The parry with the inquisitors shield is so slow that you are better off not trying to use it.

Those flying Putins in stormveil castle are a nightmare without any ranged weapons or spells. Craft throwing knives using animal bones

Margit was a pain in the arse for me. He's down, but for a time I was struggling to read his moveset and time my rolls. Still quite squishy as the Astrologer. At least you have some clothes. Poor Mavis the Wretch is very squishy but my dodge rolling in getting better. All I have are some boots and a helmet. I’m not wearing the helmet at the moment.

The leader of the first soldier camp you come across has some pretty jazzy boots if they drop for you.

Heading out to visit family (selfish nephew and his birthday) so no chance to play until tomorrow. Definitely got its hooks in me though! Regarding parrying - I can't seem to get the timing right but just to check it is just L2 or am I missing something? I've a small starting shield so perhaps it's just not possible to party larger weapons? Also there another tip in the tutorial about some sort of 'block then attack' move. Anyone remember what that was called? Cheers for any tips! Edit: oops I mean L2 Check that your shield skill is parry, not Strike or w/e Second main story boss (I assume) is bonkers. And really hard.

I played a bit offline yesterday and found the game world a lot less noisy and more immersive without the constant notes and bloodstains. Recommended for general exploration.
Bloodstains have been working fine for me BTW.

My son can but my friends can't access online functions. Apparently pretty widespread issue.

What an incredible game this is. So much of Breath of the Wild and Shadow of the Colossus in there.

Actually to be fair, perhaps L2 can be attack if you have a weapon in left hand? My shield is left hand. God I'm such a noob at this. Perhaps take my advice with a pinch of salt Left trigger / L2 does the weapon skill for whatever’s in your left hand. So, if it’s a shield with parry skill, it does a parry, but if it’s a weapon it will do the skill for that weapon. If you’re holding a sword and shield, and you switch to two-handing the sword, L2 becomes the weapon skill for the sword. Edit- in DS3 some shields had a skill which copied whatever was in your other hand, allowing you to perform that skill while still holding the shield. Haven’t seen any shields like that in this game though (yet?)

Sorry to be that guy but I feel a bit underwhelmed so far . I think it’s mainly because of the amount of stuff to take in is pretty daunting and I’m really shit. Hopefully I’ll get into it .

I always suck at parrying in these games, to the point where I normally don't bother (except Bloodborne, where it feels much easier to pull off). I hadn't actually tried it in this game, but noticed messages saying to parry that Bloodhound mini-boss I mentioned in my previous post. Gave it a go and actually was able to parry him 3 out of the 3 times I tried. Made him much easier to deal with.
I will now go out and start trying to parry everything and fail miserably.
Actually, I rarely have a shield out and normally 2 hand my weapons. Bit low on strength for my current weapon too, so have to 2 hand it.
Not too sure where to go at the moment in the castle. Went across a big long bridge that had 3 massive enemies. Initially just ran past them, only to find the other end of the bridge had a big closed door. Went back thinking maybe killing the enemies might unlock the path. Helpfully, their attacks damaged each other, so I was able to just let them take each other out. No such luck though, as the path remained closed when they were all down. Guess I need to explore the castle a bit more, although tempted to have another peak around the area east of the starting area.
So many options!

I have a Brass Shield that uses my right hand weapon art, it's really handy because I'm a bit cack-handed at switching between 1 and 2 handing.

I don’t know whether I feel a little the same way, but I have had a couple of nagging doubts about it too as it feels like more of the same, but I’m only an hour and three quarters in. Hopefully I will pick up its rhythm soon. I think because I’ve done it’s gameplay loop a lot over the years it’s not quite as fresh and wow as I hoped. But yeah I’ve seen nothing yet and barely started, and the time i have spent with it as flown by so it just getting used to the systems and rhythm of the game. Once that happens it probably be the greatest game ever haha.

This morning I've been killed by a demonic labradoodle and opened a chest which transported me into a horrible, horrible place.

Out of curiosity, when were folks going for Margit? About to jump on this for a biggish with the boy and we left after doing most of the stuff around the woods, near the start and I'd just tentatively began to explore more of storm hill or whatever it's called and stick my nose west into the scarlet rot area which is C something, not Limgrave... Are folk doing all this first or just going for Margit? I'm only level 15 with a +3 uchi.

So many huge enemies! Seems like the game is fine with me valiantly galloping away on my steed. Also I found a/the well, there were crabs and suddenly some blue folks that almost one shot me with their blue arrows

This game really highlights, for me at least, how much map icon fatigue I have with open world games. I played Horizon ZD recently and when I opened the map, it felt like I was about to embark on a series of chores. I know this is vast but I'm comfortable knowing that I might not see everything and I can just do my own thing without a stat telling me I've only found 35% of what's on offer.
My personal qualm atm is that I'm finding the controls unintuitive. I'm repeatedly drinking flasks when I mean to crouch and I'm repeatedly crouching when I mean to sprint. The controls feel completely at odds with other games and you can only rebind a handful of the buttons.

See also: pressing select for map, then pressing it again gives you the map options, rather than closing the map. Nnnrghhh, that is so annoying.

The mook enemies are so passive - stand there when your'e targeting the guy next to them. They'd need to tune that a bit.
