I'm not a big eBay user. I've only sold a few items in the past and bought 1 or 2 things. I recently sold an AV receiver and tried to sell my PS4 and a copy of Ratchet & Clank that came with my PS5 bundle, both of which didn't sell.
Last night, out of nowhere, I received an email saying my account had been permanently suspended with no indication as to why, only saying that this could not be appealed against. I've not had any other communication from eBay about any issue and don't really have much of a clue as to what terms I would have broken.
The AV receiver sale all seemed perfectly straightforward. The person buying picked it up in person and paid for it in cash, which I updated the system with to say I received payment. The two other listings I had up for a week, neither of which sold so I removed the listings.
My account balance is showing a negative, although I'm sure before the suspension email it was showing a positive at the same amount I sold the receiver for. Clicking through on the balance shows this is for putting a reserve price and a buy it now price on the PS4, although there was no indication that there was a charge nor for how much when I did that (I originally listed all 3 under a "list 3 items for free" offer). There seems to be no way to actually pay the negative balance.
I'm not really that bothered about the account being banned, I don't particularly use eBay and I can always set up another if I have to (although, hopefully this ban isn't connected to my bank account). I'm more just confused, as I don't have a clue as to what I've actually done to warrant it. If it is to do with outstanding payments then I definitely want to pay that off, but I've not received any outstanding payment warning and it was less then a couple of weeks ago that I listed these items and only sold the reciever a week ago.
I'm also a total goody two shoes and don't like the thought I've done something wrong.
Anyone have any clue as to what this would be about?

They don’t like you doing dealings outside of eBay - which accepting payment in cash, you did. You can still collect in person, but the transaction needs to go through them. I got ticked off a couple of years ago for doing the same with an Xbox.

That kind of makes sense, but why have an option to record that a payment has been received if they always expect it to be done through the system? As I say, the balance on the account changed to reflect the received payment when I clicked that option, indicating everything was fine. Decks - where am I supposed to sell my latex now?!

Cash on collection is a selectable payment method though. I’ve sold loads of stuff on eBay and taken payment separately, since their payment methods won’t cover you under any circumstances if you don’t have a signature from a courier.
They don’t like you making arrangements to sell off the platform to avoid the fees though.

Double check your recent listings. My S-I-L had an ebay business selling those fabric flowers you see at weddings and one day, after her account got stolen, she also started selling mobile phones.

This is most likely a false positive
There's nothing you have done wrong, you can accept cash payments as long as the sale goes through eBay.
I would get on to their chat help.

I don't know, maybe something you did brought the hammer down for fee avoidance. It's all automated and probably more trouble than it's worth to try and find a human being to check into it for you. If you haven't used the account much it's no great loss and you can just make another one in future if you need to.

I did send them a message through the eBay messaging thing-a-ma-jig, asking them if they could explain this decision and that I was happy to correct any breach of the rules I may have made. Received a very quick response, but it was just your standard "account suspended as it was seen as a risk to eBay and its users". The message ended by saying something about it being best if we part ways now and there is no option to reply any more.
All very confusing. Can't think of anything that couldn't be easily corrected if they just told me what the issue was. I considerd digging out some senior person's address and send them a polite complaint email, as that normally resolves these things, but don't think I can be bothered. I'm not even that put out about losing the account, as I could always just make another, but it would be nice to have some explanation so I don't have an issue again.

As someone familiar with how ebay operates, they've been more difficult and punishing as of late. We had our account suspended for 3 days because a listing was of an adult nature, when really it wasn't that bad and several other sellers were selling the exact same item without issue. We've been having to bend over backwards to be careful of ebay policies and they change on almost a weekly basis.

No eBay suspension here but a general eBay question has anyone been getting the 80% off seller fees recently? I’ve been saving up a bunch of stuff to sell waiting for the old 80% off fees but haven’t seen it come through for a good few months now. Anyone else noticed if it’s stopped or not?
Not on Facebook so can’t sell through marketplace.

I stopped getting those offers after I stopped selling on there. I've seen suggestions to just list any old thing and they should start coming in again, but fuck that.
Seems a bit daft to not use them to entice people back.

Thanks, maybe the sentient computers there noticed I only ever sell with that reduction active. Dread to think what their percentage cut is now.

PatrickEwing I almost never sell via eBay, but I receive the 'Get 70% off on variable selling fees!' message twice a month like clockwork - indeed, I've tried repeatedly to unsubscribe from them, to no avail.

They're still about, but becoming more and more account specific - there's a 70% off final value fees offer this weekend: www.hotukdeals.com/share-deal-from-app/4373218
