Shame to not capitalise a bit more but taking a step back we've been really lucky to see 11 days of amazingly entertaining test match cricket so far.

I'd love to know the statistic for how often (and quickly) Root gets out at the start of the day if batting the evening before too. It seems to me like he can never get himself back in at the start of a day.

RIP Ashes. Self inflicted pain in all 3 tests.

Bazball be damned, how much more evidence do they need that Bairstow shouldn't be nailed in to spot in this squad. Drop him for the next test and bring in Foakes.

Maybe I’m old fashioned but I like test cricket where batsmen dig in for the long haul and frustrate the bowlers, never been a fan of T20 style cricket and tbh I’m actually kind of glad the approach has been found out at this level

I know what you mean, but the trouble is T20 and ODI focus in 1st Class cricket means that few players can do that anymore. Doing a Geoffrey is a thing of the past.

It wasn't really the Bazball ethos i was criticising I like what it's done for us, it's that Bairstow isn't justifying his selection for his batting or his keeping at the monent. Great player but he's in a rut this series. Ashes cricket needs a world class specialist keeper like Foakes. We've got the batting firepower elsewhere in the order if that's the worry.

Maybe not doing a Geoffrey, but a Cook or a Strauss would do. It’s all well and good playing fearless razzle dazzle cricket, but not when it’s a guarantee you’ll lose a wicket before you’ve got 30 runs every innings. Just grind out 100-0 before you flick the switch

Given his performance with the gloves, he really needed to justify his selection. Not that shit shot.

Maybe not doing a Geoffrey, but a Cook or a Strauss would do I agree, I do. Play the balls that are there to be hit and if you get done by a jaffer, so be it. Flailing around outside off stump is just rubbish.

It's the application of it that has been terrible at times this Ashes series combined with a catalogue of absolutley shocking mistakes (Bairstow so far has 5 absolute howlers and counting) and poor team selection. No doubt in my mind this series would been going in a massively different direction if we had won that first test, as we should have at a canter.

I mean, in this innings all you need is Stokes to stay in for a hundred or so, and it's still very competitive.

I haven't seen much discussion either of Stokes deciding to bowl first these past two tests - that's another example of over-Bazballing imho. I could kind of understand it the last test with the overhead conditions but still, you're playing a team with 3 of the top 5 test batsmen in their side. In this test, I saw we were bowling and assumed we had lost the toss... totally agree with Mark Taylor on comms yesterday, seriously needed to bat first and get runs on the board in a must win game. Bowling first is unwarranted Bazball aggression/arrogance at a time when it needed to be taken down a notch and just do the sensible thing.

I think your batting has let you down more than your bowling. Marsh's 20/20 knock aside, we've been more able to stay in for longer periods to grind out runs. And that's Test cricket; the aggressive stuff is more exciting moment-to-moment, but it's like a completely different game.

That's debatable, we scored more than Australia in the first two tests at a better average per player. We lost on extras conceded and arguably dropped catches. The batting has actually been ok, as has the bowling! However... I agree that we haven't batted long enough and we had a great opportunity to punish Australia when Lyon went off injured.

Bazball is all about batting like it’s a one day match though? Playing confidently and aggressively is good, but you need to know when and where

Second innings in the first test will haunt me forever I think, if ever there was a time to put the game out of reach, Joe Root's abysmal shot (I appreciate he got a ton first innings, but that's beside the point) is currently top of my list of examples of terrible over-Bazballing.

Aye, surprising really given the lack of captaincy.
