I bought a plug in bug zapper with a UV light to put on in the kitchen so we can have the door open at night. It basically sounds like raiden is out there, had no idea we had so many flying things coming in at night.

You haven't seen insects until you've seen the outer stairs of our hotel at Naxos about 15 years ago fucking smothered with dizzy, half-dead buzzers all around the small lights they kept on at night The swarms are there everywhere, we just (typically) don't notice them all that much

Those little electric tennis racket type swatters you can buy in Greece are great fun.

Thankfully they're not doing the massive gap between US and worldwide airing of The Bear episodes now. Looking forward to binging that over the next few days.

Didn't realise The Bear was out already, thought it was the end of summer.
Great news.

I was today years old when I learned that Peter Sarsgaard is not actually called Peter Skarsgard and is American and not part of a large Swedish acting mafia.
Huh. How bout that.

Not having my best day today, but a spam email from somebody pretending to be EVRi just sent me an email saying they miss me. It’s obviously a typo, but I’ll take it.

I'm starting to disengage from the news and perhaps selfishly trying to stop it 'getting to me'.
I've been in deep over the last ten years plus as we've had a slew of horrible events/stories - Brexit, Tories, Covid, Ukraine, Trump, Climate etc. I followed everything in detail and despite being more informed all I do is feel like shit by keeping up with current events. It's not made my life or mood better in any way, just a general feeling of powerlessness.
Probably just need a break or to cut back but it's really getting to me lately.

I used to be like that when I was a bit younger. Just read it to stay abreast of current events but don't let it get to you, life's too short to get het up over it 😊

I go through periods of ignoring news. Have to say I'm happier when I do. I personally don't believe there's any kind of responsibility or duty to keep up to date, especially if it's harming mental wellbeing.
I haven't properly watched any news broadcasts for quite a long time. It's perhaps damning that I get most of my current event updates from threads this forum.
I've purposefully stopped following national and international news or politics pages on what little social media I use, and at best I just glance over headlines a couple of times a week.
Currently I'm still feeling too much anxiety so might even take a step further back for a bit.

This shity weather has really got to my Mrs. She wants to move back to Greece - and I don't think I can handle going through all that again.

True, but brexit means I’d need a visa and property never works out for me over there and I’ve only recently bought a place here and sunk loads in which I won’t recoup and and and.
But fuck it, I’ll probably go for it.

Do you not get spousal preferential rights? My wife is desperate to retire to Greece (based on 3 years as a late teen on Cyprus, when her dad was posted there...) but it all feels like such a battle and minefield.

My brother lives out in Cyprus. To me it looks boring as hell. He tells me there's nothing really to do other than walks and it's incredibly sunny, but he loves it. I'm a man of culture. I like to travel about and see history etc. As much as the UK is fairly shit, it has some lovely places to visit.
Also I've lived in Denmark and having grown up in England I missed a tonne of stuff they don't have over there. Again it's a flat country, with not a lot to do really.
Anyway my plan for the next few years is to buy a VW Transporter and drive up and down the UK with my partner and dog. There's so many nice spots about.
