I swear this degenerates into an easy mode discussion every month and it is as boring as my morning piss. It's not boring to me and anyone else who wants to discuss it. The thread was practically dormant anyway, so not sure what the point of the sass is. Adds nothing. Don't care, don't post

It is the most thrilling of all the pisses bar the “I’ve woken up in a strange place and I don’t know where the toilet is - I don’t want to burst into someone’s bedroom but these fuckers have closed all the doors” situation.

I don't care what other people do. I don't want to change the game for everyone. I want an experience like I've had for their 6 previous games. A reasonable challenge that doesn't need assists I just took your response as being a bit curt- everyone else is happy except me (apologies if not the case) I think Duffking is melee and doesn't like using summons, so he gets it. People keep talking about being able to play however you like, but the playstyle that I, and plenty of others, like has been made a lot less enjoyable in order to cater to two extremes (very easy and very hard). If someone doesn't care about skipping stuff or is happy to cheese things, that's fine but isn't really relevant I don't know what to say. Unfortunately I don't think they're going to cater to you anymore, ER was very successful and they wanted assists to onboard people not familiar with FromSoft style. I don't think it was implemented perfectly, I imagine it's very difficult to do so, they're not going to add difficulty settings as I guess it's their design philosophy so this is an uneven halfway house. Despite all that it's one of the most amazing experiences I've had in gaming with some great QoL improvements from their earlier games and a much more approachable game.

FWIW with my unga bunga Strength only build I've intentionally avoided summons and it's been going decently so far... Even managed the Volcano Manor Godskin Noble... with Sleep Pots, but I was underlevelled, rushing for the early Somber 7 and didn't feel like learning the bridge jump I still had to dodge plenty of attacks to actually knock it out though, including the Roll™!

For what it’s worth my brother is still trying to beat the tree sentinel at the start of the game. I tried to explain you can go around him but he’s like “no, they put him there because they want you do it first.”
He’s literally minded to a fault.

Ha. My mate did that. His brain broke a hit when I just said he could run past him and do it later.

FROM can always reiterate on the summon ashes idea on a next game to improve any flaws they deem necessary to be fixed, no one stopping them and maybe they'll get it right. Personally, I don't mind ashes and used them a ton (similar to throwables in "Lies of P"). I'd use any tool in my disposal when I'm playing these games, they are there for a reason...

Now my biggest complaint is making respec a consumable item cost.

Now my biggest complaint is making respec a consumable item cost. The one thing I think everyone can agree that Wo Long (and the Niohs technically, since you can just buy the item) did better. Edit: I'd mention Lies of P as well but the option becomes available much later than in most others, comparatively speaking

The bosses just generally aren't any good at dealing with multiple targets. The spirits end up either completely useless because they don't stay alive along enough, or trivialise the fight because they stay alive long enough and the bosses as mentioned before don't deal with multiple targets well. I’m pretty sure they don’t deal with multiple targets at all. They seem to just 100% focus on the last thing that hit them so you can keep lesser summons alive if you keep on it but if you’re good enough to do that you don’t really need the summon.

My second biggest biggest complaint is buffing outside the fog wall taking longer than the boss fight. Literally the most tedious, boring shit in any game ever made.

Problem with people clinging to this difficulty is everything philosophy is that they feel the need to keep moving further in that direction. That's why ER bosses are such bollocks. It's the complete lack of willingness/fear of any discussion of difficulty that is meaning more people are having to resort to the ever increasing assists they're putting in
There have been so many posts in here with people talking about the bosses being difficult due to completely lame reasons, not just difficulty, but unfairness. Rather than saying they should stop doing that, people will say, well you can use mimics. I don't get it. You didn't need them in previous games. This in an ER thing
I really don't understand how you can have people quoting him as saying without the difficulty there's no point and also quoting him saying he uses all the assists to make it easy (and people also using them and claiming that the challenge is crucial to the experience)

I can't really comment about buffing tbh. I just use my physick mix during a fight but don't do anything before. What are people doing to spend half an hour buffing before going into a fight?

I'm not allowed to talk about it because I only played it recently?
How many hours/playthroughs until I'm allowed an opinion

See what I mean. You'd think I was advocating for paedophiles the way people react. So many snippy little comments and shit because you don't like my thoughts about an aspect of a video game (that you all complain about the difficult of). Have a word

Eh?! You're talking as if you're opinions are not valid. They are. As are everyone else's. You don't like some aspects of the game some people do and vice versa. I personally disagree that their earlier games are a reasonable challenge. I think some assists would have been great in something like Bloodborne for new players. No one's scared of your opinions and you're very clearly sharing them, some agree and some disagree, no one thinks the game is perfect. I think maybe you need to chill a bit because you've gone 0 to 100 quick sharp.

Yeah. No one’s being savage here. We’re all friends. We’re cool.
I mean cool in the sense we’re having a spirited debate about Elden Ring. Not sure we’d get invited to the Met Gala or anything.
But if I did… Mushroom Armour Set.

In Elden Ring specifically? That's more for the "Drink Physick, Howl [of Shabriri], change talismans, Seppuku, Flame [Grant Me Strength], drink blue, [Golden] Vow, [Royal Knight's] Resolve..." *enters, two-shots boss* types. You know, like here!

iirc the Mimic Tear has a difficulty slider even- whatever kit you have on when summoned is what they use, so summon with no shield and then give yourself your shield back, etc. There’s a thousand ways to slice this game.
