Yeah I'm not sure it's the easiest. Some the decent miracles are late on and cost a lot. Ever done a black Knight halberd run? They're fun. Got one on the go at the minute Or occult / chaos with a bit of dex? That's quite an unusual one but can be all sorts of fun. Chaos shovels +5 are legendary. I could also settle for a high Faith build and any interesting weapons that scale well with it (and they will be useful in the catacombs anyway). No axes though, or it would be basically the same as before. Maybe something with high dexterity scaling too.

If you want decent faith weapons, then you need the dark moon blade. You can put that on most weapons, clubs, bss, anything you want really. I can't think of any inherently good faith weapons on their own, hence using dark moon blade on your weapon of choice

Can always just use firebombs or pyromancies before you get to the decent miracles.

Maybe I could try a standard spear run, and then upgrade it to a Dragonslayer Spear when I have the chance. Might take a while though.
If I pair it with a shield, I might also use the chance to actually learn to use one. A shield run would definitely be new for me. Haven't used one since the import version of Demon's Souls.
Alright, spear and shield it is. Very Monster Hunter-ish too, as a veteran Lance user.
I can focus mostly on Faith and Dexterity, my life might be a little harder at first, but it could pay off later.

Velka's Rapier uses Faith/Dex and is a great weapon. Can't get it until the Painted World though. Actually I'm not sure if it's Faith, might be the other one. It's still a great weapon though

Miracle run only really works in NG+, until then you basically dabble in it while rocking a holy claymore and a lightning bastard sword

Doing decently for now. I see why many favour shields. I defeated the Black Knight without getting hit once. But it doesn't seem as effective against big monsters.
Let's keep going and see how it goes.

It's still a great weapon though Velka's is indeed Dex/Int, but you can get Grant, the Str/Fth great hammer from Paladin Leeroy. You can put that on a regen build and facetank stuff while you smash them into the ground, it's great fun.

Astora's Straight Sword can be gotten as soon as you reach Lordran, if you started with the master key. It's in front of the Undead Dragon in Valley of the Drakes, and it scales off dex and faith, and has low requirements. It does pretty decent combined phys/magic damage.

Astora's Sword is a good call, but I'm getting the hang of this spear, so I guess I'll go for this.
Now it's only a matter of choosing whether to upgrade it to a Dragonslayer Spear, which has some hefty requirements and lower base stats, but better scaling. Or go for the Divine path, which has better stats and will work against skeletons, but scaling isn't that great.
I can revert a weapon after it's been upgraded, right? I can't remember if Palestones were only introduced in DS2.
Mind, a second standard spear should be easy to find, and large titanite is just a matter of grinding a few slugs anyway...
I'm also getting the hang of the shield for blocking (I'm still using the starter one), but for the life of me, I just can't get down the timing for parries.

Palestones probably introduced in DS2, because I've never seen one and have finished the game.
I just started a Faith char and Astora's Straight Sword is amazing early game. I got it to +3 already, because the lizards from burg and darkroot both dropped two twinkling titanite. The strong attack is also a nice fast stab with good reach, so yeah, it's really pretty good.
Only C scaling, though, so will probably be outclassed late game by a good dex weapon. Hard to say, though, because you get the faith scaling basically for free.

I'm telling you, get dark moon blade! You can put it on your weapon of choice. It'll shit on the other faith weapons

Astoras is great at the start but like the dragon sword, it soon gets dwarfed

Suppose. But you don't get the full faith damage till much later. Still, fuck it, I still say go for a chaos shotel build

Yeah, farming crow demons sounds like a pain. And I don't really wanna stay in the Darkmoon Covenant. I could get Sunlight Blade much more easily.
Realistically, is it a good idea to go for a weapon with better scaling in NG? Usually the game ends at around level 80-85. My stats aren't gonna be that high, especially if I have to divide them between faith, attunement and dexterity, and maybe a bit in endurance and vitality too. And some strength, if I choose to go for the Dragonslayer Spear. Since I'm not gonna go on to NG+, maybe it would be better to stick with a weapon with higher base stats instead?
Getting enough sunlight medals for the attack miracles is gonna be a pain too. I don't wanna have to kite the hydra with arrows.

What's so hard about getting sunlight medals? There's got to be hundreds of people who want to summon you for bosses, and you only need 10 for the miracles.

I'm playing the 360 version, and it does look somewhat unpopulated at this point. So I'd have to farm chaos bugs instead. Not sure I can be bothered.
I'll give it a try though. Which bossed do people tend to summon most often for?

I might not be the best for Dark Soul advice. It's just my favourite weapon that hardly anyone seems to talk about so I think more people should use it. It didn't even make it into any of the sequels - maybe we can get it into Elden Ring 2. Velka is also one of the bits of lore I find most interesting

Which bossed do people tend to summon most often for? Bell Gargoyles at a low SL is a good place to get regularly summoned However when I play DS these days it’s much harder to get summoned, very few players need help

You also get sunlight medals when you summon Alistaire for a fight and he doesn't die, right?

Solaire? Yeah, but you don't get many chances to summon him. I'm gonna need 10 medals, so I have no choice but to farm bugs, I guess.
Meanwhile, for now I have both a Spear+10 and a Divine Partisan+5. I don't think either will be very useful in Sen's Fortress though.
I should also think about switching to a great shield. No real point in using a standard shield if I'm not going to parry.

Any reason you're not playing the remastered one on your S?

Yeah, you get 1 from Lautrec, 3 from a chest in Anor Londo, and you can summon Solaire (Alistaire? LOL) 6 times, but he probably won't survive all those fights. Also, one of those 6 times is Gwyn, so really only 5 times that matter. But making him survive Gaping Dragon and O&S is probably pretty hard.

Why would you want to save Alistaire

I already missed two chances to summon Solaire, and I forgot to talk to Lautrec before he offed the fire keeper and escaped in his world, so I'm gonna need to farm chaos bugs for sure. On the plus side, I do have lots of humanity, so I could join the spider's covenant and open the door there... would make farming bugs a lot easier. Don't really care about saving Solaire this time, but if I'm gonna go there, I might as well. Just in case Gwyn proves too much to handle. Would be easier if I just learned how to parry though. Why can't I get the timing right? Think I gotta parry an instant before the enemy attack connects, but the window seems incredibly small. Any reason you're not playing the remastered one on your S? Because the 360 version was the one I already had. Don't underestimate cheapness. If there's one thing even From could never account for, it's miserly players like me.

That's alright man, I've bought enough copies to balance out your miserlyness.
