And guess you actually had to be running dungeons and gearing up etc to progress as opposed to steaming through everything first go. The trials and raids in crystal tower were fun though. Want more of that please. There's a set of 3 alliance raids at every level cap (60, 70, 80), though all require completion of their respective expansion patch (3.0, 4.0, 5.0). Trials are detatched from the main story from Heavensward onwards, instead of being integrated like Ramuh, Leviathan, etc. They should be too hard to find though - basically whenever you finish off an expansion base patch, there should be a load of + marked quests that pop up, generally in the new hub areas.

Hehe wife just took a look at my character in low-level mage gear and said he looks like the village idiot. Can't disagree. At what point do you start getting decent looking garb?

Glamour can be unlocked from Vesper Bay (outside the Waking Sands) at about level 15. IIRC, the npc just wants some orange juice, which is available at the nearby shop. Then you can make villiage idiot grade gear look like something else. As for better options all round, later levels generally, though there are some good bits to be had here and there.

It's actually a bit of a weird economy due to glamour, as a lot of low level items are artificially expensive due to their cosmetic value.

I’m also just into HW after finally completing ARR.
Without wishing to start a heated debate the difference in the community compared to WoW is night and day.
We wiped a few times in a 24 man and there was a player bitching and moaning.
Said person was completely put in their place with the phrase “this is FFXIV not some other game. We go again, but next time hopefully better. If not we repeat. If you aren’t happy to play nicely please leave now”.

Yeah, having played both for considerable time, people definitely nicer, and will generally stick with things to stay to the end and be pleasant.
Had someone in a trial recently spouting off, moaning about the tank, moaning about healing. Threatening to leave after one more wipe.
I joked, asking if they'd just come from wow, just to try and lighten the mood, everyone laughed and they left instantly.

If you are lvl 15 you will have access to the smiths missions. You can get good looking/quality gear from that. You can find him by sestasha dungeon or in any of the main hubs inns

Thanks for the tips on gear guys. Actually I just did all the multiplayer combat training missions and got a much nicer looking outfit as a reward from doing those.

Arcanist now up to lvl 24. Slowly progressing the MSQ and have started dabbling in armor crafting which seems quite involved. What other jobs are worthwhile levelling up? Weapons crafting I assume? Most of the others, like fishing, cooking, etc, sound a bit dull.

Logging and mining are decent gil too

I actually quite like fishing. It's relaxing, and takes you to quiet remote areas you might not normally go.

Got my first job (summoner), got a chocobo and joined a Grand Company. The sheer number of Things To Do in this game is pretty overwhelming, it makes Yakuza 0 seem lacking in content in comparison.
Is PvP worth having a go at now or is that only for people with maxed out level and gear?

I've never done PVP, but I know it gives you a different (largely reduced) skill set for each job, and all gear is irrelevant. Stats and HP are fixed and I think it is just supposed to be about ability with the toolset provided.

Some of the gear you get from it looks cool and is quite unique, so alot of people just do it to get stuff to glamour

Been out of the country for a few weeks and I'd left it right in the middle of the post-ARR content. Not gonna lie I've not felt the pull to pick the game back up

I think a lot of games are like that, I find if I start missing a few nights of playing, I start to lose interest without any desire to carry on. Cobble that with the frequency of releases, and the next shiny thing, then it's easy to move on.
That said, if I can push through a point where it becomes comfortable, or I have a level of investment, then I can pour 100s of hours into it.
In regards to this, it really helps that I have a regular partner to play with, which drives me through the points where I'd bail. Tbf, if it wasn't for that, I'd have probably sacked this off ages ago too.

It's easy to get distracted, sometimes after a hard day at work I just spend an evening in the Gold Saucer, playing on the arcade machines, chockobo racing, gambling, events and ofc triple triad 😊

It really does feel like you could spend a year or two just playing this game and nothing else. At least it doesn't harass you with daily grind shit. I know that stuff is in there, but the game doesn't seem to rely on FOMO and doesn't try to make you feel guilty for not doing it, unlike Destiny 2 and the like. And there doesn't seem to be much (any?) sunsetting of content (aside from the 1.0 stuff obviously). That really pissed me off about D2 as it felt like they were taking away parts of the game I'd paid good money for. FFXIV seems to respect your time and is happy to "allow" you to play other games. Yeah really digging this game and am almost certainly gonna buy the complete edition at some point.

Been off work and laid up on the couch with a bad back the past few days, so have been absolutely hammering this. Got my summoner up to lvl 44 and also lancer, marauder and thaumaturge up to around lvl 30. Getting used to basic rotations and have started customising my hot bars (a bit fiddly on console). Summoner and lancer are my favourite jobs so far, thaumaturge I find a bit fiddly with the constant mode switching to regain MP, and tank classes feel a bit like too much responsibility when doing multiplayer to me. Ranked up in the Maelstrom company but MSQ only up to about lvl 28 quests which is limiting a few other things so I'll have to press on with that now. Also, I somehow got addicted to mining (currently lvl 50). Waiting eagerly for a sale on the full game, but if I hit lvl 60 before that happens I might not be able to resist it.

For messing about with your hotbars I believe you can plug a mouse in. I've only dabbled on the console version though, so don't be mad if it turns out that I am talking cobblers.
I love gathering. It's quite relaxing.
Hope your back is sorted soon.

Yep, you can plug in and old USB mouse and keyboard to the PS4 (assuming the same is true of the PS5). I once had to quickly adapt to console controls for a new raid because my GPU decided to blow up the day before a patch, and setting the UI up into a useable state was a real mission.

M+K, eh? Hmm maybe. It would make targetting much easier too presumably, which can be super awkward with a controller and is the main thing putting me off trying a healer role.

Woke up to watch it. I'm a mentalist.
A little concerned about Scholar. It has a very solid healing kit, but the presentation for it was pretty underwhelming. New Summoner looks boss.

Regalia mount quest event is back, soon everyone will be driving cars. Can also get all Noctis' clothes too
Quite a good cross over story with ff15 though.

As a scholar main, I am not concerned. I am pretty happy with the healing kit as it is at the moment. Maybe some higher potancy by healing would be nice and a smarter fairy (which they hinted about). Honestly, it may have seemed barebones but I am fine with that. The 1.5 sec cast time for attacks is very good.

Yeah, I never run out of ways to cure people unless things are going spectacularly wrong, but I'd like more damage buttons. Fairy tether seems like the worst bit - too long to charge, too tricky to use in movement heavy fights because you can ground the fairy in one spot unless you interrupt the skill. I'd rather it just be a dps button, tbh.
