Just trying it now. Christ, these controls feel awful, it's got some acceleration in the controls and is either too heavy or too fast.
Also I'm not a massive graphics whore but it looks quite last gen if I'm being brutally honest which is crazy as Deathloop looked really nice.

It's not even out for last gen is it? I was kind of hoping it was for once so I could buy it on the One if it wasn't shite. Nothing I've seen of it screams current gen either.

No, it's purely current gen. You couldn't tell though. I've been playing for about an hour and it feels...lifeless. It just doesn't come across as a big first party game at all, no one's getting a Xbox for this.

Such a shame. Like I say, even though I'm a bit miffed it's not on PS, I'm a massive Arkane fan and it's really disheartening to see that they may have put out a dud.

I love the idea is the console but it should have just been a digital only version of the X.

If the s was holding it back then the X should hit 60 with ease. Games are going through a huge phase of being badly optimised at launch and hopefully it pushes people away from pre ordering.

As Frog says if the S is holding it back why isn't the X running at 60fps. The gameplay is bang average, the AI is non existent frankly and the challenge is quite low, all things with have nothing to do with the specs of the S. Move away from the shiny stuff and there's nothing here that would convince people to buy an Xbox. I honestly can't believe it's an Arkane game.

This is why find reviews with scores unhelpful and ultimately ridiculous. If we're working with the standard interpretation then you would believe that 4/10 represents a fundamentally broken game in gameplay or performance. That is not this game, it has bugs but nothing egregious, it's biggest crime is it being so average that it doesn't create any strong feelings within the player a game that you'll play on autopilot with no feelings of investment.

Well I have zero guilt having persuaded three people to buy this game on pc to play it with me. .

Played the first mission and partly into the second mission. Like it so far. It controls nicely and thankfully the aiming is nice on controller.

Coming up to 90 mins. I'm guessing a solid 7 by the end of the co op run.

Donlan's review-in-progress at EG is critical but overall fairly positive; despite the jank, he's clearly getting something out of the vibe of the game.
Best part: "there's no ducking the fact that my wife came into the room when I was playing, looked at the screen in horror and said, "Jesus! What happened to Fortnite?""
I'm going to have a cheeky half hour session now before I get ready for work...

Reminds me of "We Happy Few" and "No Man's Sky" and how they suddenly turned into AAA-priced games without there being all that much justification for it. Certainly on release.
Even ignoring how half-baked it seems to be and even ignoring the performance issues and many bugs, looking at the (mostly) surprisingly lacking visuals and also looking at the requirements, I honestly don't get it... 100 GB harddrive space... for what?!?

I just played the first bit - up until some achievements unlock, to keep it vague. I enjoyed that slice of it. Out of context it feels like a fairly decent and atmospheric AA loot shooter. The setting feels like it has potential.
I came away feeling there's fun to be had here and it's far from shit... but that's not exactly a ringing endorsement given the context and expectations.

That feels about right although as mentioned I've only dipped my toes in. I think my main concern is how repetitive it will get.

I noticed that this is developed by Arkane Austin. No idea how Arkane is structured, but are we to assume that Arkane Lyon had no hand in this, other than maybe a few people assisting to get it over the line?
I think Austin has only developed Prey before this, a game I loved, but was definitely filled with jank and had issues I'm sure that put a lot of people off it. This doesn't look anywhere near as interesting gameplay-wise to overcome the technical side, but makes me wonder if Austin is a little bit of the b-team of Arkane.

I have tried to play Prey a few times and I just don't like it very much. I can appreciate some of the stuff it does but I just don't think it plays well.

Don't they have a bunch of people from Looking Glass? Feels like the wrong kind of project for them to tackle.

I can see a State of Decay Juggernaut style upgrade within a year. So enjoying it and not come across any bad bugs or glitches.

I can see it underperforming and post launch support getting moved on to other stuff within a few months.

There are definitely a lot of bugs, ACG's review shows a lot of AI being unresponsive and getting stuck on things. Doesn't look unsaveable but it's the latest in a year where almost everything that's released is an undercooked mess at launch. It's a genuine surprise when something polished like RE 4 pops up now.

I can see it underperforming and post launch support getting moved on to other stuff within a few months. Maybe but MS seem more willing to invest with Recore, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves, MCC and so on getting pretty meaty upgrades long after release rather than just let them quietly die. It also shows the happy trend of release now fix later which needs to be sorted in this industry.

Don't know why but I expected this to be fairly well polished and at the very least a very solid effort. Looks like it's quite a disappointment in many areas. I'll defintely give it a try but no longer worried about trying to finish Ragnarok asap to get this in before BOTW2 is out next week.

Imagine how fucked it would've been if they were releasing on PS5 as well. :/
Redfall was never going to carry the flag for MS first party offerings this year, but like Hi-Fi Rush it could certainly have started building momentum!

It's strange because I don't feel it was big enough to have to be forced out right now - it could have been delayed until late summer for some extra polish. Perhaps they pruposefully decided to bury it a bit between Jedi Survivor and Zelda.
Edit: I'm mainly bummed that this seems to not be up to Arkane normal standards and I thought the setting was great. Prey was received fairly lukewarm but I thought it was excellent so I'll always add a little bit of extra anticipation for Arkane. Particularly when I so heavily doubted Deathloop prior to release, thinking it was going to be a weird rogue like thing lacking in story and genuine SP elements and then it ended up being a complete treat.
