My dad went to school in Ripley with Clapton (who was in the year below) and still remembers being one of the lads giving him stick for playing his guitar like billy no mates under the tree in the middle of the play area rather than playing footy like the other lads.
Probably a bit late to apologise now but there you go!

Solid performances up at Highways festival last night. The Cadillac Three, Shane Smith & The Saints and Bowen*Young all good sets (TC3 surprisingly heavy southern county rock set to headline). Stand out for me though was Tanner Usrey who was terrific and I wish was headlining… this lad is gold and is going to go far! For fans of new age Americana acts like Jackson Dean and Brothers Osborne… his album Crossing Lines is very good! www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhzZL5U-49Q&list=PLqI2bhX0lEx7f8sYtfvgdd3gLN0NR8pd8

Considering this whole event was put on for the radio and they’re as big as a band can be the mix on this Radio 1 Coldplay show on tv right now sounds like absolute mud. Everything is completely buried. You’d think they’d have this kind of thing nailed after all this time.
The vocals absolutely drowning in reverb isn’t helping matters either.

Weirdly, the visuals were messed up on the streaming as well. I think it was the color balance. Everything was Yellow..

I actually like Coldplay (there I said it) but mostly classic Coldplay original trilogy albums. Music of the Spheres album while I realise is targeted at other international markets (Asian?) and 30 second attention span TicTok yoof is in my opinion almost complete balls. Terrible/10
I used to respect Chris Martin and co they have written some indie pop classics along the way but imo they’ve turned into try too hard dads who instead of growing old gracefully are trying to be at one with the cool kids and it’s mostly cringe. Still guess if I was 16 again maybe I’d be more into them still. Then again probably not. Can’t deny they still have a live buzz about them quite masterfully crafted at times but the new stuff just pass the bucket.
I do admire them for trying to push forward kinetic dance floors and making touring more sustainable. Great idea and wish large concert venues went forward with them!

They played one song about lions that had a big distorted Black Rebel Motorcycle Club style riff in it that was very much dads getting together to jam like the old days.
That said, I don’t think there’s a better band around for capturing big broadbrush emotions at such a large scale. And having not heard it in years that performance of Clocks did manage to conjure up some of the drama a lot of that album had before it was played to death and ground into musical wallpaper.

I hate ticket touting BUT as long as there are idiots willing to use them then that's their issue... the only valid argument affecting us all is that the hyperinflation by touting leads to higher set standard pricing for events.
It's just open market economics at the end of the day.
But this sort of collusive planning does stink though. But corruption? As old as them hills and always will be...

Out of interest, do they use lotteries a lot for ticket sales in the UK these days?
I haven't been to a gig for a decade, but this year I'm finally in a situation where I can go again, and I was a bit surprised to find that most tickets over here are done by lottery. 1-2week application period and then you find out after that if you've won. Means everything doesn't sell out in the first 10 seconds while crashing the website, so it seems like a decent system.

It seems like a great idea imho. Though my opinion on that might change when I get the result on one tomorrow. Of course, they still find ways to nickle-and-dime you through a bunch of fees, and give advance entry / bonus chances to people based on various memberships / credit card brands, etc.. so it's not as clear and simple as it could be.

No offense but I think that’s a bit short sighted - touts and in relation to good scalpers also massively reduce available stock to those that want to buy honestly. Seems likely many eBay types will likely not be paying proper tax either. There is absolutely no reason to have people insert themselves into these situations as unwanted middlemen, using bots to prevent actual customers even being able to access the ticket/product. To hell with them IMO.

It seems that most bands I see play at o2 venues and it’s easy to get tickets through o2 Priority before general sale. One of the main reasons I stay with o2 really.

Didn't get the tickets I wanted, so I've now changed my mind and think doing it by lottery is dumb!
There is a second round lottery starting today, but I'm guessing the odds for that one are even smaller.

Saw Sam Campbell this evening. One of the funniest big comedy shows I think I’ve ever seen. Feels more like something that should be running as a late night Edinburgh show than a touring theatre gig.

Shame that the nearest o2 venue to me, the Bristol o2 Academy, is one of the worst venues in the city. Horrible layout, awful sound, awful prices inside. There have been artists who I've considered seeing but decided against after seeing that the venue was the academy. The only thing going for it is that on paper it can hold a bigger audience (though thanks to it's shit layout it's not a great experience, and they like to really squeeze people in, to the point where it feels actually dangerous). Thankfully SWX and now the Bristol Beacon can host similar size acts and provide some competition.

Got tickets to see Thom Yorke's solo show in Melbourne in October! \o/ Playing songs from across his whole career apparently. Nice to be able to see one of my favourite acts down under, a rare thing.

Agreed. My angle was if everyone just did not use them they would not exist. Unfortunately idiots use them… I get it yep, but it’s chicken and egg - when they’ve gobbled up all the available stock using technology to not only increase their chances but decrease or eliminate yours, you may have no choice if you feel you *need* what they’ve prevented you buying. Legislature and technology are both needed to stamp it out. I suspect it’s one of those where the scalpers will always be ahead/able to react on tech though. I have never used one FWIW and never will.

Vicarious here because it was a friend, who didn’t even really know them and was subbed in for somebody else at the last minute, but heard very meh reports about Jane’s Addiction in Manchester this week. I’ve been provided with a couple of videos and apparently they sound better than it did on the night but they are still not great! Just a big wash of reverb and distortion. Was apparently just white noise on the night. I do think Perry Farrel is one of the worst singers ever in a big act though anyway.

I have a friend who watched Jane's both at Bearded Theory and The Roundhouse the other week and said only positive things - though squeeky Farrel was mentioned in passing too.
