Sorted Moonlight Butterfly. Decided to give the scythe a whirl. That's fun. Ridiculous reach. Just discovered some old doors in Undead Burg I hadn't unlocked, one of which eventually led me to the Capra Demon whom I instantly got mailed by. Enough for this evening. Figure him out tmrw but his dogs look like real assholes.

The area behind that door is a farming-souls spot, if you are so inclined, as the -quite hard, but dumb- enemies that respawn there drop about 8k per run and there's a hidden bonfire right next to the door...

The most important reason to go through that door is to join my favourite little PvP covenant (although I'm not sure how busy it will be any more...)

Honestly you lot, let Tomo experience it for the first time without advice about everything!
Capra is in my opinion the worst boss in all of FromSoftware's souls games, and his led to many a player giving up just due to the ganky shitness of it. The game only gets better from then on, so don't let his encounter's poor design put you off.
Edit. I am aware that my first comment was swiftly followed by advice, ha ha.

Capra is a terrible boss and I probably would agree it is the worst From boss. Even Bed of Chaos is at least trying to do something different. Capra just forces you to do basically the same thing to beat him, no matter what type of character you are (I guess Bed does too, but it is still trying to be a novel boss, even if the execution is poor).
Not sure what it is about the first Dark Souls, but reading other people play it always makes me want to play it. Bloodborne does the same. As much as I like Elden Ring and may have been my favourite first run of any From game, I've had little urge to return to it for repeat plays.

I think there's something to say for DS1's immediacy for replays. I think it's relatively easy to just boot up and get going. I'm currently making my way through Elden Ring, and while I'm having a great time with it (I'm playing with the Persistant Coop Mod), it just feels vast.

Yeah definitely that for me too, re the immediacy. I've only got to read this thread for a few minutes and I'm always tempted to roll a new char. Master key, whizz down to the basin, grab a halberd, farm boulder knights, get the 20k door open, farm those goons and you're off

The first time I managed to kill Capra's dogs, I then killed him straight away.
Think battling through the Catacombs without a Divine weapon was a) a stupid thing to do, especially as since then I've had two traders tell me to take divine gear to stop the skellies respawning, and b) the wrong order to do things in โ felt quite OP v Capra; basically picked him off by waiting for him to swing and boffing him with my scythe.
One hits on all the goons in Depths too. Also finally found the sorcerer chap and now have magic other than my Pyro fireball. I've got a nice balance between fairly damaging weapon and ranged attack. Nice combo.

The Bell Gargoyles are the worst boss for me so far. Still not done them. Reminds me of that fucking double gorilla fight in Sekiro, which was absolute arse. Throwing multiple bosses at you effectively feels like an abuse of their own game mechanics, which are setup mainly for one-on-one fights, or a bit of crowd control with weaker enemies. It's like those fucking skeleton wheels in Catacombs. The moment two or three of those are rolling around, you're a goner.

Re gargoyles, there's a bit of a pattern depending how you do it.
If you go into human form, and go to the fog gate, you can summon solaire from his summon sign on the floor near the door.
Go in with him and let him do whatever and you focus 100% on killing the first ones tail. Don't lock on, just get yourself in position to chop it off. This will fuck it right up and should give you time to kill it before the second one appears.
For the second one, just keep circling it and when you see flame, just keep circle strafing and whack fuck at it.

Always seemed like you're suppose to do Catacombs early as Pinwheel is a complete pushover otherwise
Capra is just dead easy. It's only the dogs that make life hard. Reckon they realised he was too easy and stuck adds in

I'm currently making my way through Elden Ring, and while I'm having a great time with it (I'm playing with the Persistant Coop Mod), it just feels vast. This is it for me too- when I was re-installing the other day, I had a moment of thinking โholy shit, I just downloaded and installed a 7Gb game and got to my old save in about 5 minutesโ Even if youโve cleared out old games because you need the disk space, itโs trivial to uninstall something else* and jump straight back in. And I know for DS1 specifically Iโll be able to pick up wherever I left off (or do a re-roll) really easily. *I uninstalled Elden Ring. Still not finished it. Sure Iโll get there one day.

I'm a bit weird and always liked the Bed of Chaos. The first time I couldn't not appreciate the escalating panic of what was happening to the floor coupled with the reveal of the Chaos Flame, its creepy scream and increasing attack repertoire. Having it end how it does, showing what the Witch had finally become was also as memorable as King Alant's final reveal to me.
On repeat playthroughs I had assumed that all its crappiness would come to the fore, but still that wasn't the case. Any video I watch of people fighting that battle has them running madly and jumping over pits without the one thing they would normally do with ANY OTHER BOSS: watch it to see its tells. Watch the damn thing then you know what it will do! Tank those arms first one way then the other as they sweep if you have the poise/good shield, or wait and run at the right time, stopping in safe(ish) points just outside the arms reach. No jumping is required, even with that last drop.
While certainly not a top tier boss, I only rail against the almost universal opinion that it is one of the worst bosses ever for my above reasons.
Capra is shite not just because of the dogs and tiny arena. The music is awful, though the discordant mess suits the Centipede Demon who shares his theme; and the boss itself is just dull to fight one on one. It is the only humanoid enemy that can't be parried or backstabbed...why?! You therefore have to either A) tediously run in circles attempting to repeatedly drop attack him off the stairs B) dodge roll his attacks, something made frustrating by both his ridiculous tracking on some of his bigger hits and that damn tree getting in the way, or C) poise up and tank his hits on a massive shield, not exactly a riveting way to do it but gets the job done. Oh and D) throw actual crap at him over the fog door. He deserves it. Meeting multiple version of him later highlight how dull he is to fight as I can guarantee you are already bored fighting him by the second or third one in a row of that long queue of wretched Capras.
Sorry if I have banged on about this before, I can't exactly recall.

Capra is funny though. Bed of Chaos is just tedious and poorly designed. I imagine people play it that way because they just want it to be over. It's not a fight, it's a puzzle boss and they're lame. I'm pretty sure the hit detection on her arms is complete bollocks as well

I rolled a new character in DS1 remaster because I realised Iโd left my STR bandit-knight guy back on my x360 save, and only had a DEX character with Uchi on the remastered version. Iโve been playing โblindโ and just trying to remember where to go- bearing in mind I only completed it once on x360 and once on XBone, never managed multiple rerolls or NG+. I know my way around, but maybe not what order to do things in. Anyway, I did the gargoyles and figured Iโd go back to the Undead Asylum for a look around. That was a mistake- Iโm getting absolutely walloped by Stray Demon and doing sod all damage in return, with my basic un-upgraded club. Guess Iโve lost the humanity and souls I was carrying. I was going to try the skeleton path next but Iโm a bit scared, might upgrade my stuff and try the gardens instead. Edit- nvm, fucked up the skellies and got the Zweihander

Use a weapon with bleed chance, stray demon is very weak against it, three or four hits and he loses a big chunk of life.

You're pretty early for Stray Demon if you're rusty. You won't need the reward for a while.
