Yeah, I have to admit. I don’t use the fairy tether at all. It is just too much of a faff and the AOE heal you get at lvl 80 is much more useful.

FFXIV noob update number 7. Have now got Summoner, Warrior and Dragoon up to late lvl 40s, and have also been levelling up various gathering and crafting jobs. Been putting a lot of time into customising my HUD, and have now got my controller cross hotbar and W cross hotbars set up so that I can see all of my action cooldowns at once. My main problem now is that I'm constantly switching between jobs rather than sticking with one and practising it properly - I'm very much master of none at the moment. Still only at around lvl 35 in MSQ (just found Cid) so I guess I'll just keep faffing around with all three jobs for now and see which one I gravitate towards. I am also starting to get a few nice armor pieces and get really irritated when they don't match, so have been dyeing and glamouring a bit too. Oh, and levelling up my chocobo.

When you level summoner you get a free scholar.

Yeah true, but I've been ignoring that job as healing really doesn't appeal to me. I am enjoying the tank role though, it's fun to go toe to toe with huge beasts and just stand there smashing them in the face while someone else keeps my health topped up. Still dabbling in black mage a bit too, though it seems to consist of a whole bunch of fire and ice spells that all feel quite similar. Prefer the summoner's skillset with the DoTs that you can spread among mobs, fester, and can even heal/resurrect. Seems like a good all rounder (at around lvl 45 at least).

Yeah, summoner is fun. It’s getting a complete rework done on it for endwalker and it looks great. Actual summons but losing the DOTS.

I got my car last night, after much grinding of the gold saucer. Was quite a good atmosphere as loads of people were doing it.
Also halfway through dragonnsong, so will be able to start the 3rd expansion soon. Not going to make the release of the new one though, but that's OK.

Chaos - Ragnarok.
Sadly, with the unprecidented player influx and the issues in sourcing server hardware, they've had to bump the planned the Data Centre Visit system, which was due to land before 6.0 Endwalker to post expansion launch. Entirely understandable, but a bit of a bugger nonetheless.

Can't stop trying out new classes. Archer this time, and finding it nice to be able to use skills while moving for a change. Meanwhile, approaching lvl 50 with four other jobs. Is it feasible to keep juggling them like this or should I be choosing a main at some point?

Is it feasible to keep juggling them like this or should I be choosing a main at some point? With the amount of xp you get from MSQ and side quests these days, I'd say you can feasibly take 2 jobs to max level at the same time, with some amount of FATES, duty roulettes on the side. If you're not interested in doing side quests, then you're proportion of FATES, duty roulettes will go up. This is thinking about the amount of free gear you'd get from quests, so I think 2 jobs is doable without spending much gearing up.
I'm not including things like Palace of the Dead in this answer, because I think it has diminishing returns after 60.

Light Twintania too, mid 60s, halfway through dragonsong Ooh, could meet up for some dungeons etc. My main is a warrior although thinking of dabbling with a red mage. Gibonicus Haxe if you want to add me.

I've (finally!) made it to the last batch of ARR MSQ after what feels like years of running, flying and teleporting backwards and forwards talking to people. Really loving the game despite the absolute drag those quests have been and everyone speaks so highly of HW+ that I'm genuinely excited to start it. Changed from a summoner to a red mage which has made the last few sessions feel really fresh again, too.
Really wanting to get into the crafting and gathering side of the game soon but I have no idea where to even begin.

Just pick one you like the sound of and get stuck in. They're structured similar to adventure classes, and some of the stories are pretty good. They're like a class in themselves.
Like with everything in the game, if you don't like it, you can always change freely.

Thinking I might try out mining or gathering as well as fishing.

They're a little bit grindy but you level up fast and there's something I find quite satisfying about them. Haven't tried fishing yet.

I don't mind a bit of grinding, it's why I enjoy MMOs actually hahaha. I was actually a bit sad when I discovered I couldn't mindlessly grind trash mobs for random loot when I first started but that's also probably when I realised that this game was a bit of a gem. Thanks for the insight though! What crafting roles have you got going? Keen to give botany a go later when I login.

I've got a miner up to lvl 51, armorer up to around the mid-40s, then botanist, blacksmith, leatherworker, goldsmith, carpenter, and weaver at various other levels. For the crafting jobs you can't really focus on just one, as their missions usually require materials obtained from other jobs so it's best to do them all. Fortunately their mechanics are all very similar, and there's kind of a minigame for crafting high quality items where you have to use skills in a rotation for the best outcome (HQ stuff). There's still plenty of RNG but you can mitigate it if you use your skills well. I think fishing and culinarian are the only non-combat jobs I haven't touched yet.

Are you wearing the gear you're crafting? Literally every piece of gear I have is from quests but I'm guessing the crafted sets are superior?

Not really as my combat jobs are mostly at higher levels and it seems that crafting really good gear requires materials from parts of the world I haven't visited yet in the main story. I am hoping my investment in levelling my crafters (particularly armorer) will pay off at some point with gear I can use!

This is a really smart move after the end of 2.0, because as a result of legacy design, none of the 2.x jobs gain any additional skills until you reach Heavensward, which can easily be 5 or 6 levels worth of no change to the job you've been playing, which can be pretty wearing. However, Red Mage and Samurai don't suffer from this, and are available as soon as you're level 50, meaning you get new toys to play with at regular intervals again.

I'd say you have around 90 mandatory quests in total left, so still a bit to go yet! I just finished ARR about 5 minutes ago, there were some raids toward the end that were really fun and the story picked up right at the end.

Oh jeez, sounds like I dodged a bit of a bullet there then, considering finishing the quests from level 50-HW only got me half way through level 52, even with a few other things done on the side.

Get in! Complete edition(s) on sale on PSN. Don't mind if I do. I presume I can buy it now but hold off on activating my sub until I get to the end of HW (or hit the free trial level cap)?

Loving the armor sets you get as reward for lvl 50 job quests, though the summoner's hat looks a bit... odd.
