So you don't have to do all the rooms in that 4th area? I've actually found the 3rd okay so far. Don't know if the spear is just a natural weakness for the enemies there but the only real trouble I've had is with the boss in there. Damage over time is useful for Theseus. A hit is guaranteed after he walks away, so DoT is handy for when he starts guarding again. And, yes, the 4th level is risk/reward. If you find the dog food on your first go, you have to balance extra resources against possibly dying again. You can find shops in the levels which often have an extra life restock in there so it can also turn a bad run, too.

When you git gud, how long can a full run take? 30-40 minutes. When you start regularly getting to Hades you will be on 40 minutes a run, a bit less if you fluke a god build. Should be way faster than this once you start using trinkets/companions to force certain builds.

Hence 'when you regularly start getting to hades'. It takes ages to get companions and/or level your gear up enough to regularly get sub 30 minutes.

I absolutely murdered him yesterday with 3x leveled up Festive Fog, a blade rift dropped from my dash and a spear throw as he walked away. I do feel kinda cheap hiding behind the pillars as much as I do with him though.

My favoured way to deal with Theseus is to just ignore him and kill the Minotaur first. He only goes into his rage state at 50% health, so I usually have a good Call by that point that I can just use to absolutely fuck him. Also like to drop companion bouldy on his head at this point too but that's late game stuff.
If you can manage having them both there and you don't have a good damage dealing call it's worth trying to whittle them both down roughly equally so they're almost dead when they enrage, but I always found it easier to just focus one down.

Yeah I always go Minotaur first. Usually by accident, admittedly, as he's the one chasing me and making me panic.

Its much harder to deal with both of them if you aggro theseus first.

Seen about upgrading weapons, think I missed that bit of text in the game.
How do you upgrade them?

You've apparently got to buy all the weapons to start upgrading.

You've apparently got to buy all the weapons to start upgrading. I believe (though am not 100% sure, it's been a while) that you might need to beat the game once in order to really get into upgrading.

Once you get all the weapons you can then use blood to upgrade them.
There are then kind of mini-quests to unlock the weapon aspects which are basically alt versions of them.

Once you do unlock weapon upgrading and have cleared a run for the first time, here's some advice on Titan Blood: You get one Titan Blood for beating a Fury, and one Titan Blood for beating the end boss, per weapon. This means you can get 12 Titan Blood before ever touching Heat.
When you enable Heat, you can get 2 more Titan Blood per weapon from the same sources, per heat level. So go up to 1 heat, and you can claim 12 more Titan Blood. Go to 2 heat, that's 12 more, etc. As a rule of thumb it's worth trying to clear with every weapon before going to Heat 1 if you can, then clear Heat 1 with every weapon before Heat 2, etc etc.
But, if you're hurting for Titan Blood, remember that you only need to clear the first floor to claim a weapon's first Titan Blood. Even with a lot of modifiers on you can easily clear the first floor, so if you want to farm a shitload of Titan blood just add 1 heat, beat the first boss with each weapon, add one more heat, repeat etc until it gets too much.

You can also fish for it and trade it for ambrosia at the shop (which is helpful as ambrosia starts really stacking up when you get further into the game). I think you can swap keys for it occasionally, too.
There are lots of ways to earn it, so dont hoard it, basically.

I played a little of this on someone else's Switch and relied on the spear, managed one escape but found it quite difficult and scraped through the one success. I've completely ignored it this time round and had a couple of great complete runs first with the shield and then the rail, which I made it through without needing revives because the attack output was ridiculous, something like 500% special damage in the end. Shield feels really cheesy being able to block almost every attack, and then turn that block into an attack.
I'm enjoying it a lot more this time round, focusing much more on builds and experimenting with different weapons. It's really good.

A good no brainer route is the rail's form that lets you shoot yourself with the bomb to increase your regular damage. As long as you don't take the hammer that makes the bomb do self damage. Then things get awks.

My first clear (maybe clears) was with the rail. I picked up the hammer that turns your secondary shot into a missile and that combined with the right secondary boons is as easy as early runs get, especially if you also get the three shot secondary hammer.
Its probably the hardest weapon to use if your boons arent stacking up but if they do, its pretty deadly.

This game is like digital crack. Went on for a quick go this morning and six hours later… Unlocked all the weapons but favour the spear especially with a deflect and Zeus lightning buff. Superb game

Bought it on Switch at Christmas and while I’ve only put a few hours in, I’ve not even beaten the first area 🥺
Let me see if the meatier thumb sticks on the Xbox controller allow me to get a bit further

But this one of those games where, once you "get" it, you'll be rinsing the first area and not even remembering how hard you found it at first.

Finally used the bow and the shield and wish I had earlier. They can absolutely destroy everything while keeping a good range.
Got the 3rd bosses down to a slither of health before they took me out. Got the fists unlocked now so hopefully they're as fun to use.

Tip for the shield: you deflect most (all?) attacks when you are charging up your primary attack and you can dash cancel out of it.
It took embarrassingly long for me to figure that out but it makes the bullet hell sections a lot easier

After agonising on what to spend titan blood on, I opted for the bow with an aspect that makes the volley seek the last target you hit. It felt pretty weak at first, but once I'd chosen a boon that increased the number of arrows back up to 8 it absolutely wrecked. Someone upthread mentioned that it might have been nerfed because it was seen as OP, but it still felt pretty decent up to the second boss.
Speaking of which, do the bosses change after you've defeated them once? I didn't notice anything with Meg, but I'm sure Bone Hydra was chucking extra enemies at me the second time, whereas the first time it was just big one plus little ones

But you can discover that on your own. Aside from that, there are modifiers you can use to change all the bosses up a bit. But that's more of an optional thing.

You mean Darkness for the mirror? When you get a choice of rooms there are 2 pools, Pool A and Pool B Pool A: God Boon Pom of Power Health Hammer Money Pool B: Gems Darkness Nectar Keys
Shops/Hermes can show with either pool IIRC, so I generally don't visit shops unless it's pool B on the other doors.
If you have doors from pool B, early on I suggest the following priority, generally. Don't stick too rigidly to it: Keys -> Darkness -> Gems -> Nectar You basically want to get the mirror/weapons opened up as soon as you can so that you can stop picking keys altogether or only taking them to trade back home. Try to pick up at least 1 nectar a run though just so you can get all the trinkets.
