I like 4 better than 5, just. You won’t miss the modern appointments and polish of 5 if you haven’t played it yet, I’d get stuck into 4 if I were in your boots

4 is melancholy and a reflection on loneliness and abandonment.
5 is unbridled fury against the unjust world.
Both are amazing but I like 4 a bit more.

I've paused P5R after around 80 hours, where I'd just started the casino palace , roughly how far through the game is that? Has to be over half? Felt like a good time to have a break as the game has started to feel a bit routine, although I had just fallen in love with Haru

P3P and P4G are available now. I've just double dipped on the switch bundle, which doesn't seem totally terrible at £33

Can't decide if I want to get P3P again or not. The updated version would be nice but I already have the modded PS2 version on my Steam Deck.

I am torn between them free on xbox via gamepass, or pay for the actual versions I want on switch.
I am excited to replay 3 as I barely remember it. 4 I absolutely love but have done 3 times on the vita.

Love it. It's like that parody wrestling review Roguey wrote.

Yeah there are certainly issues with some characters in P4, and they definitely chickened out with Kanji.

Find this with most of the (albeit few) JRPGs I've played. Not just persona, it almost feels like it's a trope and they got away with it because of the strength of the games and time.
I hope its something that will improve with more modern iterations

I suppose it's that argument of is it fair to judge something from the past with the eyes of today but acting as if it was made today as well as expecting different cultures to share your values and cultures. I'm not surprised comments are turned off but on the other hand it feels almost cynical to bring up something like this but demand no discussion about it just the writers viewpoint and accept it at face value.

Kinda expected from a guy who lists "giving a voice to marginalised people" as one of his interests.

I think it is fair to criticise old media from a modern viewpoint. People rightly criticise HP Lovecraft for being a massive racist, but you can still buy his books, and some of the things in that article are perfectly valid. Yosuke is a massive sexist and homophobe, Kanji is totally gay but they chickened out from saying so, etc.
I do disagree with the "Naoto is trans" angle though. IIRC she never says at any point that she *is* male and is in the wrong body. Her story arc is more a comment on how massively sexist Japanese society still is, and she disguises herself as a boy to get ahead in her chosen career.
Could be wrong, it's been a while since I played through it.
However, this is a remaster, and not a full remake. I would expect them to change things if they remade the game from scratch, and none of this stops P4G from being my fav game.

Quite a few of the characters in P4 come straight out of old Japanese VN tropes though. Yosuke is the male best friend who is always a piece of shit so the protagonist looks better by proxy, Naoto is the girl who dresses as a guy because otakus love that, Yukiko is the beautiful princess in a gilded cage who needs someone to protect her, etc.
That doesn't mean people shouldn't complain about it, but I can understand why they are the way they are. Atlus didn't look very far when they made these characters. They went for archetypes.

I was surprised to see 2023 on that article, they’re points people have been making for a decade plus at this point.

Working from home today, so been listening to the P3 soundtrack all morning, games downloading to my Switch for later.
Here's the entire live show from 2009 from around the time Portable was released, some good versions in this.

I'd love it if they held one of those Persona concerts over here, I'd definitely go.

Hmm... started playing p3p on series x and it feels wrong playing on a TV. I really want to play on switch but am so skint at the moment.
Bloody first world problems. All I want to do is play it in bed.

The text is pretty huge, so I'd say cloud streaming to phone could be an option. Worth a try anyway

Is P3P worth getting? I read a review that suggests it was pretty heavily cut back to fit it on a PSP.

Is P3P worth getting? I read a review that suggests it was pretty heavily cut back to fit it on a PSP. The main change is the removal of the 3d explorable world outside of Tartarus, it plays more like a visual novel, and you move location by choosing from a menu. I don't mind it, but I can see that some people might be put off.

P3P will save you quite a bit of time if you like talking to all the NPCs. Instead of having to run around all the 3d evironments to talk to people, you just get 2d images of locations from the original and a cursor to move around
P3P also adds a female protagonist and a couple of new social links
P3 FES has quite a significant epilogue that's not in P3P so it's worth playing after if you're invested in the story. If you only intend to play it once, and you can emulate it, I'd probably say go for FES
P3P was my introduction to the series though and I wouldn't have an issue playing it over FES now for the main game

Time saving sounds pretty good actually. I want to play it on Switch so I think I'll grab it and P4G together.
