I went to school with someone who I never learnt his real name. On his first day someone from an older year just shouted Dave at him, and it stuck throughout. Even the teachers called him Dave. The husband of one of my wife's friends is called Tom. Except I didn't learn that wasn't his actual name for years. Apparently there was another bloke called Dave at the halls his (then gf) stayed on so he became Tom. Even his wife calls him Tom. Can't claim to have started it but I did go to school with a kid called spade. Despite being the Isle of Wight, it wasn't racial (he was white anyway). He just looked like he'd been smacked in the face with a spade. |
