I have a meeting starting in ten minutes. I will be late due to a toilet stop to do some reading. I have 2 tabs of google cloud open at work, and around 7 gaming tabs. Priorities. |

The old place has always liked From's Souls games, so that's not surprising.
It's more Sony's first party titles that they're surprisingly lukewarm about.

Heh, Push Square haven't given it a score as they didn't manage to finish it in time. They also complained about constant loading, poor pop in and inconsistent frame-rate. Reinforces my thoughts that FROM were going to struggle moving into an open world. It's to be expected really, and it doesn't put me off.

Gamespot's site seemed to shit the bed just as the review embargo lifted, and I'm still getting a 500: Internal Server Error 15 minutes later - it's probably a coincidence, but I'd like to think otherwise.

PC version looks lovely, albeit with pop-in and occasional stutter. Needs decent hardware though.
My old 1080 could never run this well at 2560x1440, glad I went PS5.

Ha. I love how old that animation is now. I have a funny feeling that this game will make all the Souls games feel like demos. Now we have the final product.

Wonder what the base PS4 will be like. Feel a bit bad that the boy will be playing on that, and I'll have the PS5.
I presume we'll get some digital foundry goodness at some point though.

RPS (my old place) has given a Bestest Best award. From the second paragraph:
"What Elden Ring provides is an adventure unlike anything else or anyone else's. An unmissable jaunt through one of, if not the most impressive open world to date."
Also has a tech piece that seems to indicate it runs fairly well, although changing the settings seem to do very little. Some stutter, which supposedly will be fixed by a day one patch. Also some complaints about it being rubbish for k+m users.
Surprisingly seems to give okay performance even on a 1060 and seems like I should be able to max it at 1440p with my 2080 super (they said steady 60fps max settings on 3070, which is about equivalent).

The status is 'shipped' on the site, but with no data stamp next to it so NFI if it was 'shipped' five minutes ago or five days ago. Not that I'm fussed - there were far too many 9/10s in those lists above. If it's not perfect 10s across the board I'm not sure I can even be bothered with this shit tbh. |
