Mexico, eh? I'm looking forward to the biomes, but I'm almost hoping for a little less? FH2 was my favourite in the series; I felt overwhelmed with FH3, and thought the environment a bit "meh"; and FH4 had so much content I got nowhere near finishing, let alone spending much time in multiplayer.

Hoping for "less" is probably folly, but I'm sure it'll be good fun regardless. I've also barely scratched the surface of 3 or 4 really, despite pumping dozens of hours into them.

The game elements look identical to 4, so it's all just a pretty up.

Seasons are still in it - saw that mentioned on the latest “let’s go” they did.

Mexico looks really good on Forza Horizon 5 and I'm glad to be finally visiting Virtual Central America in what isn't either just a couple of tracks in Baja California or as a location you visit in any other game because 'this is where the drugs happen, right?'.
Forza Horizon was very overwhelming for me as well (jumped straight into 4) but I think if you don't look at it as a game that you have to "finish" at some point but just as a 'sunday driving' experience it helps immensely.

Nice to see a Mexico that isn’t just “desert with a sepia filter” as well.

I love horizon games, they are pretty much my perfect driving games. I get the too big criticism as they can be quite overwhelming but the actually racing is great. I love the showcase events as well even though they are scripted.

FH4 was my first Horizon. I very quickly lost any interest in the races on account of the structurelessness, but hunting out barn finds, doing the story series, visiting all the beauty spots and properties, a bit of board hunting and just driving down unvisited roads was all great.
Basically any activities that give an excuse to just explore the map, which is a beautiful thing to spend time in.

Hoping they got rid of all the dress up avatar items on wheel spins, pain when you got 3 useless tat clothing items
The game does need better structure to the career, its become race what ever car you have from the start. I am looking forward to it but each time since 2, the game has got less major improvements, maybe improve the one on one races as its been the same thing since the first game

The kids also enjoy painting a car a lurid colour then just driving it through fields. The races (except the scripted ones, they're fun,) I could largely take or leave. The new console gen should make the PC version shinier too.

Forza Horizon 3 and Forza Horizon 4 were really fun. So I have no doubt I'll have a ot of fun with this too.

I loved FH3 and played it to death.
I own FH4 but got bored of it quite quickly. It seemed very much like a reskin to me.
I will play FH5 because of gamepass but this one doesnt look much different again except for another reskin.

I think it's a bit disingenuous to call it a reskin.

Well hopefully that is true. But 4 felt very much like the same game as 3 to me and from what I have seen of 5, it doesnt look much different.

It'll a similar roster of cars, same handling, same event types, same stunts, same big flashy showcase events etc just on a different map. Reskin is a bit harsh though considering the effort that goes in to creating a game like this. Can't really blame them for not reinventing the wheel each time.

It's usually the DLC that makes it stand out from the rest of them. Project Gotham would be a nice add-on.

The thing I missed in all of the Horizon games was the sense of progression, gradually unlocking faster cars and races by doing well at the lower ranks. Forza Motorsport (3 and 4 specifically) was perfect for that.
Yes, I *can* buy an old Volvo estate and optimize it for D class racing in Horizon if I want to, but it seems redundant when I can afford an S class supercar within the first couple of hours, or most likely already have one from a wheelspin or free DLC.
I'm spoilt by choice and need artificial limitations or I spaff it all in the first few hours and then get bored, basically.

In my experience A class was the sweetspot for FH4 in terms of drivable and quick. The s class stuff is quicker but not necessarily any more fun.

I pretty much used the TVR barn find for 90% of the game... It was pretty ridiculous with one of the top downloadable mod templates. Same with all of them really... I try out new cars up until a certain point where I get one that just feels right, then don't really bother changing again.

As Horizon got to the 3rd and 4th game I was mostly racing online, they put anti wall riding and bumping measures that are really good and lets people race like no other FH game.

I don’t think I’ve played 4 online (other than Forzathon stuff). They put the adventures behind those ranking things, which I didn’t have time for. I loved bombing around the south of France in a convoy between different races.
My favourite thing about the FH series is the lighting: they absolutely nail it. From the weak, watery light in the UKs autumn and spring, to the amazing Mediterranean sunsets.

I've said before how much the series has become a .5 release each time. also no real sense of progression, as some moaned and bitched they could not drive the best cars straight away. Sadly any comments about how much the series has slowed and become samey is met with "fuck offff, don't play it then" on other forums and the shit fest of EG comment section
the motorsport series has suffered the same thing, hoping the extra year has improved the quality

It reached a new audience with game pass and the simple flow of the single player, can't blame them for making it that way as its made it the premium forza experience for a mass market.

Surely you can see that the gameplay progression of starting in crap and slow cars might put players off? Or having to grind in lower divisions to be able to afford the high end car you want?
What I'd like to see is more of a carrot for using the lower ranked cars or not maxing class restrictions, whether it's increased rewards or maybe a secondary currency for cosmetic items. That's how I'd approach it, rather than restricting car choice.

Was that not always the premise? As a PC player late to the game I thought Horizion was pitched as for those who found Motorsport too hardcore.

Yep but the single player hasn't been the same since FM4, just here's loads of cars that race in real life motorsports brackets is what most the campaign is for the last 3 games.
FH throws you into the cover car at the start and you race against random, like a pick up, rally car and 90's sports cars in the same field, that's what I like still about racing online in FH and FM, you pick your best or fav car in a wide class and it's all over after a few mins.

Hoping they got rid of all the dress up avatar items on wheel spins, pain when you got 3 useless tat clothing items This. So frustrating when you win emotes or clothing instead of cars and money. I played 3 and 4 on pc and enjoyed them a lot, so I'll defo be playing 5.
