He was good as Stan, but obviously that's a comedic role anyway. Definitely brave of him to try.

I would like to believe they're going to expose the enablers, but who would they name, how would it be portrayed? It's definitely a very important story but I have no faith it will be done in a way that won't be a hand in heads moment, especially when you take into account Saville himself was a character that he created as a mask, seeing it in a dramatisation has the high possiblity of coming off as very crass. I'm more than happy to be proved wrong when it comes out.

I've no idea how you could do this in such a way that it doesn't make it a joke. Saville was like a walking pantomime so it will probably end up looking like someone doing a parody impression.

This is why I think Coogan is a good choice. He was a walking pantomime in his professional life and Coogan can obviously nail that but I think he has got the chops to just flick the switch to evil sex pest. I genuinely think he will nail it.

Just have droning dissonant note in the soundtrack whilst Saville is being a clown and it'll create a powerful sense of dread. The longer the note the greater the dread.

I might be being a bit cynical, but this sounds like the BBC getting in with their view of things before anyone else gets in with a more damaging version. Hopefully I'm wrong and Coogan wouldn't be in something like that.
/Edit though there's been long enough for others to do something like this, so maybe not.

Accentuate the ingenuity and ability to operate of Saville so as to limit the responsibility of the people that facilitated him you mean?

I don't think Coogan will be the problem, I think he'll be very decent in the role. It's more how willing they are to go into the root and branch stuff as mentioned by others. If they are then it's definitely a story worth telling. I'd be really surprised to see them going for anything other than the low hanging fruit though.

That doesn't sound a million miles away from something they might have pitched before League of Gentlemen got picked up.

I think from the perspective of victims, it's just really insensitive. I can imagine hearing about Coogan's incredible performance as Jimmy Savile being very upsetting. If it's being created to shine a light on the enablers, etc, don't do it in a way that has the potential for being lauded for the wrong reasons.

I do like that even now most people still spell his name wrong. Hopefully the new BBC thing won't change that

I've just remembered I'd actually drawn a picture of him back in the early days if anyone would like to see it. It's not my proudest moment.

Coogan is the perfect choice imo, but I also feel it's kinda still a bit too soon and a tad insensitive for the BBC to make their own drama - starring someone who is primarily known as a comedian and satirist - considering all the backlash they've received over the past decade for covering up his crimes?
