Root owes some runs here after dropping Rohit for 30 odd! Another well poised test though.

That is so poor from Root. You have to be smart enough to recognise your talent means you can bat a session or two with no risk. Make the bowlers tired, and set it up for everyone after you.
He's possibly England's greatest ever batsman, which doesn't stop that being awful batting.

Poor all round by the looks of things. Bazball is great but at some points in the game, you have to take a more traditional approach.

They were so well set after Ducketts epic performance yesterday. I am too a lover of Bazball, but agree Dougs, they need to revert to a more standard Test approach occasionally. Was a great opportunity to dig in and grind their bowlers down.

At the 1st innings break, before England had started batting, Michael Vaughan nailed it on BBC online when he said that if they try to Bazball their way to India's total they'll finish up 150 short and most likely lose.
Vaughan can be an annoying dick but he was right,
Disappointingly predictable from England, particularly after the brilliance of the batting on Day 2.

A very sketchy wicket early on and then getting some swing with the old ball. Decent recovery by England. Nice to see Root get some valuable runs.

Decent day today. Let's hope we can mop up the tail quickly and put a defendable score together before the cracks get much bigger!

Root slows down a gets a century. More of this please! Glad someone else said it I am completely happy if Root does Root-ball like that at every match, and the rest of the team does Bazball. For me, the press take a really reductive approach. Bazball is actually about playing your natural game, but doing so with a lack of pressure to deliver every innings. Root will not have been asked to score faster or slower, he's just made poor choices in the first few tests. The clear example of that is to think about what the opposition want you to do. Most of England's lineup, they'll want them to go into their shell and trust that they'll get them out at some point. For Root, every single team we play will want Root to take more risks. This is why Sibley could average 50 in county cricket, but if the strike rate is low he won't get picked. There's a role they are filling there as an opener that requires a certain comfort taking on bowlers. Root's role is just to be Joe Root.

Yeah, been listening since 7. Very disappointed we let the tail wag so much. Losing Stokes before tea was a blow. I expect them to come out swinging a bit after. Need another 50 minimum.
Talksport is gash though. Can't quite put my finger on it but it's just a bit off.

This is so well set up again for an amazing day tomorrow. England can win this, but think they're 50 short.

Pretty sure my notifications showed Duckett out at 218-2 - going well, I thought - then the next one had them as all out.

The hero worship of Stokes from the commentators is really starting to grate on me lately.
