Currently plaing Judgment. Will consider the sequel after I have completed this one.
This is only my 2nd Yakuza games (Like a Dragon previous), and I am noticing that they re-use A LOT of assets from game to game which is kind of off-putting. The one I like the most is the NPC on their phone walking down the street towards you, then stops and turns around walking the other way. See it all the time.
I do enjoy the main story lines though, so we will see.

I’m about 8 hours in and enjoying it a lot. The game gets right to business, old characters are back and firing on all cylinders and they did improve the things that annoyed last time. Tailing (though I’ve only done it once) is more interesting with more options, chases are move active at rewarding you for getting things right while also having more and more consistent button bindings, and they fixed the mortal damage system: boss enemies still have mortal attacks (and Yagami is just as fragile as ever) but now they’re easy to dodge and if you do, you can hit B to clobber them with a massive counter attack.
Speaking of counter attacks, the new fighting style is insanely powerful and can basically stop anyone in their tracks. It’s a lot of fun (and very profitable SP-wise) to just deflect everyone’s attacks until they start cowering in fear and then you use special EX attacks to completely psyche them out and eliminate them in one go. That usually leads to someone else’s morale failing and the whole fight kind of crumbles, as long as your EX gauge is high enough.

I fancy this just for the arcade & Master System games, but I'd probably get bored of the main story. Finished 0 / Kiwami / 6 but then abandoned Kiwami 2 and Judgement halfway through. I think I like the arcades more than the games themselves. They really, need to stick some new games in there though, Out Runners, Power Drift, Galaxy Force and Thunder Blade would do just nicely.

The Super Scaler arcades still seem to have their old issues too, Space Harrier runs below 60fps and Super Hang-On only has digital controls. Haven’t tried anything else though.

Arrived today and at off work tomorrow so should have an evening and most of a day to play with.
Had it pre-ordered for ages so missed the nicely timed eBay code sadly...

I'm tempted to play the first one, having never played a Yakuza game and not feeling like the sprawling epic series that series has become. Skill-up's assessment of the main character in Judgment is that he's shit though, and that's put me off a bit.

He isn't shit at all but he is very much the straight guy with the side characters providing the humour.

Maybe it's a dub/translation/reviewer issue. He's been very good so far and yeah, he's a good straight man in the original too. He might be a bit lost without characters like Kaito and the others but they're pulling their weight too.

I played Super Hang-On on one of the Yakuza games, and I don't remember it feeling any different to the X360 port?

That might be an Xbox specific issue but it definitely feels like digital controls on the stick.

The scope and scale of this is actual off putting.
In my opinion there's such a thing as too much content...

I forgot this was out today, I’m tempted to get it but I have other games on the go so may wait until the DLC is out.
Judgment was really good, but I do miss Kiryu. Yagami is decent but not on the same level, like someone said above the rest of the cast make up for it.

I think I am about to bin off Judgment (the 1st one].
I do really enjoy the story and tone of the game. However, there are just far too many tedious moments. Some of the side quests are mind numblingly dull. What has done it for me though is I have just got to a part in the main story and it has turned into a “dress up a girl” simulator. Literally having to choose a dress, haircut, colour of nails etc. This is some juvenile and dumb shit to include.

Strangely doing the undercover mission in Judgement with doing the "dress up" turned out to be a lot of fun when I did it.
I'm right at the end of Judgement chapter 10 and it has been dragging a bit more than the Yakuza's I've finished, it doesn't help that that bloody gang turning up and causing trouble happens so much when you're just out and about doing your own thing. I think that's something you can solve once and for all but I don't think I'm at a point where I can.
Still got Like a Dragon to play yet so once this is over I'll play that in bits and pieces and by the time that's done, sometime around 2023 probably, Lost Judgement will be a lot cheaper.
