So after managing to wean myself off the digital equivalent of crack on 25th June 2021 according to Steam, this morning I loaded up DSP for "a quick look". It's 12 hours later, Mrs Toast is pissed off that nothing has been done around Toast Towers, yet I will still be up all night optimising my conveyors. This is the way.

good luck. my first playthrough in early beta lasted 241 hours. i'm waiting for some more updates to come down the pipe and then i'll be jumping back in. official blueprints are in now so it'll be much easier on the hands

Surprised my 12 yr old hasn't asked for this, he's all over this type of thing.
I reckon it's more "educational" than Horace Goes Skiing that I was playing at his age...

This game is like crack. I rarely put more than a dozen hours into anything, but I quickly flew past 100 hours. I've now 'completed' the game, but am still researching white cubes and am really just tinkering with everything now. My set up is far from perfect - I just can't get my hands on enough hydrogen and power production is a constant fight, but I absolutely love it. Like crashV👀d👀 I think I'll wait for some more updates and either start again or just enhance my current set up...

Yeah. They've been in unofficially when I was playing via mods but they're now in as part of the regular game.
I'm not sure how well it's implemented and wether you can save them.

Like pretty much every game I ever play, I keep re-starting rather than playing through. It's pathological. I have a brilliant session (just yesterday built a fantastic mall) and feel great about it, then the next day I come back and it's not quite right... so I start again. Can't help myself. Wouldn't mind betting that 80% of my Steam library I've never seen late game assets, just played the hell out of the first half. I need therapy.

You will unlock some towers in this that greatly change how you think about playing it and I've seen so many comments about how they restart with what they've learnt in mind.
I also guarantee you will then get to a certain point as you grow and suddenly think, "shit, I need to go bigger". I've also seen posts that people restart at this point too.
The tldr of all this is my advice. Don't!
You have a massive planet and by this point access to others. If you want a restart do it on the other side of this or another planet and uses the resources from your current infrastructure to feed the development of the new one. As you bring the new products online, use it as a checkpoint to then dismantle the old one.
The only way you will ever play this game 'perfectly' is if you plan out all your ratios from the very beginning and build with that from the ground up.

Oh goddamn it.
Curse the useful game suggestions of the forum.
Picked this up, it's ace isn't it (although I can sense I've barely scraped the start of it....
edit: and yes - I'm massively late to the party.

yes it is. check back in often with updates, i like to read on other people's progress. I have one two tips which i'll spoiler below in case you don't want it and involves you first off planet hunt for resources. when you eventually leave your planet for titanium and are shipping it back .. set up processing of the ore off world and just ship back the ingots. additionally, it may have passed you by but you can get low amounts of silicon from stone early until you can get to silicon deposits off world - helps with the solar panels

So I seem to be playing this again - really just tweaking things and now exploring for rare minerals etc. My white cube production keeps chugging along pretty nicely (albeit not fast) so I'm just leaving it to unlock the various tech. I saw the video where they mentioned combat. I'm in two minds about this - I like the relatively sedate pace of DSP, and I can see how it'll be incredibly annoying if someone starts attacking your set up and you're off planet half way through some complex bus... I'll keep an open mind. The thing I'd also say to anyone who's tempted to re-start - don't. Once you get further into the game you'll unlock some buildings which'll pretty much make your early set up pretty obsolete - I ended up dismantling pretty much the whole lot to make space for my new stuff. I'm at the stage where I can go to a new planet and provided I can build and power an interplanetary logistics station, I can get virtually any building or component shipped straight to me. It's pretty cool

Fairly chunky update came out recently that brought some Icarus customisation options, a bunch of QoL changes and 5 new machines to use.
Piler (aka stacker) Will allow you to double, triple or quadruple the amount in a slot on a belt. If an item/stack goes in, immediately followed by another item/stack then they will be merged on the belt. You can achieve some serious throughput. Serious business!
Proliferator (aka painter) Allows you to paint items on a belt for either increased manufacture speed or resulting products. There are 3 levels of painter which increase the benefits each time. What's more and hope you're sitting down, you can even proliferate the proliferators (boost your paint). //mindblown
Geothermal power Drop them on the lava planets for free power. 'nuff said
Advanced miner This thing is nuts. Drop one of these bad boys over a few veins and watch it go ... through your ore and power like a mother fucker!
Advanced smelter. Numbers go bigger.

Going full nerd and creating blackbox blueprints. Raw ore in and product out.
Turns out they're quite good for early game. I have a lovely one for starter red science that gets me to x-ray cracking and then I replace with with another that is oil refining->cracking->red science. Its self contained and purdy.

Errrr so how do you actually get off the planet? I can't see it in the tech tree anywhere.

Errrr so how do you actually get off the planet? I can't see it in the tech tree anywhere. There are 2 trees to progress. You want the 2nd one with the upgrades rather than the new products/tech. Somewhere on there is a boost upgrade, first upgrade is ability to fly. The next upgrade is the interplanetary travel (same solar system). When you do go sailing across the stars be wary of your power, both having a source to power the journey (2 ways) but also don't leave the little guy unattended aa there are no inertial dampeners in space so once up to speed you'll maintain until you need boost to slow momentum. Alternatively, aim corrextly and you can 'super hero landing' onto the surface

I've had that for a while without realising it let you actually go in to space FFS. I assumed there'd be a specific thing mentioning it.

I'm remembering from my last playthrough so don't know if anything has changed with regards to interplanetary travel. There was no auto route option you had to basically fire yourself at the destination planet and then adjust for planetary shift in-flight.
It was also quite difficult to locate the destination from your 3rd person view on the surface. I found it best to set a waypoint and it would highlight the path making it loads easier to take off, leave orbit and reorient yourself when in outer space.
Ahhh I feel a playthrough is due...

Yeah the flying is very not intuitive, I think the gravity of gas giant I'm orbiting is affecting it... but you can't just set an orbital insertion like it's Kerbal or something so you're just constantly steering. Very odd.
Anyway. Greggs Primus is clear of the Dark Fog, there is a small Titanium Mine on Greggs Secundus, and I'm on to the planetary logistics network ripping out the original factory and harnessing just everything on Primus.
