aka N63UC4D3. Just rolls off the tongue.
In all seriousness, it's located on the menu, 3rd tab (info) under your Hunter Profile. Guild card effectively, and a R3 toggle should show your ID code. Early night for early start tonight, but definitely up for a lobby tomorrow. Killed a Lana Del Ray with some Japanese longsword types in under 20mins, so I think I'll be ready.

Joined a random to fight Rey and they died once and then fucked off back to the base camp while I did all the work and then came to carve. Kinda rude.

I'm finding this impenetrable at the moment (admittedly it's only my second time playing it). I'm now in the open world/camp and speaking with Alma(?) she suggested going in the tent to choose a second weapon and set up the pack. There's too much going on in there to grasp anything pertinent so I didn't do anything apart equip a bow.
Where to go ?? ... the map is loaded with icons so I gave up and just decided to head out and 'feel' my way around. I couldn't leave though, my character just kept auto turning around towards camp. I assumed I had to go out a different way but then I watched others leave, I just needed to get on my seikret bird/horse (birdoss?)
The mount just endlessly runs forwards which angers me when I want to stop and just take in my surroundings. Can't stop it so I just jump off. In then end I stood in a field trying weapon attacks from a guide but it's not the easiest to follow that weapon guide when they're all on pad and trying to translate that to m+k. I might have to suck it up and use a pad until I've got some time under my belt.

You need to use a pad.

You can turn off the seikret auto-explore. Check that settings video I linked to.

I'm already on my third revision of settings. It's all starting to click again, muscle memory is engaging... Btw, gunlance now SLAPS. Has some perfect counter (block and white flash) that engages the tug-of-war/power struggle minigame quite frequently, and suddenly I'm an explosive ballerina, unleasing 2-3 full barrages in a twirling explosive mess. IT IS GLORIOUS. Wyvernfire seems to have a boosted recharge too, for the pefect finisher. And a call back to Far Cry 2, as everything in it's path is SCORCHED EARTH, actually sets fire to the scrub and scares small monsters away, and possibly a bit of DoT for all ? I couldn't really tell over the manic, manic laughter and the blackened, ash ground. Ahem. I think I might be changing my main. The HBG seems quite powerful too as midgame(?), absolutely wrecks the toad/rocklizard solo, need to try on the larger bois with some distractions. Explored a bit more, entire icy caverns beneath the map, a "forecast" on the map showing special events, upcoming monsters, and even the varying strength of them. A 2* doesn't seem to have as many/rare drops as a 4*, but that could just be RNG as usual, but I assume they vary in health/stagger/attack power ? There's a lot more going on than first appears, starting to delve in and understand it, but it feels like constant Guiding Lands 2.0 -The Grind Never Ends. And I mean that in a good way, with the variety of monsters popping in with timer limits (12 mins before it leaves, so weak ones can be ignored, hunt something else), the ability to walk into someone's ongoing hunt without quest boards, the auto-travel as you restock/combine in menus. The only thing at the minute is possibly smithing requiring leaving a lobby, but I'd wager that might unlock in the village if not the camp come full game, seeing as the cat cook placeholder is in.

Well you didn't have to leave the lobby in Rise to smith, and Gemma the hottie (because she's a blacksmith and it's hot work) can be found normally in the hub.

Could you not visit the smith in the lobby in World as well? Perhaps not, when I try to remember the top of that ship in Astera.

Played a bit, definitely will probably have frame gen on just to keep things looking smooth. Stuck with my usual switch axe for now. Doshaguma a bit of an arse and I carted twice trying to use the new sword mode counter move, which feels like it doesn't work properly because half the time it seems to read RT+Y as just pressing RT and swaps me to axe mode leaving me standing there like a wanker.

It feels completely upside down not using X for a primary attack and having it on Y. I have smashed through loads of consumables because I just can't train my brain to not use X. I could not work out how to swap weapons. I've done it accidentally and managed to swap back but trying all the buttons did nothing. I found there is a guide in the menus and it said press D-pad right but all that did was bring this stupid fucking bird in to scoop me up which then runs off with you and takes 3 seconds to cancel out. Finally realised you have to be on the stupid fucking thing to swap them.
Gah! I've had enough, 3 hours of banging my head against against a vertical wall. I'll watch a few more guides and give it another go tomorrow but I'm finding it impossible to get into so I might just fuck it off. I think I might like it but at the moment it's just an exercise in frustration for me just fighting the controls more than anything else.

I feel you CV. I'm veteran, tens of thousands of hours, haven't played World/Iceborne in years, and it's even taken me an afternoon to get it setup "just how I like". When you have 4 pages just for camera settings, yeah, trying to appease the faithful all with our own preferences and tics seems folly and a huge barrier to others. On the bright side, it is a beta, and we've just been dropped in with no guidance, lots to play around with and figure out ourselves, whereas the story mode come release should provide a much more graduated intro to it all. Oh, and my remarks about smithing/lobby - I'm wondering if we'll need to return to hub at all. The only clue I've found that we may was a whelk resource "that can burn like coal". And there's no crazy cat carnival machines in sight at the mo.

True. The full game will start with 1* village quests which walk you through the start of the game. Hunting 10 small monsters or gathering 10 herbs/honey/ore. Plus the target monster will be highlighted on the map and by the scout flies. Chatacabra will be the target monster to get 2* quests unlocked.
